glenn "hurricane" schwartz is watching this major winter storm and it keeps changing, right, glenn? >> the totals will change depending on whether we get snow or rain, whoever gets all snow, you're getting at least a foot out of this. this is the cape may wind, blowing that way, that's the land breeze, it's going to end up coming the opposite way, and it's going to be coming the opposite way hard. to the north, all snow, at least 10 inches, power outages, i-95 corridor, heavy snow, changing to some sleet and rain. that's the main question in the forecast here. and mostly rain with 50 to 60-plus-mile-per-hour. right now it's plenty cold enough to snow. it feels like it's in the teens to low 20s. unlike what we got before, right now is ground is cold so the snow that's coming is going to stick. we have some moisture in a strong jet stream down to the south. we have this upper air system that's creating the snow out in the west, those two are going to combine to create this one monster storm. it comes up from the southwest, the snow in washington, baltimore, travel all over the east is

we do have first alert neighborhood weather chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz tracking the changes. after the weekend we're getting used to these changes, glenn. >> and starting to get used to the clouds too. we had quite a bit of it yesterday, we got it today and we're going to have it tomorrow too. it's 57 degrees in philadelphia now only 52 degrees in allentown but look to the south. 71 in dover, 70 in mill vil, 70 atlantic city, 70 in wildwood. that temperature 24 degrees warmer in dover and vineland than it was at this time yesterday, atlantic city 27 degrees warmer, but in allentown, it's only 9 degrees warmer than it was yesterday. the afternoon high, saturday 77, sunday 45. that's one of the biggest drops in march temperatures that we have ever seen and then it's going to be going up over the next couple of days, but not to these kinds of levels in southern delaware, 72 in georgetown, 74 in millsboro and in milton, 75 in lewes delaware and long neck. delaware's going to stay warm tomorrow, other places will not and that means delaware has the best chance of getting

. >> glenn "hurricane" schwartz is has more on what is coming to your neighborhood. >> the first thing is the fog that is going to be developing as we go through the night and we're also setting up for a chilly, cloudy day, you can see the winds now have shifted. we had a southwest wind to warm us up this afternoon. now the northeast wind is in. and that means it's going to stay cooler and fairly cloudy. got up to 62 today after the 45 yesterday which was after the 77 on saturday. this is one of the biggest temperature drops that we have seen in one day. nothing on radar close by right but you don't have to go too far to the west. the first rains coming into pennsylvania now. a little bit in washington but a lot more out by west virginia. that will be coming in during the day tomorrow. could get showers even first thing. a lot of clouds during the day prevent it from getting warmer. the lehigh valley especially with the cooler weather barely getting to 60 in the lehigh valley and that is the symbol for fog in the morning. more on the timing of the rain as we go through tomorrow coming

let's go to glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> it doesn't feel like spring out there anymore at all. >>> absolutely. but it's a great day for wind energy. these are the wind turbines at the linc. you can see the cameras shaking and spinning hard because the wind has been howling. it's been gusting over 40 miles an hour during the day. the temperatures themselves are pretty low. the average high this time of the year is in the mid-50s. here we are at 34 in allentown and trenton, 36 degrees. in coatsville, it feels like it is only 22 in allentown and trenton. 24 in coatsville. 25 degrees in mount holly. that is plenty cold. and look at the wind, gusting 36 miles an hour in philadelphia, millville and atlantic city. 38 in mount holly. but that is down a little bit from what we saw just a couple of hours ago. so that trend will continue during the night. you'll notice the feels-like temperature down through the teens, maybe even some single digits in allentown. later this evening, mid-teens in philadelphia. but the wind will diminish later tonight. and so the feels-like temperature tomorrow

let's bring in meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. something wrong with the teleprompter. snow, glenn? >> it's march. first half of march. and we get snow in march. 10 out of the last 16 years we've had snow in march. it's not unusual at all. flags blowing in warm air tonight, temperatures in the 40s just about everywhere. and we have rain moving in. and yes, just rain. and it's mostly for our pennsylvania counties and central new jersey the way it's going pretty much straight west to east. most of it is on the light side, but look at that thing. a line of severe thunderstorms approaching illinois. here's what this first area is going to do. right for the morning rush. going to be damp. especially again from philadelphia north. it's not going to last all morning let alone all day. a lot of clouds tomorrow. any breaks of sunshine will allow temperatures to go into the 60s except at the shore. and the next area starts to come in. that's tomorrow night. that line of thunderstorms by tomorrow in the middle of the night may not be that strong. but we get another shot at some ra

nbc 10 chief meteorologist glenn schwartz is breaking it down neighborhood by neighborhood.here's going to be a tremendous variation of weather from the coastal neighborhoods to the inland neighborhoods. this is cape may, the flag is not moving very much. 24 hours from now, way different story. north and west of philadelphia, all snow, at least a foot with power outages likely. in the i-95 corridor, heavy snow, the change to sleet and rain is the question mark. if you don't see the changeover, they're getting a foot or more also. southern delaware and jersey shore, mostly rain, gusts 50 to 60 miles an hour or even more. right now, it is plenty cold. it's in the 20s. it's definitely cold enough to snow and when the snow starts tomorrow night, it's going to stick immediately on untreated surfaces, but during the day tomorrow, we're fine. it's just a cold, dry day. even the afternoon rush hour, you don't have to worry about any kind of trip home tomorrow. unless you're staying out real late. even delaware, jersey shore, places to get the precipitation fastest come monday night.

