the snow survey in the sierra. you can see the breakdown for the north to the central portions of the sierra and the southern sierra. so clearly, all those atmospheric rivers really having an impact on northern californians, translating to these numbers as well. statewide average 108% of average. and we will continue to build the snowpack as we do move into friday. here is a look at the projections here. and snow levels actually coming down to possibly 5000 to 5500ft. and a winter storm warning begins tomorrow morning, 7 a.m, running until 10:00 tomorrow night. and snowfall could be around six to possibly 12in. so this will be a winter storm warning for the west slopes of the sierra. closer to lake tahoe is. it is a winter weather advisory that's setting up with this pattern over the next few days. now, in terms of the rain showers here in the bay area, we are expecting things to pick up overnight. here's a look at the satellite, where you can see some green showing up in northern california, right around eureka, r

sierra at 94% or southern sierra. at 75% of that happens because a lot of these storms that are coming from the pacific northwest just don't make it that far south. however, having said that, we are gonna get a little more snow as we roll into the weekend. so 48 degrees right now in tahoe. pretty calm out there. this is where we have our our winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings are going up starting at 07:00am on friday till 10:00pm and fridays. that's when you don't want to be on the roads. that's when some snow be falling. it's not gonna be a whole lot. we're talking 2 to 5 inches above about 5,000 feet, up to 12 inches up at the peaks. and of course, we're gonna have some gusty wind with that as well. so showing you this, we can see where the rain starts to come in in the morning here in the bay area. and then the snow starts to pick up, especially in the afternoon as we get into the sierra. that's when they're going to be under that warning and the advisory and then it clears out rather quickly. so

by the time it gets his way up in the sierra nevada. you're talking that snow level dropping down to about 5500 feet. so winter storm warnings on the western of the sierra nevada. that means all the passes. if you're driving over 15, 80, yeah, going to be some issues tomorrow. maybe some delays up there expect that as you head throughout the day, that storm system going to be ramping up starting in the morning. but getting going really through the middle of the day in the afternoon. that winter storm warning in effect from 07:00am until 10 o'clock tomorrow night. by the time we had all things up, probably another foot of snow the higher peaks there. so that' some good news. but really the focus of the storms this season so far, really northern california, really a north bay onward. you've seen tremendous amounts of rain and a lot of snow 161% of normal in the northern sierra nevada just a little bit below average in the central. then you get to the southern. i'm actually surprised even have as much as they do. 75% of normal in the south

and we talked about the storm warning in the sierra. a lot of clouds streaming into northern california right now. and the focus of the rain is up here along the north coast, right around eureka, right around cape mendocino. that rain line will eventually move to the south first thing tomorrow morning. for right now, though, it's a nice afternoon heading into your thursday evening. and temperatures actually mild in the south bay. san jose 62, san francisco 58 degrees. and that's our live camera right now. and we will gradually thicken up the high cloud cover later on tonight into early tomorrow morning. so rainfall spreads south first thing tomorrow morning. temperatures will be in the 40s and the 50s. and here is the forecast model. this is 7:00 friday morning. notice it moves to the south at 10:00. so this could be a factor for the morning commute. and then the focus will be kind of draped in the south bay. still the possibility of a few scattered showers for tomorrow afternoon. but once this moves on out, looks like we have a dry wee

and we're even seeing some breaks in the clouds for the sierra.t is going to continue into the late night to evening hours, and we do expect again the winter travel advisories to last into the evening hours as well. here's a look at some of the accumulation between now and the end of a friday into midnight. anywhere from 6 to 9in even 12in will be a possibility. some of the highest peaks are likely to pick up a foot to a foot and a half. snowing right now, right around blue canyon, south lake tahoe and truckee with temperatures right near freezing. getting into the weekend, the snow and the wind is expected to pull away and we will be left with partly cloudy, cold conditions for the afternoons in the 40s. overnight lows will be in the 20s. meanwhile, for us here at home, the timing on this once again, if you are just joining us, you notice we do actually have a plenty of clear sky and even some sunshine before the sun sets. but about 7:00 or so another wave is moving through. if you have evening plans, dinner plans, this could catch you off guard.

