this one focused on republican senator ron johnson of wisconsin.s "target rich for democrats" but yet he still up in the polls. explain to us the dynamic. tell us more about this race. >> yeah. absolutely. so what we're seeing here is that ron johnson despite being republican's most vulnerable incumbent senator is inching ahead in the polls. and when i spoke to folks about why that's happening, i really heard that it's that democrats and barns given all the things that they want to touch on with johnson, his, you know, very conspiracial covid theories that he spread, his controversial remarks on january 6th and then the more typical republican chops on medicare and social security and taxes that between all of those things, they haven't really found one central sort of rallying message. and that's in contrast to johnson himself who has sort of chosen crime as his go-to talking point this cycle. he has been hammering that issue. focusing on barns' support for ending cash bail among another of other criminal justice proposals. and in leaning into tha

yamiche: what about the political risk for ron desantis?f he is seen as too friendly with president biden? >> this is what happened with chris christie. you have to walk this line. but still be clear that you do not like them. it is not a governor. but it is something he has done. he said this is a time for lives. that will probably continue. that is the best way to handle these situations. yamiche: talking about odd places to be, we have to point out that as a freshman congressman in 2013, ron desantis opposed a victims of hurricane sandy raid he has now had to reverse that idea. what do you make of this change in stance? >> all politics are local. it sounds like there was a time for pettiness. it was 2013. hurricane sandy came up right through new york. through the new england states. it was pretty devastating all the way around. we did not hear the same kind of we all need to work together. i think in some ways if he does show up down in florida, and i'm sure he will, and the two of them are together. it will be pretty there that one of

the race for new york governor gets a boost from ron desantis. desantis rallied supporters of lee zeldin in a rally in new york. >> the race is tightening. kathy hochul had a big lead in the summer but it's a contentious race as crime becomes a major focus of the campaign. we have details from gloria pazmino. >> boris, amara, lee zeldin relying on republican heavy hitters. ron desantis, a potential presidential contender in 2024 coming all the way out to long island to stump alongside lee zeldin who's been mounting a significant challenge to the incumbent governor kathy hochul. that race has become uncomfortably close in the last few weeks. lee zeldin is in single digits of the lead. and that has democrats very, very worried. now, we have seen a lot of enthusiasm. and the concern here along long island and the issue of public safety. that's a key part of the zeldin campaign. governor hochul spent the day in erie county. that's her back yard. she cast a ballot in buffalo. she was asked what she thought about desantis coming all the way to new york
