bell yesterday. things aren't necessarily looking better for its key fourth quarter. steve joins us with more.day quarter that sent shares lower last night, but easing off those lows today. the street was expected 5% revenue growth for the current quarter, but expect sales to be about flat compared to the year ago quarter. so the question now is, what happened? it was an excuse-a-thon in the earnings call, apple blaming foreign exchange, and some new air pods and ipads didn't get new updates this year. on top of that, we're still getting signals that iphone demand isn't strong enough in the u.s. and china. i asked the ceo tim cook about that, and specifically about renewed competition in china from huawei which started making phones again after taking a hiatus over the last couple of years. he didn't address huawei directly but said the iphone 15 pro models are supply constrained due to strong demand but will have to see how the current quarter shakes out. and still some right spots in this apple report, especially for services, which grew 16% to 22.3 billion dollars, that's some reacceleratin

steve. >>> coming up, salesforce earnings in overtime. shares popping over 10% this month. that's next. >>> welcome back. salesforce reports after the belljoe and kerry, you both own this. what do you expect? >> we expect the quarter to be decent. we talk about billing maybe 12% and continuing to cut cost. this is a company that has gone through a lot of soul searching to realize that investors care about costs and they had to really rein those in, which they've been able to do it. there's been softness in software. no pun intended. we're looking something that points to strengthening. but the stock is up 70% year-to-date. and 14% in the last month. so they have to really post something good for guidance to get those stocks moving higher. >> valuations disturb you on this company? >> not really. it used to be a 60 pe stock, so it's not nearly as high as crowdstrike. >> he was being facetious. >> this is a quarter where the expectations are high. i think they're high, they have to exceed the expectations. they have to have a contribution somewhere in here beyond just strong margins, beyond just reducing costs. i think they really have to

steve liesman. welcome to both of you. rich, all right. so i guess you're not super excited about apple after the bell then? >> no. that's not going to have my attention. i think, look, i think there's a couple really bullish things going on today. number one is that small stocks are outperforming large stocks. in your opening you did not mention the russell 2000. the russell 2000 is outperforming the mag seven quite a bit today. outperforming the s&p. i think that's a very bullish sign because we know that profits are starting to reaccelerate. the market is starting to pay attention fundamentals again. second thing i would point to that's bullish is non-u.s. is out performing u.s. similarly based on fundamentals. it's quite bullish. the third thing cryptos are under pressure. nothing fundamental about the crypto markets and the fact that we have stocks based on funds going up on a day when cryptos are going down. these are fundamentally based observations. i think that is bullish. >> it's not -- steve, i'll turn to you because i hear rich saying it's not just the back of a, you know, fed pivot or anything like th

bell. the street will be watching for an update on china iphone demands, the holiday quarter overall. shares are up 2% today. for today's tech check, diedra and steveit down. diedra, let's just start with you and set the scene for us a little bit here. >> yeah. so something i've been looking at this morning is what you mentioned first is the china factor. what has been typically apple's greatest opportunity is now looking these days more like a liability. it has wall street a little worried. it's not just the supply side that started a year ago, almost a year ago today with the foxconn factories, but now it's about demand. what kind of impact is the return of huawei's smartphone having on iphone demand? data shows that the market share for apple in china has decreased because it's really been the success from huawei. we know that the iphone 15, according to third party data, hasn't been selling as strong. so that's what investors will want to look at. >> steve, what is the mood in cupertino? can you give us a sense of things just from the trees out there? >> yeah, i mean, it's a gorgeous day. but look, the thing that everyone will be looking for is

steve just showed just. >> well, first, the social scientist in me wants to point out we're still warnock the margin of error, that means that this is setting off alarm bellsand for me when i look at those youth numbers, that is frightening from the democratic perspective. young folks it end to be overwhelmingly more democratic, but we're not seeing that support here. there is a lot of time before the election. a lot can happen in terms of foreign policy but there needs to be a concrete strategy, and how to cultivate that. we saw the youth vote come out very strongly for democrats in the midterm election. the hope is that that momentum would keep going. we're seeing it go in reverse. how do you stop that trend and shore up that support? as well as enthusiasm. it's not just the approve and disapprove but are you going to get up and vote and get your friends to vote with you? >> and, victoria, on the other side, former president trump was in texas over the weekend to receive governor greg abbott's endorsement as it comes when he prepares to sign a state bill that is a crime to cross the border without any state papers. he said he would carry out the largest
