this house was on sausalito boulevard. >> so initially police got a call from 434 sausalito boulevard street above crescent avenue. the hill goes down into crescent avenue. that home on sausalito boulevard essentially slid down on to crescent avenue near crescent avenue and main if you're familiar with the area. the video that we had of damage and where amy was, that area is crescent avenuement so, again, the debris anded destruction that we see is on crescent avenue. that's why you have parts of crescent avenue closed. the home itself above that on sausalito boulevard. >> seeing that google earth image, you can see why there's a concern about the neighbors. they are densely packed in there. everyone wants a view. one of the con kwenss is when it gets really wet, there's a possibility that the homes could tumble. that's exactly what happened this morning. >> absolutely. a lot of the homes, i was going to say to note that a lot of the homes protrude from the hillside. so perhaps that adding to, as you said, they want that view. but it makes it a little unstable. especially right there

we want to go back to sausalito.y light rain that's going to be around for a few hours is there. as we look offshore, there's more coming. now the south bay, the santa cruz mountains are going to take the bulk of this moisture as the south bay will get rain shadowed. that's why you're seeing the guadalupe river start to drop and already in its height. here's a look at how much rain we've had so far and we go from 4.65 inches in novato to nearly 8 and a quarter and that's out of this storm so far. here's the newest rain potential. we're resetting the clock at 8:00. so about 25 minutes ago. there you go, up until noon, we got a chance of another quarter to a third of an inch and during the evening hours, we'll add a little bit more rain and we'll get up to four tenths to a half of an inch. this will run off, but it won't runoff like the rain we've had the past 24 hours. we're not going to see that happen again. >> that's a relief, mike. let's get back to that breaking news in sausalito. on the left-hand side you see vi

pete suratos live in sausalito. but first meteorologist kari hall with the latest. >> we are tracking the atmospheric river moving into the north bay with sonoma and napa county. it is starting to make a southward trek and the rainfall rates half of an inch of rain per hour and pouring heavily in the spots like sonoma and napa in the next few minutes. with the rounds of heavy rain we will have gusty rains and more of that where it came from watching the system working into the bay area going into the next couple of days. so here we are 1:00 this afternoon. we could possibly see some of that moving into the peninsula and it's still kind of missing out on the south bay for the most part. moving into the east bay with some rounds of rain in time for the evening commute and catching waves of this throu overnight hours as well as tomorrow and still doesn't lock like it lets up until about wednesday morning when the system pushing south of the bay area. so we do have quite a while longer to deal with the rain. the soggy w

her address was 408 sausalito boulevard. she was at the very top of the canyon and her home slid down with a mudslide that was 75 to 150 feet wide. she was pinned in debris in her home, encased in mud so we used some "extra" -- extrication equipment for the rescue. >> we're not far from 408 sausalito billion dollar but we can't go further. there's two issues, a gas leak because you can imagine utilities ripped from the foundation and a rick of more homes sliding. that captain you heard from southern marin fire they counted six mommies still at risk of sliding down the hill. they performed evacuations here and downstream, down the ravine where there could be a risk of people getting trampled by this debris if it were to come down. one of the issues right now, they don't have shore engineers out right now. they will get them out once the sun comes up so they can go up the street from here to see the situation with the homes. again, at least two homes went down. they don't have an exact count. they did check the homes. they don

david has lived in sausalito and was evacuated in the last slide. he is less concerned about this storm. >> i am feeling okay about it. i don't think we are in quite the same level of moisture in the hills that we were a few weeks ago. it was supersaturated and then a big storm came. we've had a few days for things to drain out. i don't think we are quite in as much danger. >> reporter: hand his neighbors had been looking at topographic maps assessing risk on the hillside. >> it is very specific to where you are. again, i just don't feel that where i am right here, it is only a few hundred yards down the road. i don't take we are in a tremendous amount of risk. >> reporter: in san anselmo, winter lindsay has a sump pump on his property. he thinks this storm will leave him unscathed. >> i am optimistic. the weatherman always predicts the worst and sometimes it comes out the best. he says there will be rain and sometimes there are rainbows. we do not know what it is going to be like tonight and tomorrow. >> reporter: of course, as you can hear people

emily turner is in sausalito. >> reporter: and the rain is falling. i'm going to hop out of the way so you can see what's going on behind me which is basically not much. the mudslide in sausalito was just so severe. over the weekend there were crews with the u.s. geological survey and they were on the hillside using laser technology to measure the stability of the ground and spotting future risk. there's a lot of rain headed this direction. sandbags were stacked up to stop further movement of the earth. but with five to eight to more inches of rain expected to dump between here and wednesday, many folks are worried about a repeat of the slide. and they are hoping that the city has taken proper precautions to keep people out of harm's way. >> i know it's deep and there's obviously a lot of movement. but we haven't had water in this long. it's a lot. >>> and one of the other concerns this morning is flooding. with all of the rain headed our direction that's already begun, there's concern that all of the saturated ground is going to push that water or th

i'm zooming down on sausalito. let me click on the storm report. we had a debris flow earlier that law enforcement said they needed emergency road closure at 101 and rodeo avenue off-ramp, so that was one of the issues we had earlier today, earlier this morning i should say. as we head up 101, let me click on this one. we've had reports of flooding in korda madeira along 101. as we head farther north we've had reports of flooding. this flooding occurred in larkspur 101 across all lanes northbound. a lot of standing water in those areas, so you've got to watch out for that as the rain has been nonstop in the north bay. here we are looking at 680 and 780, vallejo, a lot of rain falling and standing water on the bridges. as we head to the eastern side of the bay bridge, just north of the toll plaza, you can see at emeryville and heading to the toll plaza from treasure island is a heavy cell right there. we've got another one that's arcing its way from san francisco to brisbane and along 101 as you head north from south san francisco. av rnigex. >>okay

in the neighborhood that surrounds what sausalito residents call hurricane goals. the sound of wind whipping is normal. >> it gets 40 to 70 miles per hour through here. remake the sounds early this morning, however, were enough to wake people out of the dead sleep. and raise here on the backs of next. >> it sounded like thunder, but when i opened the window, and smelled pine, because trees have gone down here before, i knew that at least trees had gone down, but i couldn't see the house because it was too dark. remake it sounded like a big explosion. >> by the time i had looked out my bedroom window, obviously it had already come down to the bottom of the hill, there was no commotion after that. remake in an instant, a hillside gave way under the crushing weight of too much rain. sending mud and one of the many homes precariously perched on the hills of sausalito sailing to the bottom of the goals. the rubble at the bottom is the home of susan gordon, who wrote the pile all the way down and lived to tell the tale. nikki perry knows susan through the women's club. >
