carolina. then it accelerates and approaches the outer banks of north carolina. 12 hours later, by saturday morning, and it continues offshore. but then something happens. it slows down. the acceleration comes to a halt, and sunday morning, monday morning, tuesday morning, wednesday morning, this storm is lingering offshore. now, it's far offshore, but we will still be feeling the effects along coastal new jersey and delaware, and possibly inland, as well. the impacts from the storm over the holiday weekend, tropical storm watch in effect for delaware and south jersey. we could see wind gusts at 50 miles an hour, possibly higher. most likely sunday afternoon. the ocean, as a result, dangerous rip currents through the holiday weekend, and for boaters, very rough seas. and there's going to be flood possibilities, as well. coastal new jersey and delaware could see minor to moderate flooding. the back bays could see some major flooding, as the winds push the waters inland and heavy rains add to the threat. heavy coastal rains of 4 to 6 inches, extreme southeastern coast of new jersey, and extreme south

of course it is about julia for the southeast and the carolinas. with that counterclockwise rotation brings the showers onshore as well as keeps a steady flow. coastal flooding and rain adding up over a long period of time for the knicks up there. we're well south of it. it is not a huge storm but it does clearly have a local influence in the carolinas and trails moisture back here which will keep the possibility of showers generating. we raised the temperatures to near 90 degrees so that is enough instability to develop more showers. for the evening around 8:00, pushes everything off to the east. quieter here back to the west. we'll keep that slight chance of showers overnight. most occurring during the daytime hours. >>> for the rest of this evening on the computer model, thursday morning. >>> can't rule out seeing a morning shower. for thursday afternoon, scattered storms pushing east of the i-75 like we're on the radar today. friday morning, partly cloudy skies, a muggy part of the day. we want it to cool down, but the humidity remains. thursday

you can see all that tropical rain now extending on the virginia north carolina border. as we track hermine it is racing to the north and east at 20 miles an hour right now. however, that speed is going to decrease once it moves over the open waters of the atlantic on saturday afternoon and notice the winds start to kick up on saturday morning to 50, saturday afternoon to 60 and then as we get into sunday and monday, that is when it becomes a hurricane once again with winds of 75 miles an hour and then only drifts a little bit to the north and east by wednesday and you're noticing this. it looks like it's going out to sea and then it's doing one of those left hand hooks here because it gets trapped with high pressure to the north. that backs it in close to our coastline here during the day on monday and the problem is we have this beast of a high to the north. that high is acting as a wall, a barrier so hermine cannot be kicked out to sea quickly so it slows down, it stalls and that is going to create a tremendous amount of water to pile up at the shore and the shore is g

if you are headed in the direction of the carolinas, we are seeing the impacts of hermine. you can see it has weakened some moving across south carolina and into north carolina and virginia right now. let me show you the current conditions much it is moving down to 50 miles per hour sustained winds. but this storm will continue to impact the carolinas through tomorrow morning. and then it will start to make its way off to the atlantic. it will take a little time for them to clear out and the winds to relax. i would say by saturday afternoon and evening, they will be seeing improvement from utto north across the carolinas. if you are planning to drive north at all today, be aware that the winds will be gusty headed in that i-75 or i-95. but the storm has weakened. we're talking maybe 30 to 40 miles per hour gusts headed north in that area over the next several hours tonight. again, conditions will be strongest as you get into the carolinas overnight tonight or into early tomorrow before they really start to improve. if you're staying here locally, getting ready for the labor

it's currently causing problems for georgia and the carolinas. jeremy reiner is here with the latest track and when it could possibly impact us. jeremy? >> reporter: i think perhaps weekend, sunday night and monday looks like the most likely time line if she is going to bother us. again, here she is right here. she came ashore last evening in florida as category one hurricane, spent much of the morning hours over land and so that has led to some weakening. she now a tropical storm at 50 miles per hour but still a more fridayable tropical storm moving up the 95 corridor with he heavy rain. the latest thinking from the hurricane center is that she will continue on this northeasterly track and then emerge off the outer morning she is here and beginning to slow down and we've been talking about this since wednesday. that high pressure northern new england will block the northward advancement of hermine, but the water east of new jersey and maryland very warm and so that's likely going to lead to restrengthening to perhaps back into a hurricane monday

the storm will be on the move, expecting it to move up through the carolinas over the next 24 hours. act, our hour by hour forecast shows by this evening, it's in south carolina and north carolina and starting to affect southeastern virginia. this stays to our south during the day today. we have beautiful sunshine. look what happens as we go into saturday morning. the clouds start to arrive. that's 5:00 saturday morning. the rain still heaviest to our south. norfolk and into eastern north carolina get something very heavy rainfall. the forecast track keeps this storm system or takes it offshore and keeps it offshore. it's going to be close enough that we will likely see rain in delaware and south jersey. this was 1:00 saturday afternoon. now, this computer model keeps it a little farther offshore. that will give us occasional showers and very strong, gusty winds possibly to tropical storm force right along the coast for the jersey shore and the delaware beaches. even if the rain, the bulk of the rain stays offshore, the threat will come from the rough seas, the rip currents and from .

as we look at tropical storm hermine, the spin is still over south carolina. n see all the tornado watches marching up the eastern seaboard as the circulation continues to ride right along the coastline but at this point the center of the storm is still inland and will remain inland until tomorrow morning when it will merge off the coast of north carolina and southern virginia. this is 7:30 tomorrow morning when the clouds will start to increase in our area from the south to the north. then it hits that very warm water off of the atlantic here. this is saturday 10 o'clock at night when most of our area could still be dry so you may be saying where is the rain? the rain could hold off here until late saturday night or sunday. then as the storm deepens and intensifies and closes in, that's when some of the rain starts to move in 8 o'clock on sunday morning at the shore, cloudy philadelphia to the north and west and there you can see some of the bands wrapping around the center of hermine. at this point starting to turn into that hurricane at 10:30 and then as we

the storm has moved on to jim moran and its sights are set on the north carolina coast next. we begin our team coverage with meteoroligist elizabeth gardner. >> we are watching the storm. it is a north of the center of circulation. we have abeen following forecast track of this storm talking about the timing of when the center of circulation would arrive in a particular place. the important thing to remember is we are already starting to feel the impacts of the rain in north carolina. by the time the center of circulation arrives, we'll be seeing a lot of that rain ending. so we'll take a look at what is happening there and the forecast track continues to north carolina. winds at 70 miles per hour now moving northeast at 14. it is 500 miles southwest of raleigh. here is that forecast track but keep in mind, by the time the center of circulation has passed by, most of the rain will be ending. the strongest wind will come along with that center of circulation. at 2:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, we'll see winds along the coast at 45 miles per hour. our winds inland will be less than
