sherrie johnson is here with new information and reaction fromtrayvon martin afamily. >> reporter: yes, we have new information this morning on the case. today at 1 p.m. trayvon's martin aparents and attorney will hold a news conference. reverend al sharpton is expected to attend. special prosecutor in the case says she will release new information within 72 hours on this controversial shooting. it's an announcement as zimmerman's attorney made the statement they were resigning. his attorneys quit saying their client has not been returning their calls and is speaking to people against their advice. the attorneys say they last heard from him on sunday and they believe he may have left florida but would only say he is in the united states. the martin family believes zimmerman is a flight risk if authorities decide to charge him. >> wee we have a chance -- we have a chance to have his day in court where he can plead for self-defense if that's what he wants to use. but we want him arrested so he can come before a judge and jury. >> reporter: the special prosecutor says she will hold a news

. >> this morning city police are investigating a case of animal cruelty and sherrie johnson is here with more. >> reporter: that's right. they're still trying to figure out exactly what's going on here. officers removed eight dogs from a northwest baltimore home now police are investigating this as an animal cruelty case. two of the dogs had facial scarring in general but their body conditions was pretty good. neighbors say they don't believe anything illegal was going on inside that home. police got a tip about drug activity in the home in the 2900 block of silver hill after. when officers arrived to serve a search warrant, police found drugs in the home and a dog fighting ring. the owner of dogs, johnny taylor was taken into custody. investigators say they found enough evidence to charge him. >> there was medications therement there were a bunch of dogs there and there were dog fighting manuals there. that shows there may be some kind of indication there's dog fighting there. >> he was nice. he actually looked out for the kids. i've never seen any dog fighting or anything like tha

abc2 news sherrie johnson has a look at lane closures and how things are going to pan out foryou this morning. sherie. >> reporter: rod -- sherrie. >> reporter: good morning. we are southbound at exit number 6 at mount royal and also north avenue and right now, traffic is starting to pick up just a bit. no major congestion or backups right now. but traffic is moving along. the left lanes at 28th street in both directions were shut down on friday for repairs. now the lane closures are needed for emergency repairs to collapsed drainage pipes underneath the expresswaych the department of transportation says you need the closures for safety reasons. these closures will mean serious traffic congestion especially during rush hour. now we talked to drivers who are planning alternate routes because of this. and many are looking at liberty road, falls road and charles street. >> [audio not understandable] >> what i will be doing is driving downtown to. this morning, he is accused of abusing his power and abc2 news sherrie johnson is here with all new information on this investigation. >> reporter: megan, we've learned detective daniel nicholson has been suspended for improper behavior while trying to finds his missing teen daughter. the head of the city's police unit is standing up for him. last week baltimore city police sent out a flier asking for help locating the girl. county police began their own investigation and nicholson was suspended accused of abusing his powers by entering an apartment over the weekend searching for his daughter. they are investigating nicholson and whether any supervisors knew about his activities. he was investigated last year for child abuse. charging documents say his daughter had a facebook page which she was not allowed to have. police say he brought her home and used a cable to beat her. >> as a result of that investigation, we charged him with second degree assault. that case has been adjudicated. the charge was dropped by the state's attorney after the family agreed to go through mediation. >> now if the

sherrie johnson is here with the details. >> today in downtown baltimore, protesters will hit the street in a call to action in the trayvon martin case, also today, martin's parents will ask the u.s. justice department to review a prosecutor's interaction with police. they launched an investigation in to the death on march 19th. the family is asking it to look for possible interference by state attorney's office with the detective. martin was shot be killed by watch volunteer zimmerman after he called to report the teen as a suspicious person. a police report filed hours after the shooting lists manslaughter under the offenses section but police cited florida's stand your ground law for not arresting zimmerman. it allows people to use deadly force when they feel a threat or death or serious injury. the lead homicide investigator filed an affidavit pushing for charges the night of the shooting but overruled by the state attorney's office. 13 people in indianapolis were arrested during a demonstration demanding justice. the death sparked rallies across the nation. >> it's no arrests, no ap
