shomari stone just spoke to her friends and family. he joins us live from the scene. shomari? >> reporter: her family and friends are understandably grieving tonight asking themselves why did this have to happen. she was walking home behind me on randolph road. suddenly a car jumped the curb and plowed into her. maria posadas was the mother of eight children three in montgomery county five in honduras. her friends told me she sold ice cream near randolph road and veirs mill road, and she melted hearts with her warm personality. she was walking home when an 83-year-old driver lost control hit a utility pole, and slammed into maria on the sidewalk. she died at the hospital. moments ago, we talked to her family and friends. >> she is a very nice person. >> i feel sad about her kids. her kids and her family. >> and tonight maria posadas' son tells me he is too upset to talk on camera. as for this 83-year-old driver medics transported her to the hospital. she is going to be okay. she has minor injuries. police have not charged her. this investigation continues. they're trying to fi

shomari stone live there now with the pictures just released by police tonight. shomari? >> reporter: well, jim this is downright despicable. these firefighters put their lives on the line every day, helping the community. and the last thing they need to deal with is walking out of this firehouse to their car or their suv and seeing that someone broke into it. that's exactly what happened to them. right now police want your help identifying the suspect. here he is in this surveillance image. investigators say he has been stealing items such as laptops out of cars and suvs in the back parking lot here at the burtonsville volunteer fire department building at 13900 old columbia pike. the suspect broke in the volunteer and career firefighters' cars between april 10th and june. tonight we talked to a captain here at the firehouse. let's hear what he has to say. >> we're glad we got a picture of him. we hope to catch him soon. sooner than later. you always don't like when your privacy is invaded. no one likes that. and especially when you come here and you're out running calls

shomari stone has been working that scene and tweeting out information all night. >> shomari, what have you learned? >> tonight charles county sheriffs investigators are still here on the scene, gathering evidence. a web of yellow crime scene tape surrounds this block. it is shut down right now. and people cannot come inside. officials tell us that this nine-year veteran feared for his life and was forced to fire. it happened right over there in the driveway, people tell me. his girlfriend tells me that's not true. the officer did not have to fire. the girlfriend admits, let's roll some video, that the suspect was intoxicated inside the waldorf house. it all started when they got in an argument. he and he broke it down. her daughter called 911 for help. she says the boyfriend ran to the kitchen grabbed the knife, and then threatened to kill himself when police arrived at the house. when police showed up they say he was agitated and refused several demands to drop the knife. investigators say he then moved towards one of the officers. that officer says he felt threatened and fired one sh

shomari? >> reporter: well, jim, tonight it is a mystery. fairfax county police have not released this woman's name. her body was found behind me near the parking garage, near the woods. and we talked to some people in this community, people who live nearby. business owners. and tonight they are concerned about their safety. tonight, a security guard patrols this herndon, virginia garage hours after the body of a woman was found in the grass next to it. >> i walk my dogs in that area all the time. >> jamie sullivan is extra vigilant while she walks kailey.
