police say 34-year-old shawn sinclair fired directly into the patrol car of officer jerome shaurette hitting him three times. officer shaurette responded after fellow officer curtis mcmillion called for backup. sinclair has an extensive record including several drug convictions and faced allegations of domestic violence. eyewitnesses says the gun battle was frightening. >> it was really a shootout. we never experienced this. >> something like out of "law and order" a movie, walk up to the police driver and let loose. >> reporter: the violent incident happened when sinclair assaulted two women at separate location. one may have filed this protective order that was dismissed last year. >> to assault women is cowardess. to run around the street of baltimore established shim as a menace and backed it up with events on the scene. >> reporter: video taken minutes after the incident showing sinclair on the ground. police shot him twice. >> i have very few apologies to make about his condition or the outcome of this incident. >> reporter: both officers were wearing their protective vests. re
