they're still working with the clinton campaign. they want to make sure that the terms are agreed to by the clinton campaign. and that really there's all options on the table. of course, clinton's role in benghazi when she was secretary of state has cast a shadow over her and continued to dog her throughout the campaign. whether it's october 22nd or another date this is beginning to come right in the middle, heading up to the iowa caucus and the primary, so certainly not the time where clinton's campaign wants this attention to be focused on her role in benghazi. >> so what is that committee saying? are they saying that her camp isn't fully cooperating in totally unlimited questioning? what are they saying other than the timing which is not a huge issue? >> well it appears something will get worked out. it just hasn't yet. the committee is saying that the date has not been set and that they continued to work with the clinton lawyers. they want to make sure that everything is sorted out ahead of time. but this follows a long drawn out

the clinton campaign confirming october 22. clinton will appear on the hill in a public hearing. re was much contention between the clinton campaign and republicans on the committee, the chairman. republicans wanted her to testify twice. one in private and another in public. clinton has said she will testify once one time only. she wanted it to be public. her role in this as secretary of state at the time has brought one of the biggest attack lines republicans have brought against her and a lot of scrutiny elsewhere. certainly the clinton campaign eager to put questions to bed. the committee has been scouring through a lot of e-mails that were released from the state department from her private server which highlighted the conversations she was having leading up to the attack in benghazi. and after the attack. it should be noted that clinton has repeatedly defended herself saying she had no direct role in security decisions at u.s. facilities the u.s. consulate in benghazi. certainly this will put another spotlight on the issue for the clinton campaign in iowa something they don't

but this is a big question for the clinton campaign. and it has been a question since the beginning. i don't think she did a good job in answering those questions from the start. if you remember the press conference that she gave when she had her own server in her own house and wiped it clean. people are going to ask about that. my question for michael is as the clinton campaign reacted? you said they asked for and received one minor correction in the story or revision in the story. did you have the sense that they were trying to jump on this issue with both feet or that they were in any sense kind of thrashing around and hoping it goes away? what was the vibe that you were getting from the clinton campaign? >> well, first of all, they said it was a substantial change to the story. i don't think it was. i think it was a thing that refocused the lead of the story and such. it was very strong. they came at us very strong and very late and very forcefully. and it was certainly something they jumped on much harder than back in march when the
