meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here now. how is the weather shaping up.t. >> kind of warm. kind of humid. as you can see across the area, a fair amount of sunshine. it's 86 in philadelphia now. temperatures only dropping into the low 80s by 8:00. not a lot of wind either. so it could certainly be worse. it would be worse if you're having a game tomorrow. 91 at graduate hospital. >> but there's plenty of moisture and storms back to the west. some of that is headed this way. that's why we have issued a first alert for tomorrow for the entire area. the whole action gets started early in the afternoon. berks, lehigh valley, and ends about 11:00 tomorrow night towards the shore with tropical downpours. we have had too much rain. here we go tomorrow. lock at that nasty line. the l line intensities. we're getting hot and humid. that could be some severe weather right there. there's 8:00. the latest model. showing it getting near the shore. and then the weekend is looking pretty good. everybody should be get. ing some showers and storms. we're not expecting any s

glenn "hurricane" schwartz has a look at the first alert forecast. >> we won't see severe weather and majority of our area should stay dry. this is one place that is likely to see some showers later but no threat now. this is just puffy fair weather cumulus cloud. delaware is an area that has been hit hard. weather conditions look good. temperatures are in the upper i'lls. 88 in philadelphia. 86 in wilmington. 88 in trenton but the humidity is still pretty hot. feels like 92 in wilmington. 90 in coatesville. 91 in vineland. the ocean temperature a warm 76. well, up near 89 today, but look at these temperatures over the weekend. way below average, even though we're expecting sunshine. what about the showers? well berks county had some. they are gone. lehigh valley they are gone. few in the poconos right now and they are moving up to the north towards new york state. at the moment we're doing okay. we don't need any more rain. it's and about really wet period here. but, there is a possibility, as we to towards daybreak, 5:00, 6:00 a.m. for a shower or thunderstorm in philadelphia area.

schwartz. >> well, yes, it will be ending, but it is the latest ending at the jersey shore. there were some surfers out tlsh, there and people sitting there in the non-sun and the rain just enjoying the ocean. you can see that there is plenty of it right along the beaches, and very little left in pennsylvania, but we still have some fairly heavy rain south of dover and going into the cumberland county, and in new jersey which is not needing anymore rain for what we have had in the last couple of weeks. this is is the way it is going to look, and in about an hour or so, the last of the rain right at the shore and it is the delaware beaches, and the skies clearing and at least partly clearing, and much of the area. b but it is going to set us up for fog overnight, and that is what these clouds are as we are going through the night. going to be affecting the morning rush tomorrow. temperatures in the 70s right now, but we will be close to 90 tomorrow. we will see how long the hot weather lasts and when the rain is coming back in a few minutes. >> here is a look at some the stor

let's begin our team coverage with glenn "hurricane" schwartz tracking where the worst of the rain is right now. >> as you saw right at the shore margate a pretty nasty shot here. you can see where the heavy rain is. most of it is moving offshore and is spinning a little bit out there. this area of low pressure and a front that goes back into southern delaware. so this area is kind of stalled. this is just light rain across much of the philadelphia area itself. but at the shore it's a different story. finally getting a little bit better conditions in cape may but in atlantic city and margate and ventnor and long port down to ocean city that is a pretty heavy rain there. tapering off already. long beach island just getting into the heavier rain. this is not darker red so it is not the heaviest of the rain like we have seen in other parts of our area. these are the areas in the red that have had the most rain. we have flash flood warnings in effect. this is until 6:00 for the area just south of dover and another one until 5:15 in cumberland county in new jersey. those areas have been hi

let's get our first alert forecast from glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> yeah. first comes the rain and then comes the heat. it will take a little while for that heat to come in. it is mostly on the light side right now coming into philadelphia and delaware and chester county. lancaster getting it right now. there's more back to the west and that is what is coming in over the next 24 hours. you can see that area. it's moving right in this direction. we are going have clouds all day. going to keep the temperature down and then we have waves of rain and showers moving through. here we go. hour after hour there's something on the radar. occasionally a thunderstorm pops up. it's kind of a wet day. as we go into tomorrow night we start to clear out. that sets us up for the heat and humidity for wednesday. we are not seeing the showers or thunderstorms at that point. we are seeing the heat and humidity probably getting up to 90 degrees. of course one of the forecasts we are looking forward to is next monday for the eclipse. right now we are kind of in between weather

