tara moriarty who has been out there this morning for the past hour and tara, what can you tell us about what is going on there thousand? >> reporter: swat teams have just arrived and we are not going to be able to show you the actual scene because police have asked us not to. we know the suspect is hold up inside of his home and this has been going on now this standoff for therely nine hour -- for nearly nine hours. it started off as a domestic violence dispute. the man whom they believe is in his 30s made threats against his girlfriend. she did get out safely but the suspect barricaded himself inside the home. during the night he did come out on the balcony and yelled at officers. he could be armed and that is why police are taking such precautions. it's believed he may have held a hostage at some point. we did meet three men that lived across the street from the suspect and they were evacuated from the homes. they have not been able to get inside their house all night. they slept in the car and left for work about an hour and a half ago. police quarantined off the block from the suspects home. we will be out here all morning and of course we will let you know how things develop. live from san francisco i'm tara moriarty back to you. >> thank you tara. >>> part of the beautiful california coastline near santa barbara is covered in oil this morning. thousands of gallons of crude oil spilled into the pacific ocean before that leak was finally plugged. ktvu fox 2 brian flores is in our newsroom. you've got the very latest on the emergency cleanup. >> i do. good morning, to you. the operator of the pipeline first announced 21,000 gallons of crude oil spilled into the ocean but the coast guard says it's just an estimate and there are concerns the spill could be much more. a pipeline ruptured just west of santa barbara. and then oil went into a drain that runs into the pacific. the spill left a thick coat of black tar stretching four miles wide. winds could send the oil another tour miles south. the leak was eventually stopped three hours later. >> the beach was just covered in thick black crude. the rocks were covered. the waves that were coming in were just black oil. >> the beach and local fishe

was then arrested when the plane landed at lax. a couple weeks after that she was arrested in phoenix for trying to get past security and loitering in a baggage claim area. recently she was detained at a florida airport after getting on a plane in minnesota and flying to florida without a ticket. >>> in berkeley four teenage girls were arrested this week following a bold daytime robbery. but it was not police who got to the suspects first. instead it was a group of quick thinking neighbors. police say that on sunday afternoon several witnesses saw four teenage girls beating and robbing a cal student at the corner of claremont and brook side. a neighbor who identified himself as jack saw the whole thing. >> they were punching her in the head and jumped into this white van thinking they of homes for sale here. about 35 or so in this little geographic area. and so that is what is driving the prices up but at this time they have gone way up. here are the latest numbers from the real estate information service core logic. in san mateo county the medium price of a home in april reached an all-time high. it's almost $1.2 million. a record was set in santa clara county. the medium price tag is $105,000. and alameda county it rose as well. and in contra costa county the medium home price went up to $490 how long. very good market to sell because prices are going up. for buyers it's becoming more of a challenge. they want to buy before the interest rates go up. what is difficult is the bidding wars that are happening. that is a trend we are seeing for awhile. people are closed down and also a bart shut down that will lead to delays as well. good morning, alex. >> reporter: a lot of trouble here. if you're sticking around this memorial day weekend here in town, be aware the freeways especially will be quite busy. that is because the san mateo bridge where we are it will be closed for repaving work starting at 10:00 tonight all the way through 5:00 a.m. on monday morning. drivers will have to be detoured all the way around this closure and that will lead to serious backups on other freeways in the area. the san mateo bridge was shut down a couple weeks ago for similar construction working traffic was really just a mess. especially over on the bay bridge. along san mateo bridge being shut down l are major bart closure. on saturday and sunday there will be no service from the fruitvale to coliseum stations. instead a bus bridge will be carrying riders between those two locations. . bart wants people to know they are closing the free monday to daly city line for the entire day on saturday as well. so that means the passengers heading over into san francisco will need to transfer to a dublin daly city train in the east bay. and because of those two closures, it will take a lot longer than usual to get where you need to go. bart doesn't seem to be a great option to get into san francisco. the freeways will be extra busy bust because of tara moriarty is in berkeley right now where that car crashed early this morning. tara. >> reporter: yeah not only did the guy steal a car, lead officers on a chase and crashed he called 911 and asked authorities if they could simply stop looking for them. right now we are in berkeley where he ended up crashing into a silver suv around midnight. that suv flipped. the victim taken to the hospital with injuries. during the chase that was when the suspect decided to call 911. >> he related that he knew the police were following him. that the helicopter was above and if the helicopter would stop following that he would then stop his car because of the safety of the public our helicopter continued with it it will up that way they could alert on coming motorists of the danger. >> reporter: once the suspect started driving the right way officers were able to chase him by car. they city the car was stolen out -- they say the car was stolen out of martinez. they have called off that search. the suspect he is described as a white map with short hair, medium build between 20-25 years old. live from berkeley i'm tararty ktvu fox 2 news. >>> amtrak is backed up. over the weekend amtrak was ordered to expand the use of a speed control system near that crash site. federal investigators say the train was speeding at 106 miles an hour when it headed into a curb. authorities were also trying to figure out if some object that struck the engines windshield had anything to do with that derailment. it's not uncommon for trains in that area to be hit by rocks, bricks, or bottles. >> that is exactly what we want to determine. we are looking at everything at this point. >> now a funeral service was held yesterday in hayward for a former bay area resident killed in that accident. mr. gilani was a married father of two. >>> alex savidge is joining us to talk about how crews got that fast moving fire under control. >> reporter: firefighters managed to get this fire under control in 45 minutes or so but there were tense moments last night. pretty close call. you could see for people who live here in this area. i'm

