tahoe 54 record high. and the driest december for reno one of the driest ever for tahoe and of course we came in at the second and third driest all over the place. we start a new month. maybe a new weather pattern. had a little system there knocking on the door. it will give us a little clouds and fog and haze. a little breeze up in the hills. south wind up ahead of it. the biggest impact will be cooler weather. a few returns on radar. again this is pretty high based stuff. i doubt much happens. the ground is dry. the atmosphere is dry. this will juice things up a little bit. give us a lot of clouds and not much else. 30s and 40s. at the surface we're even with the cloud cover. some 30. the system will continue to weaken as it runs into the ridge of high pressure. the low is ejecting northeast. that will take the energy away from it. cloudy skies. again north bay or the coast in line for maybe a few light showers. i will say it but i doubt much happens. cloudy, cooler. a lot of fog out there. 50s and 60s o

in the sierra, nevada it has been raining in the tahoe area all day long. heavily raining right now. as you can see here some of this has switched over to snow. i want to show you a time lapse from our heavenly camera. 8300 foot elevation. yes, we picked up a little snow, but it is way high up there. freezing level is 8,000 feet. most is falling in the form of rain. and rain is exactly what we got in the sunset district. this photo was posted by susie l. this was a view from san francisco. it is rattling the windows in livermore. she is talking about the wind. and another one, the wind is blowing might have patio umbrella off the table. a lot of people talking about how heavy the rain has been tonight. the rain and wind will be heavy at times for a couple more hours. more snow for the sierra. the next storm arrives on sunday. not as intense. this is the strongest of the three storms. this is the second one. the third one is due in on sunday. just watch out for the heavy rain and wind the next couple hours. and then things will wind down. i want to show you

we are 15 degrees above the seasonal average in tahoe. if you will certainly want to bundle up, the overnight lows could get pretty chilly. your 7 day around the bay forecast shows a lot of sunshine to look forward to, mild conditions for the weekend and the start of the next work week but still holding on to some pretty frigid lowe's with temperatures rise above freezing. >>george: we're continuing to monitor great traffic conditions. we are not seeing any delays or hot spots. traffic is much lighter than usual, even later the what we saw yesterday. on the bay bridge, westbound, there are no backups or delays. i am not even sore the metering lights have been triggered. if they have they are not accounting for any problems. on the san mateo bridge, a smooth and easy trip with no delays for your ride on 101 at highway 92. 101, the golden gate bridge started with four visibility because of fog. that is no longer the case. looking at the traffic maps, the east bay writer is a late free. 680, 880, picking up just a little bit of slowing on 10

but they had record heat in tahoe again today. the temperature in the lake tahoe area, 58 degrees. it is hard to get snow when you have record warmth. temperatures in the 40s and the 50s right now, and the fog is not quite as widespread as what it was like this morning visibility in most areas is doing just fine. san jose is reporting so fog down to 5 miles. so do look out for patches of fog overnight tonight. mostly sunny and mild tomorrow. still no rain over the next seven days. so it is just to give you an idea what is going on. here is what is preventing the rain from getting here. it is a ridge of high pressure, and it is a strong blocking ridge. it is really diverting all of the storms to the north of us. the jet stream fast moving upper level winds and taking the storms that look healthy over the pacific and stealing them well into canada which is why we are not getting any rain or snow. and as we look at the extended computer models, there is no sign this ridge will break down anytime soon. no indications of wet weather coming any anytime soon. it has been dry winter so far
