we begin in sunnyvale where police have begun interviewing the lone survivor. terry mcsweeney is live as you said this is not a community that deals with a lot of violent crime. >> reporter: they haven't had a homicide for five months in this city of 135,000 people. a short time ago i was talking to a captain he was heing me there is nothing to worry about for -- he was telling me there is nothing to worry about for the people on nectarine street. there are no police officers at the scene of this double homicide from last night. last night a lot of people out there on nectarine. the report came in 7:45, police received a report of two people shot inside the house. someone saw the bodies it wasn't a report of gunshots heard it was a report of two people shot. three people lived at that house, two adults and 18-year-old. the two adults are deceased. the teen has been talking to police throughout the night. the captain says last thing he knew that the teenager was still talking to police. last night police would only say this about the shootings. >> upon our arriv

for years, a mother cared for her son in this sunnyvale home. tonight neighbors are mourning their deaths. >> it appears the mother shot the 22-year-old son and shot herself. >> reporter: a park ranger came home last night to find his wife and son dead in his son's bedroom. >> he's a wonderful man. he's got to be heartbroken. i just -- i don't have words. >> reporter: the couple's 22-year-old son george has severe autism. he had attended morgan autism center in san jose since he was six. the executive director described him as a delightful, easy going young man who never spoke. she says his mother pulled him out of the program in december. deciding that she did not want him to transition to the adult program. the executive director also says the staff is devastated. at pacific autism center for education, executive director kurt olf says that parents of autistic children feel overwhelmed. >> the toll it has on parents is that isolation, that depression associated with being boxed in and not seeing a world outside of the boundaries of the house.