tara moriarty, is there live and is the road still closed, tara? >> reporter: it still is. i don't know if we can pan over here to the left. you can see that traffic is sort of backing up here on the side streets and the muni line is also's affecting the 14. that's experiencing delays. there were a lot of stops here on the street. this is the block is shut down here on san jose. there's quite a bit of diesel on the roadway. that rainbow looking street. if we pan to the left, you can see where city crews are out with sand and they are trying to make sure they soak up the diesel. we know the median is where the dump truck crashed. it also crashed into amy -- into a minivan with three people inside. the impact of the crash was so great, the van slid 100 feet crashing into a parked car. all three people in the minivan were rushed to san francisco general with minor to seer yours injuries. the -- -- serious jrgs. an officer tried to perform a traffic stop on the dump truck. police say he tried to ram the patrol car and led police on a four-mile chase through three cities. now city crews have a big cleanup on their hands. >> there's been a diesel spill from the dump truck. a lot of fuel has been spilled on the streets. the investigation team is out doing our thing and we're continuing to monitor the investigation as far as the accident and we'll go from there. >> florinay at san jose will be shut down for another hour. they believe about 75 gallons possibly stilled. again, the muni line, the 14 is being affected by this. the suspect could face charges of assault with a deadly weapon on an officer, evading an officer and possession of a stolen vehicle. quite a few charges. we're waiting for a mugshot to let you know who the suspect is. in the meantime, we would definitely advise avoiding this particular intersection. live from daly city, i'm tara moriarty, back to you. >> all right. we'll check back for an update. thank you. >>> san francisco police are asking the public's help in finding the person who maliciously attacked and elderly woman on mother's day in chinatown. the victim a 77-year-old grandmother, is now in a coma. her family worries she will never wake up. she was exiting a bus ten days ago when she was attacked by another woman. the grandmother was not robbed. just beaten. a good samaritan later helped her to the curb and the grandmother was able to make it home. but three days after the attack, the victim lost consciousness. >> the key is we need to speak to the good samaritan that helped her off the bus to sit down and recover. he might have witnessed the ent tire incident. or if there's any other witnesses that can help narrow down the field of search. >> this is a very several salt. very severe damage and injury. and she doesn't deserve that and not only that, she suffer. >> and complicating matters, is police

herman plaza. a woman shot video. she said people were using hammers and skateboards and one witness said it looked like a riot. four people were hurt. two were taken by ambulance. not clear how it started but there are reports that skate boarders were fighting. >>> san francisco prosecutors say drugs may have been involved in the death at the 31- year-old bomb at the chinese theater. this is the photo -- woman at the chinese theater. this is a photo of her. officered arrested 48-year-old harris rosenbloom on suspicion of homicide. but now prosecutors are declining to press charges while they await the autopsy. rosenbloom has been trying to renovate the old theater. >>> a wild police clays in the east bay came to a dramatic end after a homeowner caught the suspect tried to hide in his garage. police say the chase started on highway 4 in antioch early yesterday morning. the suspect drove on a regional trail and his car got stuck. so he took off. police searched the area but couldn't find him. that's when a homeowner got an uneasy feeling and decided to look in his garage where he found the suspects hiding. he said the suspect attacked him with a tool from a workbench and ut put him in a chokes it hold -- and put him in a chokehold. the son helped him. and police arrested the man when they showed up. >>> thieves are, taking you -- are targeting you. there are reports of all four wheels stolen from vehicles. a fire specialist says the more valuable the tires are, the more attractive they are to thief. >> with the tires and wheels come out on new cars, it's not uncommon to pay $1,000 for tires. >> now, car experts say you can put locks on your rims. they say that's not a guarantee your wheels won't be stolen by somebody who has the know-how and the -- and the tools. they say that could slow them down and they could move onto somebody else's car. >>> let's check in with sal. some cars are not moving at all eastbound. that's not the commute direction. that can throw people off a great deal. >> that's right. this is eastbound 4 just outside of martinez near the franklin canyon golf course. there is a point and oil spill. you can see it down there. the traffic is backed up from highway 80 to the point where the chp is not gonna let anyone on eastbound highway 4. why would they? all of these cars are stuck. all of these cars and trucks are stuck until they clean it up. the only good news, is that the caltrans was able to contain the paint and the oil and into the let it go down drains -- and not let it go down drains. but the traffic impact is horrible on eastbound highway 4. look at all of that backed up traffic. these people are not going anywhere. it's not quite backed up to highway 80 but i think people might be surprised by seeing this backup. it's not getting through at all. it's a sig-alert. let's -- westbound is not affected. this is the westbound bay bridge. 15, 20 minutes before you get on the span. 580 westbound, slow winter stormwatch starts tomorrow morning. 