solyndra. when that was floated a couple of years ago, there was not much criticism from your committee. doesn't congress have responsibility for the failure of this program? >> remember that the republicans have only had the house for barely a year. it was exactly a year this weekend when we began our investigation of solyndra. we have been trying to get the answers to the questions from the get go. formerly, we had to subpoena the documents. -- formally, we had to subpoena the documents. we wrote a tough letter asking for more information that we think is being withheld from us. even being able to interview career folks at the office of management and budget who = =-- that had been denied. on thursday, the administration agreed for us to conduct some interviews with people who are in the know. we will see how those discussions go. we have asked for more documentation and documents from the white house. we are hoping they are able to respond. we will see. it has been terrible but it has been a

battle over solyndra, it could reach a boiling point.a that could happen on friday. why is it so hot? the bankruptcy solar company cost one-half billion dollars and they aren't getting answers from the obama administration. joe stevens joins us. tell me what is going on with this. is the white house coming up with the answer to do what the house wants before friday or is this subpoena battle? >> that is what makes it exciting. there is a threat of subpoena battle on friday morning. we don't know what the white house is going to do. they have been cooperative and committee has not found anything that suggests anything is wrong. there is no reason to give them anymore. what we've seen before, a game of brinkmanship. this is one year this week since this committee started the solyndra investigation. repeatedly they had this battle, the white house and committee demands things and rattle sabers and they reach a compromise a couple times. they subpoenaed documents originally the could committee wasn't getting what they wanted. white house tur

that is why we have heard so much about solyndra and keystone. the more significant issues that have to do with all our energy future are getting short shrift. as the debate goes on as we approach the election campaign, we will have some serious discussion about what we should be doing with regard to alternative energy, what we should be doing with regard to some of these things. there is a major difference of opinion. the public not been made sufficiently aware of it. >> what do you think president obama should outline as an energy policy in his second term? >> he has outlined the major parts of an energy policy in his first term. he has been trying to make progress in the continuing to emphasize production. he is putting more effort in developing alternative sources of energy so we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions. i assume he will have that as his platform going forward. >> do you think he needs to be more specific? >> he has been specific on a lot of that. the budget we see will be specific on how much money he is proposing that we spend.
