so, looking now at san jose, our storm ranger mobile doppler truck, we have it parked in san jose to give us the best view. there is a look at it now in action as it continues to scan around. this gives us the highest detail and puts us ahead of what the other radars are picking up on. so, definitely a great tool. we are the only ones with this and it is also picking up on that rain right there eden veil where the coyote creek continues to roll farther to the south where that goes through. we are also seeing some very heavy rain around santa clara, approaching downtown san jose, and moving toward wayne as well as milpitas. so, expect this to continue to move in with some pockets of some heavy rain. the flooding on the coyote creek, it's in effect until further notice. so, all of these areas, seeing here shaded in green along the coyote creek, will be uppnder a close eye as we go through the rest of the day and we may see more of those water levels going up. we'll talk about how full the reservoirs are and some of the other warnings around the bay area coming up in about 6 or 7 minute

also around mountain view and san jose, 40 in san ramon and look at that, half moon bay the warm spot at 50. san mateo, doesn't that look nice. the fact it's dry outside as we look towards the west. still a slight chance but most of us dry today under a partly cloudy sky. frosty cold valleys the next few nights and the weekend through monday, next series of storms rollings in. here's a storm that's going to bring a chance to the north bay. isolated showers there and into the coast. we're going to go to the north bay during not necessarily the morning hours but look once we get past noon up in the north bay, chance of a scattered showers. once the sunsets, we'll take a look at the coast and that's where we'll have some storms roll from north to south and notice the snow elevation down around 4,000 feet so if it bumped into one of the higher mountains along the coast, could have a dusting of snow. we could have a better chance of that with the weekend storm which is now a 2 for sunday, moderate, little gustier for the breezes. >>> i want to take you back to our major issue this morning,

coyote creek stretches 30 miles from morgan hill where you're seeing now through san jose and then into the san francisco bay. along the hardest hit areas, 101 near cochran road in south san jose. all northbound lanes flooded at this hour. closer to downtown san jose, rescuers pulled hundreds of people from their homes as the rising waters fill the streets. this not a rural area. this is right through the bay area's biggest city. the same scenario in a different neighborhood. an apartment complex, evacuated earlier this afternoon. much of this happening right here spartan stadium. >> we have a team of reporters out covering the flooding. we begin with michelle roberts live in t. we've been people bringing out people in rafts and boats all day. >> reporter: the rescue effort took five hours today. you can see the destruction that the water has left behind. coyote creek is more than a block away from here so it's hard to believe that all of this water came pouring in this morning. you can see the umbrella in someone's back yard popping out of the water. and you can see debris, trash, oil

it was a long night here in san jose. here's a story from one man who got an early knock on the door. >> man, i got woke us early, at 1:30 in the morning, the cops came and knocked on the door to tell us to evacuate the apartments. and my wife got the dog and got out of there. i parked at the parking lot over there. >> reporter: did you sleep in the car? >> yeah, i slept in the car. >> reporter: long night. he and his wife and two dogs, they plan to head to san francisco. they're now going to go stay with their daughter. they've had enough of this and there's no word of when this evacuation order will be lifted and from the looks of things, look at this live picture, water is still a problem here. this is 28th and santa clara. you can see they have shut down that section of 28th over there, so police have ordered people to leave but it's also difficult to get around here to move around, because of different street closures, of course, highway 101 shut down in both directions, so problems persist all over the place here. p

dozens of homes are flooded in san jose. firefighters are busy rescuing all the stranded residents by raft, however they can. let's get back to abc 7 news reporter david louie live on the ground at the scene. david? >> reporter: the hard-working san jose fire department is absolutely putting all their personnel available into this rescue operation. norrendale avenue is right behind us and you can see the water is rising. there is a mailbox at the corner. that is a five-foot-high fence and the water line is right to the top of that fence. it's even deeper a few blocks to the east where the coyote creek runs through this neighborhood, so it's quite serious. we also have that station wagon with the rear window down where the water is getting ready to breach that vehicle and we're going to find out soon whether that vehicle can float or not in all this floodwater. we have mitch madlow here. you have so many people here. you have to be stretched. >> yes, the department is stretched right now. we have everyone working overtime to

san jose's mayor just announced the 14,000 san jose residents under mandatory evacuations should not expect to go home today. this as officials hold a news conference with the latest on historic flooding from coyote creek. thanks for joining us. i'm kristin zee. t the investigation into the how and why is under way. the news conference had a lot of new information, david. >> reporter: absolutely, kristin. we're standing on east brewer street where they just had a briefing for us. we're learning that the city of san jose is in high gear today trying to map out plans as to when and if they can open up evacuation areas and whether it will be safe for people to go back into their homes, even for a brief moment to grab medications and other valuables. an update on the numbers, 36,000 people are impacted. 3300 people stayed overnight at two emergency shelters. mandatory evacuation orders do remain in effect of three years of san jose. the william corridor where i'm reporting, which includes brooklyn terrace. a second area is oak hill road and this area where massive rescues were done by bo

they are creating a lot of problems for folks in downtown san jose, a lot of of homes and businesses are being flooded and people being moved. bob redell is in san fernando right now. are you able to talk to anyone? >> reporter: well, we're here at the intersection of east san fernando and south 28th street. this pepper is doing something that the police do not want them to do, that is driving through water that you don't know how deep it is is. it looks like they will make it through. somebody came through about five minutes ago. they tried to get through here. but the water for their car was too deep and they had to turn around. san jose police are posted at different intersections throughout the evacuation areas. we heard them moments ago telling people to stop, turn around. this area, as you can see, is flooded. this is a mandatory evacuation area that the city put out four hours ago. this is north of 280, south of 101. were an area mostly on the eastern side of coyote creek. you can see the water is coming close to some people's homes. you can see san jose pd is posted throughout

san jose, 55 degrees. for the east bay, not too much of a difference in the temperatures. mid 50s. over to heyward. the peninsula, wind northwest at 8. san francisco, 53 and a little warmer in the marina at 55. north bay, 52 in mill valley and 57 in napa. we have a chance of rainfall this weekend. it does not appear as the storm systems will have the opportunity to pick up the amount of moisture we have been dealing with with the past several storms. the reason is the storms are dropping from the north. that's a drier direction because there's not as much moisture for it to pick up. the atmospheric river remains well off towards the south. we will have the chance of rainfall. but it's not going to be a lot. for saturday, scattered rainfall in the forecast. by sunday, possibly a shower. a spotty shower monday as well. for the three-day total, i'm coming in with a quarter of an inch. there's the better forecast for us. possibly from next tuesday -- this is the best news ever -- maybe into march 9th, we are looking at a dry trend. from next tuesday all the way through march the 9th. i'
