to thank mayor lee for hosting us and his leadership in san francisco and meeting the goal of insuring conicly homeless vets are housed in the city of san francisco. i just came into office 15 weeks ago and taking on the same challenge and we know we valot shorter run way to be able to meet that challenge, but it is important fortuse focus our energy and efforts because after all, our veterans risked aesk for us. and we can do better. we have over 700 homeless vets based on our last census in santsa clara county in 2013, i'm guessing the recent census will reveal we have even more homeless vets. we know the cost of living is more challenging particularly for the poor and working poor and we have to do more. that is why i'm looking forward to a renewed collaboration with the va to see how we can better break down the silocal, share information to insure services are match would the veterans for mental helt, for alcohol and substance abuse, all the many needs as we try to get more of our vets off the streets and out of the creaks and under a roof. and for us in san jose we recognize the critical need of innovation. it is the larges

but i was always interested in sanford cisco in terms of the city culture, the amazing lgbt community -- i was always interested in san francisco. i am an attorney. i started off in private practice, doing complex litigation. in 2002 i moved to the san francisco city attorney's office, where our work on the trial team, doing trials for the city and doing my own cases and supervising a team of attorneys as well. another huge issue confronting the city is the deferred maintenance on our infrastructure. we have a lot of infrastructure that has been deteriorating because we have not maintained it properly from our roads to our sewer system to muni. we need to be much more diligent about maintaining our infrastructure. i have been interested in politics since i was a kid. i have worked on campaigns since i was a teenager. i was involved in campaigning against senator jesse helms when i was in college. when i came out here i was not initially involved politically. i was involved in community work, helping to build the lgbt community center doing neighborhood work, and i eventually started doing campaigns and gradually got more involv

it is important as our city continues to grow and we become more and more dense focusing on why the parks matter is a important discussion. san francisco was fortunate to welcome about 10 days ago a thousand park professionals from big cities around the word, 20 different countries from every state in the country to a conferencethality happens every 2 or 3 years on urban parks and it is what we talked about for 3 orfore daze. the chalthss with big cities are not unique, but because of san franciscos growth we find ourselves faces some of the challenges as critically as anyone. 85 percent of america lives in a urban core. 95 percent of california lives in a urban core. our planning department predicts i think we are now the second more dense city in the nation in san francisco and the planning department predicts new 80 new presidents and 97 now housing units in the next 25 years. it is very nert esting to note that i think since 1994-since 20s 0491 percent of all new housing units created in san francisco were 10 units or more. 91 percent of all new housing project are 10 units or more, which means no more back yards are built so the p