. >>> let's go to glenn "hurricane" schwartz who is timing out this evening's forecast for us. >> it's looking pretty nice for this evening. later tonight and first thing in the morning a different story. look how blue that sky is in easton, pa. temperature 85 in philadelphia, 87 in allentown. ocean temperature 75 degrees which is on the warm side. radar and slight shows the showers are pretty much disappeared from our area even the poconos not in the vicinity, one tiny shower in the lehigh valley just west of allentown. but overnight we've got a cold front that's moving in and it's not going to affect us by 11:00 but in the middle of the night there could be some thunderstorms coming through. we'll see when that moves out and have the details for the weekend coming up in a few minutes. >>> thousands of music fans in bethlehem are hoping for no storms tonight. music fest kicked off an hour ago. bands are on the stage right now. music fest runs ten days and organizers are expecting more than a million people to pass through. nbc 10's steven fischer is liver at music fest where the crowd

meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz with e details on some storms that have popped up. what are you tracking? >> a lot of these storms are up in the lehigh valley and in the pocono mountains. we have one that is actually not moving. this is the sea breeze front. the winds from the ocean come in and this moves in this direction. so this particular storm that's already pretty strong and not move iing could potentially get little bigger. as you can see this is an hour of movement and it hasn't moved. it's gotten a little stronger. there's 1 to 2 inches of rain per hour. so there could be some localized flooding there. and again in the philadelphia area, we also have a pretty heavy cell just south of allentown. that's not moving very much either. the storms are not moving much. this is south of salisbury. there's allentown. it's in the south end of allentown and not moving in any particular direction. we do have some flood advisories for parts of upper bucks, lehigh, north hamp top counties and also for this storm in the philadelphia area. parts of burlington, camden and ph

let's bring in glenn "hurricane" schwartz tracking the storm's movements. >> and the center of the storm has gone back out over the gulf of mexico and you can see there is just a tremendous amount of rain still associated with this system. and this is the center of it. pretty clearly out in the gulf this is the low pressure center at the surface but we have the thunderstorms closer to the coast. so it's not quite symmetrical yet. if it does have the center at the surface right underneath this would become a new eye wall and you can see even more development of the rain. look at the gigantic area of rain. if you take the track of the storm in this direction and you see the heavy rain on this side all the time while it's traveling up here you are still going to be in the heavy rain area. so they are not close to getting out of this thing. the wind has increased to 45 miles per hour. it's only moving about three miles per hour. it's going to take quite a while. there is tomorrow afternoon and it's still pretty close to where it is now. there it is wednesday and then finally thursday. so it

. >> let's begin with meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz with where the heaviest of the rain is on that active radar behind you. >> it's pretty colorful. some of the heaviest rain is right over the philadelphia area and into the lower bucks and mercer county. we have just seen an increase. this is just over the past hour. so there was green. and now all of a sudden it is getting heavier. we see moisture coming from. different directions. you can see some coming in off the ocean. things are converging right over our area. that's what's keeping it raining. now we sent storm ranger 10 into the heart of the rain. there we are in the lewis, delaware, and it's getting details on where the heaviest rain is. we sent it down to delaware because this is the area where we expect the most rain. and can see the detail over duey beach and we'll continue to follow that throughout the afternoon. don't want it to get stuck in any one particular area. now this area of rain is kind of separated from the low pressure center, which is right down here off the north carolina coast. that in itself is g