4 to 8. maybe a foot of snow. this all comes together. snow level around 5500 feet which is an absolute blessing here and a bonus in may. you can see the saying how deeply saddened we are for the loss of life that occurred on the train last evening. we -- our first and major priority will be the customers and employees who have been affected by this tragedy. we've established and 1-800- number which i know has -- an 800 number which i know has been established. a thorough investigation will take place from this incident led by the ntsb. amtrak will do everything to assist in the investigation and has brought every resource in the company's ability to support that effort. this is the amtrak family. we are very saddened by what's occurred and will do everything in our power to work with the may earoffice, the -- mayor's office, the ntsb and all authorities in dealing with this tragedy. >> you've been listening live to a press conference they are just about to reopen. i'm reading this here. the left lane is now open and right lane will be open in 15 minutes. that's pretty good. this is a look at highway 4 live from skyfox westbound as you come up to the billow pass grade. we -- willow pass grade. we had an accident. traffic is slow. when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza, it's backed up for 15, 20 minutes. no major problems. i want to take a look at highway one coming in -- at highway 101 coming into san francisco. it's slow. >>> there's new information about the deadly amtrak train in philadelphia. investigators are interviewing the engineer and conductor. they are looking into the passenger accounts that the train may have been going too fast when this flew off the tracks. joel waldman has more. it looks like this will be a long job to get it cleaned up. >> reporter: disturbs news out of the news kf -- disturbing news out of the news conference. some passengers are unaccounted for. they've just brought in -- amtrak has brought in heavy machinery to try to raise and lift some of these cars here to begin this rescue/recovery effort. >> this is a nightmare. it can't be happening. >> reporter: train 188 was heading from washington, d.c. to new york city when it derailed. the impact mangled the front of the train tearing cars apart and causing others to completely overturned. >> i heard like a big bang. it was a big bang and then -- it caught my attention. helicopters and everything just started coming. >> reporter: the cause of the derailment is unknown but the area where it happened has a big curve and passengers say it was going in the curve when it began to shake. >> we were in the front seat and this huge red suitcase came flying at me. our train was on the side. it pushed me on the side of the train. >> reporter: the train was carrying 238 passengers and five crew members. one of those on board was patrick murphy, a former u.s. congressman. he described what happened after the crash. >> i flew to the other side and landed on my head. and then i was -- i checked my body parts. i was okay. there was people who were -- they didn't care about anybody else. they were staying off the -- any were getting off the train. >> it's an absolute disastrous mess. >> reporter: now. some good news out of the -- now, some good news out of the news conference, they've got the black box. they will send that box to washington, d.c. for further analysis. >> i understand that the ntsb and federal investigators are already at the scene. is there any possibility about any -- maybe terrorism or does it just look like it was an accident at this point? >> reporter: right now it looks like a complete accident. the fbi was quick to come out last night and said that they don't see any link whatsoever to terrorism. passengers on the train say they felt that the train took a curve too fast, the cars on the train began to shake. at that point was the moment of impact. we saw the the crash happened around 8:15 last night at 6th and folsom street. investigators say two cars collided which caused one of the cars to hit a nearby bicyclist sending that that bicyclist over a fence. >>> some children who were vaccinated in the south bay, they may have to be re- vaccinated. the palo alto medical foundation's pediatric clinic is sending 4300 letters to parents saying a faulty refrigerator was used to store vaccines at a clinic in san jose. that refrigerator made the vaccines too cold. it may have reduced the effectiveness of the vaccines. >> what that has done, it's put into question the effectiveness of the vaccines we gave, not the safety. there's no safety concern here whatsoever. >> the vaccines were apparently given to children between february of last year and march of this year. the clinic says it has a lotline set up for parent -- hotline set up for parents who have questions and it's replacing those refrigerators. >>> restrictions on blood donations on gay and bisexual men may soon be eased. the fda is recommending those donations be accepted for those who have not had sex for one year. that's a big change from the -- from the current lifetime ban. it also comes after advances have been made. the human rights campaign says the new recommendation is an improvement but it's still stigmatizing gay and bisexual men. >>> 7:39. the berkeley city council has unanimously approved an ordinance requiring cell phone retailers to warn customers that their phones could expose them to radiation. supporters say most people don't know that their cell phones already come with a warning but they say the warning is just not in plain sight. the proposed warning states if a person carries a phone in their pocket or directly against their body, they may be exposed to radio frequency levels that exceed federal guidelines. >> this is not about telling people not to use cell phones. it's just saying, here is the information you should know. and if you know it, makes your own decision about what to do. >> i don't think it's necessary because we don't have any concluesives evidence about it -- conclusive evidence about it. maybe if we had scientific data, i'm sure but not now. >> wireless carriers are expected to file a legal challenge. >>> the city is calling for the mcdonald's franchise owner to clean things up at the haight- ashbury location. here's more. >> reporter: well, good morning. city attorney dennis herrera says that crime at this particular mcdonald's in the haight-ashbury neighborhood has been happening for years. in fact, san francisco police have been called to this location more than a thousand times for things like drug dealing, fights and auto thefts. he's calling officials to make changes or possibly face legal action. mcdonald's on stanian street has seen more than its fair share of crime. in a detailed complaint and two- page letter directed to the ceo, the city attorney detailed the crime occurring on the property for things like fights or assaults, drinking alcohol in public, two dog attacks and auto burglaries. drug dealing remains a major problem here as well. the city has recovered lsd, marijuana and mushrooms from dealers on the property. herrera says he's tried contacting the franchise owner but says the owner has refused to do anything about it. people we poke to said -- we poke to said it's a problem. >> they have -- every time i go by, they offer to tell me weed, every day. i see the people smoking the weed by the mcdonald's. >> reporter: he wants them to implement better security measures at the mcdonald's. he says police resources can be better used elsewhere. he also says mcdonald's is on hook for making the changes. if they don't, he says there could be possible legal the macarthur maze. it's a 45-minute drive time. a lot of that is because of the slow traffic in richmond heading west toward the berkeley area. you can see the traffic is actually doing okay as you drive down to the macarthur maze. when up get to the bay bridge toll plaza, it's backed up for a 15, 20-minute delay before you make it onto the bridge. 