we visited chaco's restaurant in san jose. damian: it's just before the lunch hour n san jose.customers file in, the owner has to advise them prices went up on the first of the year. male: the reason why it's coming up is 'cause it's getting passed on for the increase in minimum wage. damian: the owner says the minimum wage went up $3 in the last two years in san jose, so he felt forced to raise prices and cut the hours for some employees. other restaurants are adding a surcharge instead. at ike's sandwich shop, the surcharge is optional, meaning you can opt out when you order. you opt out now? male: yeah, definitely, no surcharge. damian: there was talk of implementing a surcharge areawide in the downtown district, but the merchants haven't agreed to it yet. male: most san joseans that i talked to are willing to pay another quarter or 50 cents for their burger to ensure that the people who have prepared that food for us can afford to live here and not on the street. male: it's good for the-- you know, small people. damian: even if you have to pay more for your meal? male: yeah

to north san jose. we are told that the ups truck possibly being driven by the suspect ran over a spike strip and was disabled at that point. some blown tires, the vehicle came to a stop. for a long period of time it appeared there was a standoff. there might have been a driver and a female assistant. we are not exactly sure what the female's role was in all of this. we are told that they both were let out or somehow escaped from the ups truck and it was just left with the driver. some of our other reporting on the scene indicated that they could see the driver moving around inside that ups vehicle until just a few minutes ago, when things really started escalating here. reports that the suspect may or may not be down, but definitely an escalation out here on the streets of san jose. back to you.>> stay there at the scene. we are seeing now live pictures from chopper 5. they have centered on an area you can see lit up by flashlight. we believe that suspect is incapacitated, is down, exited the hijacked,
