on a saturday, it's 80 miles from seaside park to chelsea.s 80 miles for people who don't live in the area so they understand. on a saturday, there's not commuter traffic. you can get there pretty quick. this could be a related act. it's not true -- i can -- i can cite you chapter and verse in cases that i was involved in that bombers always make the same bomb. that's not the case. sometimes there's signatures that run through bombs. that's true. i would be not surprised to see the same wire, tape in both of those cases, new york and seaside park. wouldn't surprise me at all. even the same tool marks. bombers don't always make the same bomb. have i have had them make four or five different bombs. remotely detonated. timer detonated. gasoline, dynamite. you would say they're not the same bomber and yet they were when we caught them. that doesn't always hold true. if people look at the pressure cooker and say that's a pipe bomb, that's the wrong analysis. the analysis here is this formula is on page 40 of "inspire" magazine. right exactly down

we're live in seaside park ocean county, but we begin with monique braxton live in elizabeth right now. what can you tell us? >> reporter: hi, tracy. we're about a block away from the home of ahmad khan rahami. you can see flashing lights just over my shoulder. this is where the fbi is searching his home above a restaurant. and we've also been hearing reports that the restaurant, a chicken restaurant, so owned by his family. we're awaiting confirmation of that. but this location is about one mile away from the train station. nbc news has learned from multiple later sources, the suspicious device that exploded outside a pub in elizabeth overnight looks similar to the one that exploded saturday down in seaside park bomb squads from the fbi -- >> if that pub was crowded and there was a lot of people there, it could have severely injured millions of killed many -- >> reporter: the mayor of elizabeth is speaking now. the backpack was found by two men, just 300 feet from the front door of a pub in elizabeth. when the men saw wires and pipes, they immediately went to police headquarters. righ

the devices at seaside park and in new york were similar. both devices used a cell phone as the timing device. in new york, before that marine corps run, the charity run on saturday morning, they found three pipe bombs. only one detonated. there was the explosion in manhattan 8:30 saturday night. what they are saying is the similarity is a cell phone was used as a timing device in both locations. however, you know, you can find online instructions to make these bombs and a lot of times you can use cell phones as a timing device. that doesn't necessarily link these two incidents. they are looking at this. they say black powder was used in the new jersey bombs as well. they are piecing together the details. as of yet, no distinct connection. >> jessica, thank you. >>> there was another attack this weekend. isis is now claiming responsibility for a multiple stabbing attack in a minnesota mall. the attacker knifed nine people before an off-duty police officer shot him to death. three people remain hospitalized right now. one in life threatening

there was also an incident in seaside park, new jersey. they are also taking that materi that material also. i spoke with governor christie this morning. and we are coordinating resources between new york and new jersey to see if there is anything we can learn. the main coordinate mechanism is something called the joint terrorism task force. and that's up and operational. jersey appeared to be different than the ones that were in manhattan. as i mentioned, the response by the first responders was extraordinary. you know, you drill all the time. and you run exercises all the time. it is still different when it happens. i spoke to mayor de blasio. the nypd did a great job. the f.b.i. has done a great job. homeland security, new york state police, fire deme everyone really worked together and is coordinating on the investigation. fbs we have no reason to believe at this time, that there is any further immediate threat. but just to be cautious, we will be deploying close to an additional 1,000 new york state police and national subway stations