580 is still slow in livermore and pleasanton. and in san jose, northbound 101, traffic is very slow into mountain view. 85 and 280 are moderate. let's go to steve. >>> we do have mostly cloudy skies. it's cold. it's chilly. there is a pretty good breeze kicking up. the low offshore is spinning in low, mid-level clouds and that breeze is onshore. westerly or southerly component for some. not as bad as yesterday. you can see the cloud cover are caught, they are very dangerous. >> the intruders took off running away after one of the women got hold of a cell phone and camed for help. if you recognize the men involved, call police. >>> a mother in antioch had to make a heartwrenching decision during her own terrifying counter with an intruder. she said she took this photo of a stranger standing inside her back door monday night. she said when she asked the man what he was doing, he said it was his house. the man went upstairs where her 4-year-old was. she called 911. >> my response, i know what to do but i had the police with me and they are telling me don't go upstairs. don't do this. don't do that. so i was following instructions from the police. so brave and calm, she didn't panic. >> when police arrived, the 4- year-old very chilly. a lot of low clouds. high clouds. the rain will be tomorrow morning. it looks like most of that will favor areas to the south. temperatures won't warm up. even under most of these -- even under these mostly sunny skies. there will be a some late tonight, and tomorrow but it may give southern california more rain than us. especially as we head to friday and saturday. they could have a lot of rain down there. 50s slow to recover on the 40s. 20 miles per our out of the west -- per hour out of the west at fairfield. maybe a few breaks. the low clouds have no problem forming. we keep the cloud cover in place. below normal temps, coast bay and inland. we'll cloud it up again. a lot of 60s which from this time of year is very rare. all right, sal. what do you have? >> we're looking at the south bay. we'll still look at the east bay, too. we'll start with 280 northbound as you get up to highway 17. we have slow traffic there. but i would say 280 is your best bet here, belter than some of the other -- better than some of the other freeways. you can see 280 is slowing through 17 but it does get better by the time you reach the lawrence expressway. 85 is slow from 87 to saratoga and 101 is sold out from the capitol expressway up to mountain view. 101 on the peninsula, moderate to heavy traffic in palo alto. 280 is better than 101 as you head south. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza, that's backed up for a little bit of a wait. 15, 20 minutes. nothing out of the ordinary when you get on the bridge, it's moderate into san francisco. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. >>> this morning, the chp is investigating a deadly crash neesh the gilroy outlet mall -- near the gilroy outlet mall. four people died when the car they were riding in on leavesly road rolled into a ravine. janine de la vega is there. you say there have been many crashes on that road. >> reporter: yeah, there have been. that's what officers tell me. and we're here on leavesly road. about a quarter mile from where the accident happened here, the speed limit is 50 miles an hour. authorities are trying to determine whether the car involved in the accident was traveling too fast. officers tell us the crash occurred sometime around 10:30 last night. this ford mustang was traveling eastbound on leavesly when the driver lost control going around a turn. the driver flew in the air, hit a try creek bed and -- dry creek bed and went into the ravine below. all four passengers were dead but the male driver survived. >> probably once a week collision there but not as seriously as this one usually. >> it's very tragic. we need to find our way to teach our youth, to get it through to them that they can't drive fast. these things are going to happen. >> reporter: out of the passengers who died three were female. one was male. officers say they appear to be under 25 years old. the chp says the male driver who survived was wearing a seat belt. he has major injuries but is expected to live. authorities are at the hospital trying to see if they can interview the driver to get more information on what happened. it's unknown if alcohol played a factor in the accident. there are still a lot of questions that need to be answered. >> such a tragedy for young lives lost. thank you. >>> about 40 minutes ago, we brought you a live news conference from philadelphia about last night's deadly amtrak train derailment. michael nutter confirmed at least six people have been killed in the crash. more than 200 others were treated for a variety of injuries. some are in critical condition. now, the rescue crews there still looking for people who may still be trapped under this wreckage. the train's black box, it's been found. it will now be analyzed as part of the ntsb investigation. >> with the six confirmed key seized -- deceased, we are heartbroken and what's happened here. we've not experienced anything like this in motd -- modern times. >> passengers took cell phone video and photos from inside the train. they are describing a violent, chaotic scene. passengers being thrown from their seats, luggage flying around through the train cars. now, the train was going from expected to get a proposal to change the rent control laws. the city already has rent control. but it only applies to apartments built before 1979. that covers about 43,000 apartment complexes and to decide the fate of the boston marathon bomber. jurors are deciding whether dzhokhar tsarnaev should live out the rest of his life in prison, or if he should be put to death. during closing arguments, prosecutors called tsarnaev a remorse-free terrorist, but the defense argues he deserves a chance at redemption. this is the same jury that convicted tsarnaev last month. by now they have experienced work with each other. because of that, legal experts say they will likely be able to reach a decision very soon. >>> a former san francisco political consultant charged with possessing and distributing child pornography is due back in court next month. enrique pierce pled not guilty yesterday to six felon gnu charges. now, he was taken back into custody after a judge raised his bail to $400,000 at the request of prosecutors. they said the pornographic images he possessed included children as young as infants. the attorney says prosecutors are taking this case too far, and there was no evidence presented pierce ever had any contact with any of the victims. >> i think it's incredibly unfair to raise the bail after someone meets the scheduled bay that the city judges have set, appears in court as required andlated, but he'll be posting the bail and getting out. we'll be fighting the charges. >> now, pierce faces five felony child pornography charges and a sixth felony count company would have to pay for the station. it would include the label "usda process severed." genetically modified seeds are engineered in labs to have certain traits, like being resistant to possible