. >> first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz has a weekend warm up to tell us about in his most accurate first alert neighborhood forecast. >> warmer weather starting tomorrow? >> yeah, and today of course was a little bit warmer than yesterday and with less wind. it's certainly felt a good bit warmer. we had a lot of sunshine today. we're starting to see some clouds coming from the western sky. and that's a sign of things to come. we're not going to be seeing a whole lot of sunshine over this weekend. but it is going to be considerably warmer by saturday. temperatures in the low to mid40s across the entire area. 32 in mount pocono. and it feels like it's in the 30s. except for the 26 in mount pocono. that's pretty cold for this time of year where the average high is in the mid 50s. we're going to be right in that ballpark tomorrow. not a real cold start, 33 degrees. we're in the 20s in many areas this morning. teens in some of the suburbs. so this is a milder start. and a milder finish. mostly dry day. but a lot more clouds. tell you more about that big warmup and t

glenn "hurricane" schwartz is joining us live with more. >> we did get a bit of a break late, very late in the day. you can see the sundown on center city but the fog is going to redevelop, get thicker and it does look like it's going to be pretty dense for the morning rush for at least a portion of the area. a lot of the area most likely. we're now up to 61 degrees in philadelphia, 58 in allentown and we're down a little bit in dover and south jersey. these areas were in the 70s just an hour ago. and look at the difference from 24 hours. vineland 25 degrees warmer than it was this time yesterday. coatesville 22 degrees warmer, philadelphia 17 degrees warmer. so we have had quite a change. saturday down to sunday was an incredible drop and now we're on our way back up, but also some thunderstorms in the forecast. the timing of that plus more on the fog coming up. >> cleanup efforts are underway in wilmington after a fast moving fire destroyed half of downtown block over the weekend. this as officials search for what touched off the blaze. this video of the fire early sunday on market st

. >> chief meteorologist glen hurricane schwartz will get it live. that's what's headed our way. >> absolutely, and we can show you that one radar and it's going to be quite a storm. there is a blizzard warning for all counties north and west of philadelphia. it's a pretty rare thing in this part of the country. only the second in the last 12 years. what you need is winds of over 35 miles an hour and visibility reduced to a quarter mile less of at least three hours, and that combination rarely happens. it is expected to happen now. look at the heavy snow right over washington now and about to get heavier. our snow is getting heavier. the darker the blue, the heavier the snow. even south jersey getting into the action. tremendous amounts of moisture farther to the south. so we're just getting started with this thing. so the snow gets heavier by 3:00 a.m. 3:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., that's the heaviest snow. the most hazardous travel, the time to stay off the roads especial especially. on tuesday afternoon, the snow gradually tapers off. on wednesday morn

let's begin with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz with the timing of the storm hour by hour. glenn? >>> what i want you to do is take a look at this radar. and you can see the amount of moisture that is around. it is just a huge area that is covering us. and it is going to be affecting us for a good bit of the night tonight and into the day tomorrow. the blizzard warning has been issued and it covers all the pennsylvania counties north of philadelphia. and there's a strict definition for a blizzard. you don't just use that term. it's got to be 35-mile-an-hour winds in a particular spot, quarter mile visibility or less, and both of those have to be for three hours or more together. there's the radar. you can see how close some of that snow is on radar. it's not reaching the ground yet, but it really gives you an idea of the atmosphere that is moistening up. that's a thousand miles worth of moisture headed this way. the snow starts from south to north, 9:00 to 10:00. 3:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., that's the core of the storm. that's the most dangerous part of this storm. so th

let's go to chief meteorologist len glen "hurricane" schwartz.ou're concerned about damage from these storms. >> i think the wind gusting will be very strong, so you'll want to bring in any outdoor furniture, trash cans, things that might get blown around in that wind and cause further damage. the streets are wet from an area of rain that's been with us for quite a while. there's more rain moving in during the night tonight. it had nothing to do with the system producing the severe weather in the midwest. got a couple of lines of thunderstorms. both producing severe weather. these are already tornado reports. most of them in northern illinois. also other reports of wind damage going into michigan. unfortunately, there have been some fatalities tonight. here's the first area coming in tomorrow morning. this, again, is not the main system, though we could get some briefly heavy rain and thunderstorms in the morning in a few spots. this is that line, and it gets to western portions of our area around 3:00. looks like in the philadelphia area, 4:00 f

