terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. >>> 5:03. in a few hours top political and police officials in san jose will layout a new plan for battling violent crime. there have been 33 homicides so far this year almost a third within the last few weeks. amy hollyfield is live at the scene of that latest homicide. >> reporter: an 18-year-old was shot to death here last night. no arrests have been may. you mentioned this is the 33rd whom -- homicide this is a 15 year high for the city the community is so concerned that dozens held a peace rally last night outside the church. some are concerned about the number of police officers on the streets. they are wondering if there could be more or maybe outside agencies could come into san jose and help. the pastor last night said it is also about forming relationships. >> it is more than putting police officers in schools, on street corners it is about getting us to know a stable group of officers that we have a relationship with. >> reporter: police did make an arrest yesterday in the killing at

terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. >>> to the latest on hurricane isaac. overnight it made landfall on the gulf coast for a second time dumping rain and causing flooding. here's a live mixture of new orleans. you can see this is biloxi, mississippi the surge is high you can see that area battered by winds and rain. with the storm moving slowly the first test of new orleans' new levee system is yet to come. >> reporter: right now the worst spot as far as flooding and danger to people appears to be plaquemines parish, louisiana south of new orleans. the storm surge from hurricane isaac has again over a levee there. a spokesperson says water is running over an 18 mile stretch of the levee and some homes are flooded. deputies are going house-to-house to look for people who stayed, ignoring evacuation order. there are reports of people on roof and in their attics. not known how many are trapped hundreds of thousands are without power just in louisiana. the storm ripped a hole in his roof. >> the same kind of damage we received on katrina. i'm just blown away th

terry mcsweeney is live at san francisco's general hospital. what is the latest?latest we have is someone fighting for his life here at san francisco general hospital. another person is dead and it all ties in what could be a gang war here in san francisco. take a look at some pictures from lat night's shooting. it happened around 10:00 on san bruno avenue. two people standing in front of a building, two men in their 20s opened fire and ran to a waiting vehicle and took off. description of the vehicle is not much, a white car, four doors. one person in critical, another person dead as a result of that shooting. the other shooting, let's take a look at monday's shooting. this is what happened in broad daylight. two people were shot in visitacion valley, perhaps a mile or so from last night's shooting on san bruno avenue. both victims from monday, known gang members, gangs pliamd for the uptick in shootings in san francisco. police are investigating if these shootings are related. about four people were killed in the same general area of san francisco in the past fe

terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. >>> oakland's explicit academy just graduated the largest class ever. the police chief believes the training they've received will have a major impact on the city's crime rate. the 45 spent 14 weeks learning police work from the scene of the crime to the crime lab. oakland's chinatown is considered a model of how the program's graduates have helped reduce crime significantly they patrol in yellow shirts and call a beat officer if they see something suspicious. merchants have put up cameras. some of graduates say attitudes are changing within the oakland police department. >> they are really focusing on making sure they have the right type of officers here that can interact with all races and creeds and colors of people. >> police chief looks forward to having an extra 45 sets of eyes and ears to help his officers. >>> community pressure mountinging this morning on city leaders and police in san jose to stop the recent rash of deadly gang violence. community members joined with members of the san jose city council for a prayer vigil last night. the crowd

terry mcsweeney joins us live. cell phones are part there to blame? >> reporter: they are. if you don't have any cell phones you don't need cell phone towers if the towers interfering about the police ability to talk to one another which cell phone towers and where? you have probably seen some of these cell phone towers they are everywhere they've been inter fearing with police communications not a new problem, the system had a problem since it was put in a year ago. during president obama's visit to oakland's fox theater last month many of the 100 officers assigned to protect him and handle the protesters outside reported problems with the radio system. now lots of cell phone towers unsuspicion. oakland public safety systems adviser david cruz spoke with abc7 news. >> we are certainly looking at cell sites that are surrounding oakland emeryville, berkeley all areas that can potentially surgeon us within our geographic area. >> reporter: -- surround us within our geograph fix area. >> reporter: right now it is a matter of man ticks. oakland says 16 towers have been shutdown

>>> good morning i'm terry mcsweeney in for eric thomas. >>> and i'm kristen sze, thanks for joining us. oakland homicide investigators are asking to you take a close look at new sketches of suspects they believe shot and killed a 5-year-old boy last year at his father's taco truck. amy hollyfield is live at the oakland police department. just having these sketches a breakthrough. >> reporter: yeah, an old case but this is a very important new lead. take a look at these sketches. see if you can help this is what police believe the killer looks like. african-american in his 20s, about six feet tall, 185 pounds. they believe there was a woman with him, 20 to 25-year-old black woman who was about 140 pounds and stands around 5'7. check this out, they have surveillance video of the car they believe they were driving a chevy impala, maybe silver. police say there may been other women in that car that night as well. 5-year-old gabriel martinez was shot to death on december the 30th, he was with his parents. this was in the parking lot at international boulevard and 55th avenue. the little

terry mcsweeney with the lacest. >> reporter: palo alto police tell me they are increasing patrols here at the shopping center also in the neighborhood where the other tack occurred, not just uniformed police but undercover officers as well. the concern is the suspect is going to escalate his attacks. it was after noon yesterday when he struck a woman walking, a man comes out from between two parked cars gabs her breast and runs. last week on fulton street a woman was looking for her keys, a man walked up, grabbed her buttocks and ran. police say both happened noon. >> the random nature of the attack. the quick grab of the victim's body and the immediate exodus all lead us to believe that it is likely could be the same person. >> reporter: police say the description matches. these are the sketches. suspect described as east indian, 30, 5'9, medium build in the recent assault he was wearing a yellow hood last week a varsity sports jacket. >> i have pepper spray, i am going to be carrying that. sometimes i think i talk on my phone when i walk won't do that any more. >> we try to pair off.

terry mcsweeney joins us with the story. >> reporter: local susan g. komen wants to point out the decision made in january had nothing to do with them, that was at the national level as a result they are taking a hit organizations such as breast cancer emergency fund behind me, could pay. the national susan g. komen decide today back out of their funding of planned parenthood, because it was congressional investigation. they don't fund organizations under congressional investigation. there was such an uproar they changed their position, but it was too late. now there is trouble. you can see the women here, you have seen them on tv, in person and the walk brings in hs 1.6 million dollars in revenues, 1.1 goes to hospitals and clinics. 30% fewer people signed up because of the controversy for the breast cancer emergency fund that mean a cut of $100,000 and 100 fewer victims helped. >> the thing to remember is the money that comes from these local walks stays in local communities all this controversy at the national level has nothing to do with the servic
