fox5's ronica cleary is live at a con fed ate statue or neer one in the district tonight . what's the latest. >>reporter: another update, it's in maryland actually. that roger tan i statue there's been controversy about that. it's on statehouse grounds. governor hogan went into this debate this afternoon putting out this afte call on the statehouse trust to basically remove that statue immediately and then as you said we're in front of this statue, across from the judiciary square metro stop. this is albert pike . they pointed out that this is on national park service land and that they would like to see it removed. this was the mayor's press secretary and they'd like to see basically public input used to determine which historical figure should replace this statue. i heard you both referencing it but let's take a look one more time at this footage from north carolina. the thing that really stands out to me is that this violent protest pulling down this confederate statue, this took place after the violence in charlottesville. they're kicking the stat eurks pulling it down

ronica cleary, fox5 local news. >> a big crowd is expected at what's being called an anti white supremacy rally in dallas this weekend. the rally is scheduled for saturday in front of city hall. organizers say it is the chance for the community to come together to call for the removal of monuments. they're stepping up safety precautions by asking members of the public to act as trained piece keepers at the rally. i know for a lot of people especially in the black community those monuments represent the slavery of their percentage the murder of their pevment i'm not trying to be a white night or anything, but if i can use my privilege to get in the way of somebody doing something, i feel kind of moral ly obligated to try. organizers will select the piece keepers themselves. they will not be armed but they will be trained to report any issues to police working the event. new tonight, us park police are look ing for the vanned als who spray painted some vulgar graffiti on the lincoln memorial . take a look. we've blurred out the curse words spray painted. the vandalism was discovered around

ronica cleary is live tonight with what they're doing to help out. >>reporter: we had the opportunity to actually speak with a local official with the american red cross. his name is art shaw much he's affiliated with the fire fair fact, v of the red cross. he helps with funtd raising. he was sent down last thursday in anticipation of hurricane harvey. he will be there for about a week and then he said he'll get swapped out and then possibly go back again depending on how bad the devastation is. he actually walked us through what they were doing this afternoon in anticipation of helping volunteers and those at shelters . take a walked us through on face time. as you you can see there are lots of red cross trucks, national guard trucks helping us transport volunteers and other trucks which are here to take supplies to the shelters that we've been setting up here in houston and all along the coast of texas. many volunteers for the red cross are typically the ones in the red vestses. it looks like we have some policemen here and the ones in the bright j

fox5 political reporter ronica cleary life at the white house with more.>>reporter: jim and sarah, you you know the president is taking time in arizona. wants to look ahead to what he'd like to see happen when it comes to immigration reform but he's going to miss this opportunity to really tout what he feels are accomplishments of his administration. take a look at some of these numbers from the white house that they are sharing today. they say they've had a 40 percent decrease in illegal border crossing attempts during the same period of time last year. the president has called for the hiring of 10,000 new ice officers and 12,000 new board per patrol agents. ice has removed over 2700 criminal gang members. that's more than through all of 2016 and of the course we're another only in august now. now, a new report out by mack clach i says that there are people inside the white house who are encouraging the president to protect dreamers under doca in exchange for funding for the wall, detention facilities, other immigration enforcement tools. when you conside
