unlike cedar rapids, the evacuation in palo is mandatory. here in cedar rapids, the city has already preemptively shut down several roads ahead of this week's flooding. here are just some of the areas the city says you should avoid. crews have already shut off access to all downtown bridges. the city is restricting access to portions of downtown ellis road west of edgewood road is also closed. as is otis road along the sac and fox trail in southeast cedar rapids. and as a reminder, don't travel to areas along the river unless you are helping with flood preparations. driving or even walking to the river can get in the way of construction equipment that needs to be there. you're still encouraged to volunteer and fill sandbags to help build walls. cedar rapids and linn county have four sites set up for sand there's one at the old kmart near 16th avenue and williams boulevard southwest... another at hawkeye downs. and the city has re-opened a sandbagging location at the ellis park pavilion. linn county is also sandbagging at its secondary roads b