thunderstorms. some areas may not get much at all, a trace to 5/100ths. i it will you, though, we are taking a back soot to totals that will be up in the sierra and northern california. i saw 2 inches over l.a. between now and saturday morning. that's a lot of rain for them in may. any time of year, that's a lot of rain. you can see little spins in the atmosphere. i love those. mostly looking for thieves who used a stolen car to smash into a blooming dale's department store. the burglars made off with jewelry in a short amount of time. georgia mean de la vega joins us with this surveillance video. just an incredible crime. georgia mean? >> reporter: i do want to mention, as soon as we pulled up, we did notice security patrolling around. it doesn't appear they were on this side of the mall when that group of thieves just plowed into the bloomingdale's here. take a look at this you. it is pretty dramatic. you can see this red jeep cherokee backs into the doors of blooming dale's on the,l camino side of the store. this happened about 4:00 a.m. yesterday. then you see the three thieves all wearing black hood days run in. they get to work quickly, using a sharp object to smash through the glass case holding jewelry and watches. the thieves run away and hop into the jeep, where a getaway driver is waiting for them. police found that the jeep was dumped later in the morning on palo alto avenue. it had been reported stolen the day before we're hoping some of the stuff we got from the vehicle and hopefully with better surveillance from that area -- sanford has several video cameras, surveillance in that area that we might be ail to get more information. >> reporter: investigators say the burglars were inside for just over 1 minute, but they made off with a lot if expensive goods. ktvu took still photos inside the store appeared six cases were hit. police are looking be into the possibility it may be connected to another burglary that took place at a camera store in february. in that case, a mini van drove through the front door, and thieves made off with equipment. police are looking for any tips on this latest case. they don't know who these thieves are. they hope perhaps the video and evidence they collect from that stolen car may help bring in some tips. pam? . >> certainly sounds like they could get some more tips. thank you, georgia mean. >>> it is 5:34 now. and petaluma police are hoping someone will recognize a man who may be tide to two burglaries in that city. they were both caught on surveillance video as well. take a look. the most recent happened at a biotech company on mcdonald boulevard on april 29th. police say the man went inside that business and put on some cover alls he found laying around apparently so he could blend in with other employees who were working at the time, and he stole three laptops. a few days earlier, a man with a similar description was caught on surveillance video stealing nine cell phones. this was at an a and t store. he's only described at this point to be in his late 30s, early 40s with thick dark hair. >>> time 5:5. starting tomorrow, if you live in pleasanton and you use too much water, you're going to be hit with penalties. the city asked people to reduce their water use by 25% compared with the year 2013 and the public works department says most people comply. but now those who don't, you're going to be hit with a fine. the amount will vary. it will depend on how much the customer went over that limit and for how long. the bills could double, even triple. >>> also the city of pal low alto adopted new restrictions this week to meet the 24% city-wide water use reduction by june 1st. landscape watering is now limited to just two days a week. there are some competitions for things like edible gardens and for grassy areas at parks, schools, and other public places. >>> recycled water is normally just dumped in the bay. it's being given away for free at the contra costa county sanitary district. all you have to do is go get it. now, some pretty savvy homeowners who want to coop their homes lush and green, they are taking advantage of this giveaway. jerry liberty of ms. says he turns his hose on twice a week with no regrets because he regularly fils a 275-gallon tank with the free water. liberty says he got the idea from a friend. >> after church, we went to dinner with some friends, and we were talking about the water shortage and stuff, and somebody mentioned they have the recycled water. so i checked online, went over, and got certified. now i can do it. >> in order to stave off some suspicious neighbors, homeowners who use the water put up signs on their lawns, letting people know, hey, they're using recycled water. district officials say the program's pretty popular. in just is first 12 days of this month, the district has given away more than a quarter million gallons of recycled water. >>> the driver and only survivor of that single car crash that killed four people in gill roy now faces drunk driving charges. investigators say 24-year-old anthony inbronen could also be charged with vehicular manslaughter. he was driving four friends on leasey road near the gilroy outlet stores late tuesday night. he failed to -- his car rolled into a dry creek bed. all four passengers died, including three girls chore set to graduate from high school next month. >> knowing that she had three weeks left, she would have graduated with us. she should have been there with us. >> the girls all went to different high schools in the gill roy school district. grief counselors helping the students and school staff cope with their death. >>> your time 5:38. a ronin park man accused of abducting two of his daughters, he's due to enter a plea this afternoon. forty-five-year-old everyett wreath obtained an emergency custody order, and picked up his 11 and 9-year-old daughters last week. mother had the court rescind that order, which returned custody of the children back to her. wreath became the target of a manhunt along the west coast. he brought the girls back, and he surrendered last friday. he's facing charges that include kidnapping and child cruelty. >>> president obama is hosting a special summit today at camp david for the leaders of six gulf nations. here's some video. the president welcoming the leaders to the white house last night to a dinner. president obama wants to reassure the gulf leaders negotiations with iran over its nuclear program will not -- their security. leaders worry now, this scam involves two contractors. they show up to a house to fix a fence. but actually, they are robbing older single women. investigators say the men hit six times in a single week this month. they tell the residents they were called by a landlord to work on a finance. one victim tells us, while one man distracted her in the garden, the other one slipped in the house and stole jewelry given these robers, they did some research ahead of time, find out when the victims are home alone. the are advising residents, contact a neighbor and the fencing company before you let anyone inside your