glenn "hurricane" schwartz is with us tonight. >> another warm-up on the way, glenn and some rain. >> a little bit of rain later on tonight and perhaps for the morning rush first thing. afternoon rush not doing so well here. i-95 going south. that's about as much traffic as i've seen on there in a long time. certainly with good weather to see that much traffic is pretty unusual. it's 50 degrees in philadelphia, mt. holly, in allentown. 44 in wilmington, 43 in dover. we've got winds coming in off those cool delaware bay waters and the atlantic ocean and that's why the closer to the beaches you are the colder it is during the day today. we don't see any precipitation over the area now but this light rain's getting closer, coming across washington, d.c. area and i'll emphasize the word light because you don't even see any yellows in there indicating moderate rain. but as we go through the night tonight and into tomorrow morning we see some of that light rain moving in so you'll need the umbrellas again especially north and west of philadelphia. you may need to deal with snow by the weeke

jeremy schwartz joins us now to discuss that. and you make the point, jeremy, first of all, welcome. there are really two different types of dividend stocks. investors have to know the difference between the two. >> thanks for having me. certainly there is -- i call it the two baskets of stocks. one is there is a ones that are slower growing, high yielding, utility stocks. there is what you call bond proxies when interest rates go up. they face more pressure. more competition from higher interest rates. you have stocks that can grow dividends faster over time. there are smaller current yields. i think that is really where i think valuation becomes everyone looking for yield, users still historically low. i think the valuations are actually more attractive today on the stocks that can grow dividends faster over time. >> so not the sort of bond proxy that's you might find in telecom maybe energy, maybe utilities, correct? >>> yes. everybody is flocking to the stocks. i think the dividend growth stocks, maybe technology stocks, heal

. >> no, glenn "hurricane" schwartz tracking the pattern in your most accurate forecast. around for a while? >> we have a cold pattern that's going to last for at least another week getng some minor breaks, let's put it thatt the sunshine. it's still windy out there. the flag is still blowing pretty hard. and the temperatures, they're in the 30s, despite that sunshine. 38 in philadelphia. 36 in potts town. 37 in wilmington. hardly any spot has gotten to 40. the average high is 53. so today's 38 is a little bit higher than the last couple. and we're going to go up a little bit friday and saturday. that's still well shy of that 53 degrees. the wind on top of that, this is the sustained wind which is pretty impressive. 25 at tom's river. dover air force base. wilmington. 21 miles an hour in philadelphia. and of course, there have been higher gusts than that. and as we go through the night tonight, of course, the temperature's going down with the clear skies. it will go down some more and at least the wind will be diminishing. it will still feel like it's in the teens by tomo

glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking this winter storm.azy. >> yeah, may be hard to believe but like i said earlier, it's going to happen. i'm not making this stuff up. there it is, snowing in the poconos already. that's the first sign of things to come. it's 31 degrees there. still in the 40s, allentown, reading, lancaster, pottstown, but it was in the 60s a few hours ago. the temperature is dropping. it's got a ways to go, though. it's still rain in state college, but snow right behind it. it's not exactly a typical storm here. it's not circular or anything. and it does not have a great potential, but it's just the timing of this that is difficult here. 6:00 a.m., the latest computer models do not have it down into bucks, montgomery or chester counties, by 6:00 a.m. we're talking later in the morning rush, but allentown, reading getting snow and allentown's even below freezing. by 8:00, the snow into philly still above freezing, though. the darker blue indicating heavier snow. 9:00 a.m., getting it but still above freezing. and the roads

chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz tracking the mild start this season in your most accurateures did go up today to right around average for this time of the year and we started off with sunshine but look at this picture now. the clouds really taking over, but not a whole lot of a threat of rain. this is the radar and satellite. if there was anything on the radar it would show up, probably as green. the lighter colors, but we don't even have that. the closest rain is in ohio. this area was weakening. this area down towards cincinnati, that's pretty strong but not headed in this direction. right now we're seeing temperatures in the 50s but it is 45 in reading, 47 in allentown, 48 in lancaster and pottstown. 38 in mount pocono so some places are still getting that bit of a chill, but they're all going to warm up as we go into the day tomorrow. so we were 42 for the high ton saturday, 50 sunday, 54 today, 58 tomorrow and then the plunge, 20 degrees with the temperature and it's going to be windy on wednesday too. so it'll feel probably more like 38, 39 degrees. that will be like

glenn "hurricane" schwartz has kept his eye on this patch of green for the past two days. what does it look like out there right now, glenn? >> it's definitely going to be a wet night. the roads are dry right now throughout the area and that will be the case for the next at least couple of hours in most of the region. the exception is places like coatesville and reading and burks county getting some of the rain within the hour. wilmington, 66, along philadelphia, 68 in dover, so it is incredibly mild out there. and the rain continues to get closer. as you can see most of it's on the lighter side but as we go into berks county, there's reading and you can see that the rain is closing in just west of burnville and it's moving to the east and there will be periods of rain overnight tonight. then we're watching this line moving to the east, and that will be moving through late tonight and that will be the end of it all. we've got rain across a good bit of the area. there's that last line racing through in the middle of the night and it's gone by morning. the next issue we have
