meteorologist rob mayeda has been comparing it to what we saw with napa, rob. good morning. >> good morning. we're seeing the quake and 4.1, 7:53 yesterday emping. compare that to the event in august last year. 6.0. felt over a much larger area. more energy released along the west napa fault zone. this as bob redell mentioned up toward the green valley fault extension. 4.1 earthquake. it is further away from the west napa fault zone, earthquake of the size we had last august. many times the earthquakes will transfer stress to nearby fault systems in the case of the green valley fault extension. the earthquake of that size, 4.1, relatively shallow quake. the strongest shaking felt right there throughout napa county but as far away as san francisco and the peninsula to the south and almost to sacramento out towards the east. depending on what type of soil you're on, sedimentary soil near the streams and creeks out there in napa county, that can sometimes intensify or amplify some of the shaking. so 4.1 earthquake can cause some small damage. if there's a weak str

." >> for a closer look at that seismic activity let's bring in rob mayeda. how far out did people hear the shaking? >> you might be surprised by how far that earthquake was felt, kris. right now we'll show you back to 7:53 yesterday evening. that is the location of the earthquake on the north end as bob redell mentioned of the green valley fault extension. if you compare that to the much longer and stronger napa quake of august 24th last year. that was a 6.0 right there on the west of napa fault zone of a earth quick of that particular size. even well built buildings could see rather significant damage. let alone the unrain forest masonry collapsed in downtown napa. 4.5 earthquake can be feld over a large area. maybe enough to knock over a few unsecured objects at homes. not really enough to cause wide spread damage. but of this particular quake it was felt as far south as san francisco in parts of the peninsula and as far east, almost out towards sacramento. so earlier within the first 24 hours of this particular earthquake there is still that small chance