home. >>> a natural gas pipeline that runs under the city of san carlos will operate at lower than normal pressure after problems were found in that line. according to "the daily news," p t and, made emergency repairs on the line last week. the same line had problems in the past. in 2013 the cpuc fined pg and e more than $13 million for failing to november the commission about errors in the ewe actuality's record. the santa clara city council is saying no thanks to $3 million in donations for the san francisco 49ers. the team had offered the money to be used for kids sports. team executives said there were no strings attached to the gift, but council members said it just didn't feel right. last month, the 49ers offered to pay $15 for a long-term lease on three soccer fields. the team wanted to use the land for parking during incidents tat stadium. opponents said that would have left thousands of children with no place to play soccer, and the council rejected that deal >>> barry . >> sound good. well done, pam. >>> time is 5:50. happening today, thousands of bay area commuters are trading in the dress shoes for sneakers. this morning, thaw oar joining the 21st annual bike to workday. ktvu fox two's tara4th street bar station in san francisco, and i understand hundreds of cyclists are getting ready to start pedaling, terrin. >> reporter: there's going to be a lot of people with helmet hairs when they arrive at work. at the stroke of 6:00, this bunch of people is actually expected to take off and head down to peninsula. some of them, it locks like, are actually getting ready here. we are told that it's actually a heck of a ride. about 42 miles each way. event organizers expect between a hundred and 200,000 people to pedal to work today despite the forecasted rain. riders can stop at one of 400 energizer stations set up throughout the bay area where they can grab snacks, drinks, gifts -- helmet lights. event sponsors say bike to work not only helps the environment by reducing the carbon emissions, but it promotes good health. >> cycling is a great exercise. it's heart-healthy. it's low stress on your joints the getting a bike ride in the morning is outstanding way to start the day, and

tara moriarty joins us live from outside of the family's home and tara, boy, the family must be so relieved that they are back and safe. >> reporter: definitely. when the children made it into the arms of grandma, there were tears of joy. very emotional. we're not sure if they are home. we haven't seen any movement at the family house. we think they may still be up in the sierra. we know family members went up there last night. nicholas vlahos and his son and daughter were found after 8:00 outside of downieville, northeast of grass valley. the trio was rescued from a blackhawk helicopter. it was part of a large-scale search not far from the camp seat where they were last seen tuesday morning. >> they've been airlifted out. so they've been evacuated by helicopter. and they will be flown up and reunited. qlism -- i'm very excited. glad to have them back. >> reporter: crews found the family hiking not far from their black pickup truck. this is a picture from instagram. authorities did tell us that it most likely became disabled and that's how the family became stranded. a video from the helicopter rescue should be released today. a couple of bug bites, a couple of scratches but overall in good health and the mom on a trip to kentucky had flown back and said she is quite relieved and will have a very nice mother's day. taraher's day to have the family all together. thank you. >>> a police standoff near downtown san jose is over. it began around 6:30 last night when a woman called police to say a man pointed a gun at her inside a home. she was able to escape and told police the man was still inside with several weapons. streets around the area of north 12th street between julian and washington were blocked off. people living nearby were asked to evacuate their homes. the standoff lasted all through the night. police say they were not in a rush and were waiting for the right time to make contact with the man. >> we're always trained to be careful, especially when there are weapons involved. this call was no exception. we took our time. we were very careful. we call out the merge unit and they are the ones who took over and were able to establish contact with the suspect and take him into custody. >>> police say the man was arrested around 4:15 this morning without incident. they searched his home and found

tara moriarty joining us live in santa clara. what is he charged with this time tara? >> reporter: well, this time it's for vie violating a restraining order. he says that mcdonald was at the particular residence with a defense investigator to gather pictures for evidence. we have some pictures to show you from monday. this was shortly after his arrest earlier on child endangerment and domestic violence charges. he allegedly kicked in a door and attacked a woman while holding a baby at 4:00 in the morning. the chicago bears released him after less than three months on the team. now, yesterday he had another incident. joining me live is lieutenant kurt clark with the santa clara police department to tell us what happened yesterday. >> yes. yesterday about 3:00 our investigators were following up on the case involving ray mcdonald on monday where he was arrested for child endangerment and domestic violence. during that follow-up, we learned ray mcdonald was in violation of a restraining order at a residence in santa clara and subsequently he was arrested for that offense. >> reporter: where did you find him? was it immediately after? is it take a while to find him? >> it was shortly after the violation occurred. he was arrested in santa clara. >> reporter: what happens from here? >> from here he will be given his day in court to explain the violation of that order. >> reporter: all right. thank you so much for joining us this morning. we appreciate it. back in august you may recall mcdonald was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence against his then fiancee but charges were not filed. it is unclear whether or not the woman involved in this case is the same woman. also in december san jose place said they were investigating mcdonald's for a sexual assault charge. a lot of incidents obviously. we will try to get a little bit more information and talk to mcdonald's attorney. taraou. >> thank you. >>> 7:36 this morning. a veteran st. clair police officer is in trouble with the law. santa clara police officer kit nguyen has been on the force for 25 years. investigators say that earlier this month a loss prevention officer at a target store in san jose saw nguyen steal a $250 smartwatch. he was off duty at the time when he was arrested. nguyen had the watch, wire cutters, and a magnetic key to disable the watch's anti-theft lock. shoppers outside the target were stunned. >> you think a police officer is held to a higher standard. so, you know, probably he does need some help and he probably needs to be off the force while he is getting help. >> when one of our employees get arrest ford shoplift -- arrested for shoplifting, it's a step back. it saddened us here. >> the santa clara police department has placed nguyen on paid administrative leave. he is charged with petty theft and using burglary tools. >>> two highway patrol officers on bicycles arrested two men su

