kron four's spencer blake explains the debate. lefty o'doul's - a restaurant that perhaps millions have enjoyed - has been under management of nick bovis' family for about thirty years. the handlery family owns the building on geary, including the hotel next door, and signed the original lease for the restaurantwith lefty o'doul himself in 1958. they claim that means they own the restaurant - the establishment itself. "it's not right to take other people's property, and there are consequences to that. and we think it's poor behavior and bad manners, to put it politely." but bovis and his team are ready to fight back. they say everybody knows who really owns lefty's, and they touted the trademark on the name, which belongs to bovis.