even thunderstorms in parts of the area. >> let's get the latest from glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >>iming and the storms are on top of us right at this time of day when it's the hottest and most humid. they hold together. today we may have an advantage with the timing. because it's coming later. but the area is getting it first. lehigh valley and seuburbs especially, that's from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. we put the first alert out for those areas 24 hours ago. and now there's a severe thunderstorm watch for pretty much that area until midnight tonight. it does not include philadelphia or delaware counties. includes every other county in pennsylvania. and as you can see, the leading edge of the showers are way west of harrisburg. and even though the showers are moving east fast, this first line is weakening. that's in the middle of the night. these areas in the orange are severe thunderstorm warnings. if you take this leading edge, it's moving east. it's still enough to get to reading until after 7:00 tonight. so that's why there isn't much of a threat for a couple hours at least. so the

glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here to tell us more. >> it's going to get better because you can see the clouds out there. they are going to be gone. and so we're going to have comfort and sunshine for the next couple days. this is easton. we're seeing a little billionth of blue in the sky, but still a fair amount of cloud cover. and also in delaware, similar type of. picture, similar type of clouds. you can see that on the radar and satellite. closest rain is way offshore. but these are high level clouds just raising up from the southwest. blocking the sun a little bit. fair weather cumulus clouds, it's a beautiful picture. but the drier air continues to feed into the region. 78 degrees in philadelphia, but it's 80 in wilmington and northeast philly and millville. the ocean temperature is is 73 degrees. it's going to be a a beautiful night as we clear out. temperature nice and comfortable. you need the air conditioners tonight or tomorrow night. or the night after that. as you can see into the 50s in some of the suburbs and the lehigh valley. by morning, not a cloud in the sky. that set

let's bring in meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. how long is the rain sticking around?>> areas north and west of philly, it's already tapering off. it's going to take much of the night before it ends here. this is cape may. it's still really choppy out there. really wet and windy, really nasty. at philly international, it's wet. may have some more delays. check with your airline before you head out. it's still raining all across philadelphia. but look at lehigh valley. it's dry up there. it's heavier rain in delaware and south jersey than anywhere else. that's why we had the first alert down there. you can see the drying across a good bit of pennsylvania. we're the last ones to dry out in philly. not too much of the night. here's the storm ranger 10 showing the rainfall actually get little bit lighter in delaware and south jersey. the heaviest now just east and northeast of dover. keep an eye on it for the rest of the night. you can see the remnants of the that may have. developed into a. tropical system but hasn't. that's moving out. that's going to take this rain with

. >> let's bring in meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz who is tracking these storms tonight. >> just like yesterday, some of these storms are not moving. that is creating that flood threat. we're also seeing some storms come into the philadelphia area. some storms in delaware that have been hanging in there. the jersey shore not nearly as bad. this has been trouble because it hasn't moved much. it's right along the delaware river and just across the river into new jersey, brils is right on the edge of this. that's some pretty heavy rain. and again it has not been moving very much. this area is not moving much either. it's right over dover. we're seeing some of that storm just sit right in the same spot over and over and over again. and now we also have some cells up approaching the philadelphia area in chester county. this is the strongest cell now. it's just south of westchester over birmingham near concorde. these are relatively small compared to yesterday. the track of that takes it to 6:30. if it moves along that track. now we're talking about that same storm that's nearly s

we begin with glenn "hurricane" schwartz with more. >> as you mentioned heaviest rain is long gone. it's out into the ocean. there is still a fairly large area of light rain over philadelphia area and northern delaware and parts of south jersey. one little area of heavier rain just south moving straight to the east. that's not in the area that got hit hardest. heaviest rain off of cape may, off of delaware beaches and it is gone. it's not coming back. there still are flood advisories across a good bit of south jersey and delaware and that will continue for the next several hours because of the rain that has just been so much of it. it will take a while to get totally gone. you can see this narrow band of very heavy rain, not a whole lot in philadelphia area. not a whole lot farther south. radar estimates of five to six inches of rain. parts of cumberland county and in central delaware. that's moving out. i'll tell you when the weather is going to get really nice again coming up. >>> heavy rain falling in margate earlier this afternoon. a few minutes we will go there live where the r

meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz has more on the threat for thunderstorms and who's likely to see them. >> a whole lot quieter at this time today than it was yesterday. this is part of the evidence in easton. so some showers are developing across the area. it's pretty late in the day already. so there's going to be a a limited amount. we also have a few build ups around the philadelphia area. and some of those have formed into thunderstorms. the main cluster is in delaware. started off in sussex county and now is right on the edge of hitting dover. i'm sure there's lightning in the area already. it looks like the storm has missed the beaches and will probably miss the enginejersey beaches because it's moving to the northeast. we have one that developed in northeast philly. and that should hit newtown in a few minutes. lawrence at 4:45. you can see that much of the area is rain free. right now temperatures are in the 80s just about everywhere. 87 in philadelphia. look how warm that ocean is. it's 78 degrees. we'll talk more about where the storms are headed, if there are anymor

here is glenn "hurricane" schwartz with your forecast. might want to get off that beach, right? it's not raining, it's okay. it's not windy, not freezing cold, not 110 degrees. so that is okay beach. philadelphia of the much of the surrounding areas, we have overcast condition, it's kept the temperature down a bit. some places not even getting out of the 70s as you can see. and that's what we have in northern delaware right now. we have some of the rain in new castle county. you can he will it the tell the on the temperatures. limestone road, claymont only 75 degrees right now. greenville 76. farther to the south, where the rain has not reached, it's79 in. and it's in the 70s at the beaches because of the wind coming in off the water. still not raining there and still not raining in cape may. that is in the philadelphia area and a lot of this is not reaching the ground. and when it does, it's just pretty much in the form of sprinkles. we don't see anything heavy on the radar right now and we're not really expecting nation oan over the next couple of hours. so you may get a few d

and you can see that on the first alert radar, as we go to the glenn hurricane schwartz for the latest>> yes, jacqui, because we are seeing the layest sky brightening in the background. that is the drier air to the west that is moving in, and we are seeing the brightening in the p.a. suburbs and the lehigh valley, and things are changein. as we taking a look at some of the temperatures in the suburbs, a lot of them, not even getting to the mid-70s today, and with west callen and only 73 degrees. 75 in kennette square. 74 in new town and new hope. we will be 10 to 15 degrees warmer than that tomorrow. just in the single day the. you can see how much of that rain has already moved off sh e shore, and some of the last of it is going through philadelphia right now. and into south jersey, and that is going to continue to move to the east. and in the drier air that is covering much of pennsylvania moves in, but there is so much moisture on the ground and with the high humidity and the light wind likely to see some fog by the end of the night and the morning. this is hurricane gert. this is t

first alert meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with an update on your neighborhood forecast. >> jim, things have quieted down this evening. i don't think we'll get anywhere near the amount or intensity of the storms tomorrow like we did today. we still have some leftover rain in parts of south jersey, delaware bay, from what fell earlier. and there's a new area line in central pennsylvania moving in this direction. futurecast does show that it has a potential to hold together during the middle of the night, so it could be getting some briefly heavy rain. but by the morning rush, it's pretty much gone. tomorrow morning looks dry. and then in the afternoon, remember by noontime today, there were showers and storms all over the place already. not much tomorrow, just some isolated storms across parts of the area, the jersey shore looks like it's going to be in fine shape. the temperatures getting knocked down by all the rain, in the 60s in the suburbs, not exactly a warm and humid night. but it will be heating up during the day. it will feel like it's in the low 90s. and again,