tara moriarty is live on the scene where police have surrounded the domestic violence suspect. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. it's been about two hours since s.w.a.t. teams first arrived. we saw them make a move to go the home where the man is holed off. then they retreated and we think they are regrouping. we can't show you the scene. we can show you the building that looks similar to the one the man is holed up in. police have asked us not to show the actual scene for fear it might compromise safety. we're at sherwin and sunnydale where police have been trying to coax the suspect out for 11 hours. it starts out at a domestic violence situation at 8:15 last night. officers say the man who they believe is in his 30s made threats against his girlfriend. she got out safely. the suspect then barricaded himself in the home. during the night. he did come out on the balcony and yelled at officers. he could be armed. that's why police are taking such precautions. we met three men. they were evacuated from their home last night. they had not been able to get inside. they slept in the car and then went to work. police have cordoned off about a block in each direction from the suspect's home and again we're sort of looking down the street. i can sort of describe to you what i see, which is a lot of patrol cars and a couple of -- there's the bomb squad, tactical unit, two tactical units and an ambulance. we're not able to show you the actual scene because police have asked us not to. live from san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, back to you. >> thank you. >>> a 6-year-old south bay girl is safe while two people accused of kidnapping her are in custody. the reported abduction prompted an amber alert overnight. authorities say these two pictures -- these two suspects on the screen, 39-year-old maurice cheadle and 35-year-old dawn atkisson took the 6-year- old girl from her home near cleveland and olive eave -- avenues. an hour ago, the officers located girl and she is safe . she was found at a home, 80 miles northeast of san jose. police say the girl came out of the home with cheadle who surrendered peacefully. he's the ex-boyfriend's of the child's mother but not the biological dad. >>> steve glazer defeated susan bonia for the state senate seat. with all precincts reporting, glazer has 54% of the vote and bonia has 45%. she's a former teacher. glazer made headlines when he said he wanted to ban b.a.r.t. workers from striking. glazer will fill the district state senate seat, seat number 7. he will ha

tara moriarty is in napa this morning where residents are split over what this earthquake means. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. that's right. some people say, you know, it was stressful. it was a reminder of last year's big one, the 6.0 that caused so much damage here in the city of name. but others say people need to stop stressing out. it was only a 4.1. geologists say this quake was not centered on the same faultline as the one from last summer. but it could have been triggered by it, they say. most people felt light to moderate shaking that lasted about 20 seconds. no reports of injuries or serious damage. many people were out at restaurants dining or watching the warriors' game. >> when it started to shake, it was like boom and my girlfriend is in the bathtub. she's like oh, my god, it's the big one again. she did call it, she said it was a 4.3. the news said it was it was a 4.2 and -- it was a 4.2 and then it was a 4.1. we're so used to this in napa. it's not a big deal. >> reporter: people felt it down in san francisco and the peninsula and all the way out to the east bay to the sacramento valley apparently. live from napa, i'm taraptured pipeline in santa barbara county as i it will take months to figure out why that pipe broke. the crews are still out there removing the buildup of crude oil on beaches and out on the coastal waters. now we're hearing of wildlife covered in oil. six pelicans and a young sea lion. they were among those rescued yesterday. they are gonna have to be carefully cleaned by people with special training. >> the general public may want to help but the fact is tried to capture oiled animals by people who don't have the training is dangerous both to the animal as well as to the people. >> the boats out there, they skim 9500 gallons of really oilily water so far. two of the beaches that would be packed with people over the memorial day holiday. they will stay closed this weekend because of this oil spill. the investigation of the spill will take some time. the crews have to dig up that broken pipeline and then inspect the leak. >>> a woman was hit and killed in san jose yesterday as she was i

two men who died in a crash involving a wrong way driver monday night on i-80 in sacramento. the chp says the two victims were from the bay area. the 24-year-old and 25-year-old were killed. the wrong way driver also died in that crash. there have been more than ten deaths involving wrong way drivers in northern california in the past three months. caltrans and state lawmakers are considering ways happened last night in philadelphia killing at least six people and injuring many more. the national transportation safety board will investigate why this rail car jumped the tracks. our reporter joel walden is live in philadelphia to tell us what is happening right now. joel? >> reporter: yes, dave. good morning to you. i can tell you there was question about whether or not the ntsb investigators arrived on the scene but they have because we just saw them with their vests. here is a live look. you can see they already brought in heavy machinery to begin to room the cranes after last night's harrowing crash. >> this is nightmare. it can't be happening. >> reporter: the regional train 108 was heading to new york city from washington, d.c. last night. it derailed and caused cars to tear apart and completely overturn. >> it heard a big bang. it caught my attention. helicopters and everybody started coming. >> reporter: the cause of the derailment is unknown but the area where it happened has a big curb. passengers say the front of the train was going into the curb when it began shaking. >> we were in the front seat and this huge red suitcase came flying at me. our train was on its side. it pushed me to the side of the train. >> reporter: the train was carrying 238 passenger and five crew members. one of those on board was former u.s. congressman patrick murphy. he described what happened right after the crash. >> i flew to the're side and landed on my -- flew to the other side and landed on my head. i checked my body parts to see if i was okay. there were people that didn't look like they