stephen willeford and johnnie langendorff. i mentioned them yesterday and perhaps you've seen them on the news, but i've been thinking a lot about them lately in addition to the tragedy, this was really one of the things that gives you a little hope amidst the terrible circumstances. stephen of course is the man who responded to the shooter's rampage by grabbing his rifle and running toward the church first baptist. johnnie drove the truck that chased the gunman down at high speeds. in typical texas fashion, these two gentlemen don't consider themselves to be heroes, but i consider them to be heroes. they said they were just doing what needed to be done. johnnie said it was act now, ask questions later, that kind of deal. i think we in washington should take more of our cues from people like johnnie and stephen. we should show courage and track down anything that's not right and do our very best to fix it. in particular, stephen willeford -- maybe you have to be a texan or alaskan to really appreciate what he did -- from what

the hero of the story is a middle-aged plumber named stephen willeford.nored basic human instinct and ran towards the sound of gunfire to save people. he was armed with an ar-15,st that's exactly the sort of rifle we've been told must be banned for our sake to keep us safe. he shot the murderer twice with that rifle and later chased him in a car until kelley ran off the road. only after the rampage was over did the police arrive, and by that point kelley was dead. it's an amazing story, but it's not exceptional. about 70% of mass shootings and within 5 minutes. the average police response timu by contrast, 11 minutes. and yet for some reason, the usual establishment mouthpieces are still giving us the same stupid instructions in case of emergency. take cover and call authorities. no thanks. it's pretty clear that doesn't work.er we are not attacking the police, we are just acknowledging what is obviously true. cops can't be everywhere. when things fall apart, you are on your own. your safety is your responsibility. the iron law of life, it never changes.

and stephen willeford is a hero and johnny langendorff.. i'm so grateful for those two men. to your question, we have been told for so long by a lot of the politician calling for gun control and called for gun control in the hours after this tragedy, we have been promised by them that the system was going to work and that the background check system in place, the nic system by the way that the nra pioneered and created, that this was going to work. the nra has fought for 20 years to make sure that people who are adjudicated mentally unfit that these records are added to the system. but then we keep seeing these occurrences that are taking place and people who are able to purchase a firearm because of human era. or because they fell through the system. these laws need to work and they need to be enforced. i want to make a huge put them in numbers for people to understand. think of it like this. 38 states report fewer than 80% of felony convictions to the system. that means that there are 7 million convictions that are left out there in the
