. >> now, steve harrigan is live in orlando. >> there were silence here when results were read behind me seemed like many people were expecting a defeat but perhaps not such a dramatic one here tonight. throughout the day newt gingrich remained defiant speaking with supporters outside of a polling station saying this is a fight that will go on no matter what results in florida. he expected it to go on five, six months from now. today, he made the case that now, it's a two-person race in florida and he said it's a question of people power versus money power, money power being romney campaign. as far as reasons for the dramatic turn around, in the gingrich campaign, many people are pointing at different reasons. they're saying he was out debated. others saying he was outorganized but one thing is clear. he was outspent in this campaign by the romney campaign. one detail stands out. that is the amount of advertisements run by both sides, by wednesday of last week, the romney campaign had run 13,000 television ads. and during that same period, gingrich campaign just 200. both did go negat

steve harrigan has more live from miami. er: jon, at this moment medical examiners are trying to determine if that body, discovered in the main woods is that of the 31-year-old florida firefighter, jerry perdomo. he was reported missing several days ago. police are calling this a homicide. it is related to drugs. the chief suspect is a 24-year-old maine man, daniel porter. he was arrested earlier today and charged with murder. the two men have a violent history between them, several death threats exchanged. there were bits of blood and jerry perdomo's skull found inside the house where the suspect was arrested. his disappearance reported several days ago drew several firefighters both from florida and maine to help in the search for him when the suspect was arrested some of those florida firefighters were present. >> i'd be relieved if they found somebody. i'll be a little morey hraoefd when we actually know that we have him. >> reporter: in ao digs to being a firefighter here in florida jerry perdomo was also a veteran of th

steve harrigan live for us in miami. steve, what is nasa doing to mark the anniversary?heather, some major celebrations this weekend at cape canaveral. nasa marking the anniversary of the man some call america's last hero. 90-year-old john glenn will be in attendance. the first american to orbit the earth as well as number two, scott carpenter. glenn says despite the fact that the flight took place 50 years ago mopped the images from that travel are still seared in his memory. >> it is amazing to me to look back 50 years and think that it has been 50 years because i guess it seems, still seems so vivid to me and i guess, it was vivid at the time and so i guess it was easy to remember but it's been a rare day since then over the past 50 years that there hasn't been some recollection or someone hasn't asked a question about spaceflight or about nasa or something. so we recalled this so often. it remained very vivid to me. >> reporter: john glenn orbited the earth three times 50 years ago from monday. the entire flight took just under five hours t was altitude of 162 miles.

steve harrigan joins us with more, live from miami. >> reporter: nasa is rolling out the red carpet inape canaveral, celebrating john glenn's achievement, also that of scott carpenter, the only remaining member of the seven mercury astronaut crew glenn's mission was scrapped ten times before taking off 50 years ago, due to mechanical or weather prorks and after the first three orbits around the earth, the manual piloting system failed so he had to handle things himself after that, but despite the snags, the technical hiccups glenn said he was never afraid at any time during the mission. >> people ask quite often, were you afraid during the launch, or in orbit, and if you're talking about fear that overcomes what you're supposed to do, no. you train very hard for these flights and i trained very hard for that first orbital flight, and we had tried to foresee all the things that could happen, but we didn't see all of them, and i had some control -- the automatic control system went out at the end of the first orbit, it was wasting fuel and i was able to go to the manual and control that