were getting off the plane. i was stepping over people. >> reporter: the mayor says it is unimagable. >> it is an absolute, disastrous mess. >> reporter: the investigators will look at what is akin to a black box in an airplane to figure out what precipitated the crash. meanwhile there is a news conference scheduled for 11:00 a.m. eastern time. >> thank live on the scene. >> reporter: yes. chp officers tell me they respond to accidents at this turn about once a week, but nothing as bad as what happened overnight. someone ended up hearing the crash and officers tell us they are the people that called 9-1- 1. it happened just after 10:30 last night. this sedan carrying five people was carrying east been on leavesly near new avenue when the driver lost control, went off the road, hit a tree, into the air and down a ravine below. emergency crews crush -- crews rushed to the scene. >> at the time of the rescue four of the passengers were pronounced disceased and the driver was transported to the hospital with major injuries. >> reporter: the driver who survives was wearing a seatbelt and is expected to live. out of the passengers who died, three were female and one was male and offers say they appear -- officers say they appear to be under 25 years old. we will have more information on what happened as it comes in. it is unknown whether alcohol was involved and whether speed played a factor. a reminder for people that use the road to slow down. the officers tell us they seem to come out here very frequently. pam is this. >> folsom street. two cars clydeed which caused one -- collided, which caused one of the cars to hit the cyclist, sending him over the fence. >>> children vaccinated in the south bay may so to be revaccinated. the palo alto clinic is sending home letters to parents saying a faulty refrigerator was used to store vaccines in san jose that may have made the vaccines too cold, reducing the tara moriarty is live in berkeley to tell us about the bizarre phone call that the suspect made in the middle of the chase. such an unusual thing, tara. >> reporter: definitely. well, not only did he steal a car, lead police on -- chp on this crazy chase and then crash into an innocent bystander's car, but he has the audacity to call 911 and tell authorities to call off the search. now, they did not, obviously. but a couple of hours ago, they did end the search after they tried looking for him for four hours and were up able to. this is some of the damage left in his wake. he crashed into a silver suv in berkeley around midnight. the suv flipped. the victim was taken to the hospital. the took -- suspect took off. the chp said it was forced to pursue the vehicle by helicopter since he was driving the wrong way, all the way from concord to berkeley. >> ran multiple traffic breaks to attempt to stop the driver at a safe location during all of this that was going on, he called 911 and made a few statements to our dispatch and we relayed that he wasn't going back to jail. >> reporter: the chp said it couldn't halt the search out of public safety. once he started to drive the right way, officers chased him by car. the chp and berkeley police combed the area near the crash site knocking on doors, searching backyards but the search was called off. the search is described as white, short hair, medium build between 20 and 25 years old. police say the car he was driving was stolen out of martinez. live from berkeley, tara moriarty,back to you. >> thank you. >>> fire crews are staying busy around the bay area. overnight they were on the scene of a small grass fire in san jose that briefly threatened holes. alex savidge is live to explain what it took to control those flames. good morning, alex. >> reporter: yeah, tori, good morning to you. a real close call for people to live in this neighborhood in san jose. we're inside a mobile home park in the area. you can see as you look here at this charred hillside, just how close the flames came to some of the homes. moved up to the backyards but thankfully crews were able to get this brush fire under control pretty quickly in 45 minutes or so before it could do any damage. it started around 9:30. it was burning in the area of curtner and communications hill boulevard. now, we also want to move and show you another fire that broke out yesterday as well. crews have been busy around the bay area. this one investigators are trying to figure out how it started near

tara moriarty is joining us live in san francisco. you are where cyclists may stop and take a break as they head off to work. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. that's right. we are at 17th and valencia now. just a couple of minutes ago we were at the 24th street bart station. about 300 cyclists all took off in mass down mission street. they were headed down the peninsula it to go to work. a lot of people from facebook, those types of companies. they are looking very fresh faced and ready for exercise. you can see this is one of the energizer stations where people can stop and get a snack and then sort of go on their way. they were looking ominous, the skies. we were predicting rain. so far riders have managed to avoid any rain. organizers expect between 100 to 200,000 people from nine bay area counties to pedal to work and back today. it not only helps the environment by reducing carbon emissions caused by cars, but also promotes good health. are you trying to lure more people to the sport? >> today is definitely a day we hear from so many people that this was the thing that got them going again after not touching a bike for years and years. there is something infectious that happens today. and, yeah, it get people to rediscover something that again is so much fun and so convenient. >> reporter: along their route again riders can grab drinks, snacks, and gift like bicycle bells and helmet lights at this energizer station. we are heading over to city hall. they are going to be biking to work as well. i think it is safe to say that a lot of people are going to have sore muscles tomorrow. live in san francisco, tara moriarty. back to you. >> does to make you want to hop on a bike this morning, seeing those folks? >> reporter: you know what? it does. i wasn't very excited about wearing spandex. but i would jump on a bike. if you have your helmet and everything, you know. i want to show you the sky. look at this. i am seeing some blue. that's kind of over near the sunset to our right. >> yeah, yeah. >> reporter: the skies are not looking that bad. i think we might be in the clear here today. i know a lot of people were kind of hoping for rain. obviously, that would have rained a little bit on the bikers' parade. >> steve will talk about the forecast later on. tara, thank you. >>> 7:11. no rang on the parade for the warriors. the warriors heading back to memphis this morning with a chance to close out their series with the grizzlies. >> for three. >> after a sloppy start the warriors were on a 16-2 run to take a one point lead just at the end of the first quarter and they never trailed again, winnin
