a developing story in the east bay about a meningitis scare at st. mary's college. laura anthony joins us now from the county health department with late details. laura? >> hi, cheryl. we just got done speaking with a public health doctor and a representative from st. mary's dlej and they did confirm that the st. mary's student does have meningitis. the test shows that they have meningitis, but not that particular strain. the student became seriously ill yesterday morning and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. as a precautionary measure st. mary's had extra cleaning of areas where the student had been. here's what the public health doctor had to say. >> we're suspecting meningococcal disease and we just don't have laboratory confirmation. in the absence of laboratory confirmation, we treat it based on the old school medication of what's the symptom and what is the projected disease. >> we work diligently to administer prof lactics to approximately 60 community members who were in close contact with the affected student. >> reporter: beyond that st. mary's