forest service and the pasadena and sierra madre fire departments. in addition to our law enforcement partners. the fire has been mapped this afternoon at 10,600 acres and it is still growing. we have 0% containment. we have over 750 firefighting personnel assigned on the line and mutual aid resources from out of state, including arizona, have arrived to assist us with this firefight. unfortunately. we have 5 reported civilian fatalities. a number of injuries and over 1000 structures damaged or destroyed. the cause of the fire is unknown and under active investigation by both the los angeles county fire department, los angeles county sheriff's department. and the u.s. forest service arson. investigators. and the moment we learn the cause of this fire, we will advise the media. we also have a new fire start in the acton area of los angeles county. the lydia fire estimated to be between 1800 acres, 30% contained. her 30% contained. thankfully forward progress has been stopped. as the region. one coordinator, i did request mutual aid from the 5 counties

let's take a look at the sierra. it has been snowing and it is still snowing right now, with chain controls on all roads leading up to the mountains. we did get our share of rain as well earlier in the day, the morning part of the afternoon, and even right now we are seeing a few sprinkles developing right around santa rosa, so we're not quite done with those spotty showers. here's a look at the rainfall totals. just under a half an inch in santa rosa, topping that slightly in ben lomond, 2/10 in oakland 1800, san francisco, about 1100 in san jose, and 100th of an inch in concord. here's a live view or our view. excuse me for a time lapse from the sierra tonight. it was a wintry scene, just so pretty as the snow was coming down, but not easy to get up there. here are some live pictures from here in the bay area and also up in the mountains. mount tam is showing you what you're going to have to deal with tomorrow morning, which is some fog and it is dropping visibility. half moon bay right now, four miles, three miles

the south central sierra, which includes tahoe.t's pretty close. they'll add to that. they'll probably bump up to about 97, 98% after today's system, but for the statewide average, 108. so again, three months to go, three and a half. system is making its move. it's inching closer. and this looks like a rain for all. eventually it may take a while to get south per usual here, but our system will spread pretty good. rain i think about a half inch to an inch, certainly up towards the russian river. some of the amounts have been trimmed back a little bit. i'm not surprised, but santa rosa, probably about a half inch, but a third to a half a quarter should cover it. although for the sierra you're looking at 7 to 10in of snow being forecast. so a winter storm warning has been posted. snow levels start off pretty high, probably around lake level, and then really start to drop as we head towards this afternoon and also tonight. so if you're going up there earlier you go the better or wait until tomorrow. 46 tahoe, 43 truckee. that's becaus

all right, now around the sierra. so a lot of folks really catching a little bit of a break to get up there and enjoy all that beautiful snow in the high country for little skiing just to enjoy. but temperatures cold as you might expect. you headed up there down to 37 degrees right now incline village currently. 39 trucking. 38 in homewood and it is fit. 41 degrees in south lake tahoe. so if you plan on heading up there still, i think tomorrow looks like a good day, but things change on friday. some rain begins to move in throughout the day and that's going to turn to snow overnight on friday night into early on saturday morning. so that might be the one time that you run into some trouble. if you're headed to the high country, the partly cloudy skies and dry weather expected on saturday. fec should be dry on sunday, too. so it's been a banner year up there. so far. they've had a lot of snow on. well, now we get to enjoy little break really in the most of the stormy weather pattern. so at the summit, their palace say

this is going to be a snowmaker for the sierra. let's add that up with futurecast. we're talking about 5 to 10 inches in general. the snow line will be around 5,500 feet. winter storm warning for the highest elevations and a winter weather advisory at lake level around tahoe. travel will be treacherous along u.s. 50 and i-80. put it off until saturday. here's the dry forecast as we look farther down the line, significant trend toward drier than normal conditions in the six to ten day outlook and in the eight to 14-day outlook to mid-january. after tomorrow basically two weeks of dry weather ahead of us. we'll keep you updated in case things trend in a bit more unsettled direction. we are going to see a warm-up once the atmosphere dries out. we go from near average temperatures in the showers tomorrow and without the showers saturday. then we warm up, low to mid-60s by the middle of next week on average. some of the warmest spots could threaten 70 degrees, especially wednesday and thursday. sounds pretty good. >>> straight ahead in sports, if you had a ticket to toni
