the dead birds were found off of highway 101 in sonoma county. the california highway patrol reported to a scene only seen in arkansas and louisiana. more than 100 boards have been clustered on the ground. you are looking at a picture court see of the press democrat. the birds were all the same type and being tested by a biologist right now. no immediate word on what caused the birds death. the chp who we contacted this morning contacted the california department of fish and gain. you might remember on new years eve 5,000 red winged blackbirds fell from the sky. they died to blunt trauma to all organs. more recently 500 birds were found in louisiana. 300 miles from the arkansas incident. all are under investigation and we hope to hear back from the california highway patrol for more information about what happened here. reporting live jade hernandez. >>> san francisco is expected to have an interim mayor by this afternoon. the man to be opponented is city administrator ed lee. the 58-year-old has served under four previous mayors. it will be inte

-- sonoma county. we learned a man who drove his motorcycle off highway 1 in jenner has died. the chp says 48-year-old douglas scott fennel of santa rosa made desperate cell phone calls yesterday afternoon immediately after the crash. fennel first called his wife. he called 911. fennel told emergency dispatchers, he lost control of his harley and randed -- and landed in thick brush between the highway and the ocean but he could not tell them exactly where. that set off a massive search involving several search helicopters and several police agencies. >> we had three or four locations in the beginning. we tried every one of them an finally we just went on foot. >>> a san rafael couple is h omeless after a fire next door spread. the fire began around 3:30 this morning and did spread to the home next door. the first home was vary can't. but the people, two of them, inside the second house were evacuated safely. officials think combustible material may be to blame left behind from workers. >> i got a call.

our computer animation starting tonight 5:00 you'll notice parts of northern sonoma county getting wetnt still offshore. but then by later on this evening, here comes that front pushing through sonoma county and by the overnight hours we've got scattered showers and behind it the colder air and by 5:00 tomorrow morning maybe a few heavier showers in the north bay and throughout the later morning hours. here comes the low. we're looking at showers throughout the late morning and then by the afternoon still some cool unstable air. looking at anywhere from about an inch of rain in the north bay with a tenth to three-quarters in the east bay, south bay, santa cruz mountains. so quite a switch from our dry weather pattern. in sierra nevada, a winter weather advisory. the first snow since mid-january. looking at 3 to 6 inches at lake level at best and about 7,000 feet maybe a half a foot to a foot but that's probably not likely. we'll be looking at definitely some treacherous travel if you're heading to the sierra nevada. it's been quite some time since we've seen that snow and ice in that a

the north bay this morning, moving in neither santa rosa, and heading towards petaluma, parts of sonomas well as napa. forecast for the morning will be some showers as well as the afternoon, as you head out the door, cloudy conditions, chance of rainfall expected for the morning and temperatures will range from the upper 30s in our coldest spots to temperatures around the lower 50s. as we move into the afternoon, keep the umbrella in the car, you still might need it. off-and-on showers expected, cloudy skies and temperatures ranging from the lower 50s to lower 60s. satellite and radar, clouds coming in and those clouds bringing in rainfall. it is a frontal system that is moving towards the bay area. that's a nice line you can see there as it moves in through the state of california, it will be giving us a chance of rain showers here in the bay area. so the rain returns today, but after that, we are going to be high and dry through the weekend. how much rainfall can you expect? up to 1/4 inch in the north bay, up to 1/10 an inch in the east bay, the south bay, the santa cruz mountains an