let's get an update from glenn hurricane schwartz. >> it's that same area, wildwood down toward the delaware beaches that have the best chance of seeing some rain. it's dry in cape may right now. and heat to dry out. but more rain that's headed in that direction as you can see going back into virginia. it's all moving toward the northeast. it's not a lot of rain. it's not heavy rain. but it's rain. and you can get some during the night tonight and into the early morning hours, maybe a little heavier in cape may and at the delaware beaches than elsewhere. and so the roads should be wet by the time you get up in the morning in those areas while north and west, actually see some sunshine. there's going to be more cloudiness in delaware and south jersey than there will be in pennsylvania tomorrow. but we're expecting a lot of clouds to start off the day. the temperature not rising a whole lot as a result. p.a. suburbs, more sunshine, though. lehigh valley getting sunshine while the jersey shore gets a little bit of rain first thing in the morning. but it will improve there and some beautiful wea

glenn "hurricane" schwartz is track tg ing the impact on our . >> yeah. it is raining just about everywhere in the area. it is a syre getting it from two different directions. you can see this in off of the ocean. you can also see it coming up from the coming right together that's why this isuc area of rainfall. this will be hour after hour the center is down to the south. it is not quite a closed circulation. it is kind of a a toast kal sto. you you can see the large area of rain. it will take a while before this gets out of here. the worst effects will be in southern delaware and jersey shore. this will be high winds, heavy rain and dangerous surf. that's g you can see heavier rain at the jersey shore and in southern delaware but the entire area getting rain during the afternoon. here we g the afternoon rush. it is just soaking rain. if anything it gets a little bit heavier as we head through the afternoon rush and be into the dinner time period. it will take a while to get out. forget it today. it is raining all day. the temperature goes nowhere. it is

that is where nbc's gadi schwartz is standing by for us. gadi, with a good morning to you, what are you seeing? >> reporter: good morning, alex. we're seeing a lot of rain here. this is what we've seen on and off throughout the day. in fact this street right here usually floods. there's two different types of houses on this street. there are what neighbors call hurricane houses. i don't know if you can see, but this right here is a hurricane house. it's on stilts about six feet off the ground. and then we've got houses across the street that aren't on stilts. they are houses that have been sandbagged and are protected right now. you can see how hard it is. it's raining right now. neighbors say they're not worried on this side of the street. neighbors on this side of the street are extremely worried. you can see why, they're right there on the ground level. i want to show you something pretty interesting. i'm going to get out of the rain here. look at this, this is the radar map that we're looking at right there. that's us, that's that blue

let's get the latest from glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> we have just issued a first a alert for those storms as they come in during the day tomorrow for the entire area. it should be sweeping through the entire region. generally starting around 2:00 in the afternoon for areas in the lehigh valley, berks county and not exiting until after 11:00 tomorrow night. and this for tropical type downpours is going to be humid tomorrow. right now, it's warm and humid. not nearly as humid edas tomorr. we're in the mid-80s across much of the area. the temperatures up to 91 in marshaltown. 82348 harmony hills. 88 in ready point. cool in dover. 78 and some rain. fellton at 9. a few of the fair weather clouds coming across the area. there's showers in if delaware. trying to cross delaware bay, but not very impressive. what is impressive is back to the west. and we have one, two, three, four lines of showers and thunderstorms between us and that upper air low near minneapolis. probably more than one hit of showers or storms in the next 24 hours. tonight things are just isolated showers. that's it. not

back to glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> a lot of bright colors. i want you to pay attention to this one thing. at the beginning of it, look at all the lightning bolts. we just saw the live shot. they have had really heavy rain, but lock at the lightning bolts. fewer and fewer of them. that's some really heavy rain. still have a flood threat. this cluster here, a little bit of it is drifting to the north. so i just tracked this part of it. we. put it into philly around 5:00. now we have already had flooding on the highways in south philly so that would be important to know. at 5:17, wohl see what happens. these are movie ining cay yachtically. this one to delaware looks like it's trying to come up by 95. sat the same time, some of these others are moving straight to the east. we have other storms in chester county. the ones in the lehigh valley have really weakened quite a bit. the colors not as bright. this one also in burlington county and ocean county was extremely heavy. just a half hour ago. so some of these places will be getting tremendous r
