this is a storm team 4 weather alert. we're here with tom and the storm team 4 weather center and the fortunate thing we're seeing the snow wind down. >> it is. and you came to my desk yesterday and said i'm nervous about driving in this morning. how was it for you? >> i slid a little bit one time but i topped 15 miles per hour. that was a fast as i went. >> i know. my brakes went off a couple of times. here is the storm team 4 radar. it shows one lingering band of moderate snow in the northern deck. it stretches to southern saint mary's county. another band here with light snow in this gray area from east of i 801 in the shenandoah valley to the pan handle of west virginia. the back edge is passing through montgomery county in another hour or so. about four inches around the immediate metro area. southern and western suburbs had about five inches. as much as six inches fell in northern maryland toward fredericksburg. and temperatures in the teens by noontime will be in the low to mid 20s. and then by later in the afterno

our storm team 4 is out on the roads tracking the conditions you'll be dealing with. more rain moving this way. tom kierein has the areas under advisories for the day ahead. >> late last night while you were watching the super bowl we have little bit of sleet and snow. since then, it's been above freezing. we've had one wave of rain pass through the metro area north and east. another one here in west virginia but right now the metro area just a few scattered sprinkles. the batch of rain in west virginia tracking northeast. will be moving into the metro around this morning. all these areas in tan under a wind advisory noon to midnight includes just about all of virginia all of maryland eastern west virginia. this afternoon we could have gusts to 50 miles per hour and some scattered power outages are possible by later this afternoon. hour by hour through the day ahead, we'll have the temperatures climbing just into the upper 30s and low 40s during the afternoon with some rather strong gusts of winds. those winds could be gusting to around 50 miles per hour. that will be

here's the latest on storm team 4 radar. the white is snou snow. the penguin is mainly freezing rain. you can see that mainly impacting southern maryland up through washington. this is our storm system moving towards the north and east. now, in the area where we are starting to see this mix over this includes wal dofsh. reagan national is reporting freezing rain. we'll continue to track a wintry mix. that means freezing rain snow sleet, and even a little bit of rain. veronica the temperatures are -- temperatures are slowly warming. like we've been saying people have to stay off the roads. we're going to throw it out to you with a look at the current temperatures right now. >> yeah. you guys saw that purple on the radar. that's the sleet. exactly what's falling here. then it's nothing but sleet right now where i am just out front of nbc 4 northwest d.c. throughout the area again, temperatures very critical to what we're going to see overnight. if you thought you could get by okay today with the snow-covered roads, not the case as we move forward. 30

the storm team 4 radar up close. the area in the gray getting a little bit of light snow across northern prince william, western fairfax, loudoun, pan handle of west virginia shenandoah valley, montgomery, and howard and frederick. much of the accumulating snow has ended. there's another band there that is across the bay near cambridge. the last little band here of light snow they may dip to the northern suburbs over the next hour or so. then most of that snow is gone as we go forward into the rest of the morning. that snow on the eastern shore by 8:00 this morning will be pretty much all gone and then behind that a lot of clouds around through 8:00 or so. we may get a little break in the cloud cover around 9:00 or 10:00 this morning with sunshine breaking out. the road conditions will be treacherous for the morning commute and the mid teens. and the afternoon commute around 30 degrees and sunshine out that will help to melt things a little bit. it will quickly freeze right back up. temperatures will stay below freez

amelia segal as i mentioned is in the storm team 4x4. amelia, you've gone from nothing in loudoun county to heavy snow. now you're tracking it in towards d.c. >> reporter: yeah exactly, doug. we're about five miles corner. the snow right now is lighter in intensity so the roads here are just wet not slushry. but toward leesburg once the snow moved in and it was heavy, the roads were slushy and had isolated slick spots. not tracking any wind but we've bb out here since about 4:00 p.m., the temperature at that point 35 degrees rg the latest temperature on the truck right now around 26.5. we have noticed almost a ten-degree temperature drop. the visibilities right now just outside of tysons aren't so bad. our plan is to continue to move eastward and bring you the latest conditions on area roads. right now though, route 7 is okay with just wet roads, not slick conditions. but as the snow continues to move in, of course, we could notice some slick spots likely developing, doug. >> thanks. stay safe out there. you can see the first band here,

and this morning no snow, just a few scattered sprinkles showing up on storm team 4 radar. right now little spectacles of green are just scattered light rain showers. very light now. panhandle of west virginia central shenandoah valley. along 66 along 81 between martinsburg up toward hagarstown and then east of there, just maybe a light rain drop in southern montgomery county, northern prince george's county w and parts of northern virginia loudoun county getting a few of those sprinkles moving on in. here is the timing on any steadier rain. it will arrive here this afternoon. but to our west, a few scattered light sprinkles the areas in green where we may get some rain. but then it does start to fill in and broader area of rain begins to move in this is as of 3:00 prn.m.. northern western suburbs and the mountains by 3:00 p.m.. after that, most of the rain is just south of the metro area. this area in pink along the pennsylvania border that may be a little bit of freezing rain or sleet during the latter part of the afternoon and into the early evening hours. then a broader

storm team 4 meteorolo veroni begins our coverage first at 4. v.j.? >> nearly two dozen counties with school delays this morning because because of icy conditions. i think we'll have more delays tomorrow maybe not quite as widespread. the temperatures are back down again, 31 in d.c. 33 in fredericksburg. folks south around quantico stafford 25 to the north, montgomery county around gaithersburg and sandy spring. the windchill factor though those temperatures what it feels like out there, at least 10 degrees lower than the air temperature. the winds still gusting over 20 miles per hour. look at that windchill, 16 now manassas 15 in gaithersburg. our cold run is expected to continue with our average temperature now around 49 to 50. but we're not feeling any of that. got a little bit of a break, of course second half of the weekend, but for us it's a cold week ahead. your weather headlines, more icy conditions coming your way tomorrow morning, freezing conditions tomorrow and yes, this week we could see a few flurries drift by. i'll show you when coming
