wesh 2' s sally kidd is in washington, where the mayor is urging everyone to stay inside. sally: it has been snowing for seven hours straight. snow coming through. we are just a few blocks from the white house, and right here, we are getting about 10 inches or so of snow. that depends on where you are the national weather service says that we can expect snow to accumulate at about one or two inches an hour. with 20 or 30 inches -- 20 inches by the time this is over on sunday morning. we have some treacherous conditions out here. the snow plows are trying to keep up, trying to clear the roads as much as possible. it is kind of a losing battle. it is going to get difficult as the blizzard intensifies throughout the day. another factor is the snow here -- right now, we have some pretty dry snow. it is going to turn into some wet and heavy snow. that will do a number on power lines, and tree branches. we are expecting to see some widespread power outages. this will be an all day, into morning, kind of event. sally kidd. cara: the more the snow , cancellations pile up at orlando

sally kidd, wesh 2 news. angela: we have new information on a story we first brought you last night from volusia county. commissioners in daytona beach voted last night to move forward with a plan to help the local homeless population. the proposal is call the safe harbor project. the city has been slowly increasing. it' s an issue that' s angering business owners, who say crowds of homeless have been hanging outside their shops. under the safe harbor proposal, hurst elementary would be turned into transitional housing units. right now, an orlando man is facing some pretty serious charges for threatening a customer service rep. jeffrey lauer is accused of threatening to blow up the bright house offices in orlando. lauer apparently made the threat during a call to the company he made to complain about his service. the rep he was on the phone with hung up and called police. stewart: in just a matter of minutes, a convicted killer in florida will be put to death. oscar bolin will be executed at 6:00, this after

live in washington, sally kidd, >> it would never be before saturday afternoon if we're impacted. that's the window that we'll watch for us locally. in other parts of the country, a different story. >> the storm we're following is not the one showing this band of snow that's going through pennsylvania close to the nation's capitol. this is actually a very fast moving weak disturbance. moment. the one that's eventually going to become the impressive storm is the one that's throwing a little shield of snow close to the denver area. what happens to that is as it dives southeast. it's a chunk of energy in the atmosphere, it then interacts with moisture coming out of the gulf of mexico. blossom but as that moves northeastward it gets into the colder air in the northeast, then it becomes an especially raleigh, and a lot of snow in portions of virginia. a lot of virginia will have a big snow as it moves north. notice as it continues to move north it has a big easterly component to it so for us, this time we're near the northern edge. the easier forecast in a general sense is washington a
