at the junction of highway 12 and 121 in shellville in sonoma county. chp and cal-trans closed off large sections of the 2 roads because of heavy rain that flooded the entire area. highway 121 where it connects to highway 12 in shellville closed late this afternoon by the chp. this is an area usually floods in heavy storms and today was no different. before the closure some drivers seeming indifferent to the flooding just plowed through the water. chp says this kind of driving is what causes accidents. >> the obvious danger is that they are going to hydro-plane and lose control of the vehicle and either slam that the railing here or go off in a ditch or worse case scenario head on with another vehicle. we ask everybody to slow down. >>reporter: now the closure and resulting detour create traffic jams in the early in the evening. chp is keeping a close eye on the weather in case of more flooding. back here live. high tide is expected just about now and chp was concerned that would actually contribute to the flooding. but because the rain let off so much

what we were seeing was flooding in sonoma county. for a while they had a stretch of highway 121 shutdown. within the last few minutes, i literally had just changed the map, they reopen that stretch of highway 121. you no longer need an alternate but the highway was shut down overnight because of all the wet weather and water. crabby or chains, this will still be an issue. interstate 80, highway 50, and highway 88, you will need snow chains for all the major routes to the sierra. no brake lights out of the altamont pass yet. usually in the next half-hour or so it is when we start to see changing colors. a few species are under 40 m.p.h.. if you really want to beat the rush you can head out now because it is not too bad. a similar story in the south bay. these are live traffic sensors we put up showing you what it looks like. pretty much at the limit, 64 or 65 mi. per hour. here is the drive time, it 101, 280, and 87 all in the clear. >> there are new details of fraud allegations against california's democratic campaign treasurer. he w
