so, what i the signs i get are community involvement. the pta i like seeing people at the meeting it is because they are members of the community that are coming together to try to make the school a better place for their kids. which can involve a lot of things but often tytimes is removing graffiti and community gardening and taking back the neighborhood. they are doing the same work kid serve is doing. the fact that parents and teachers show up because they are interested says community involvement. those other things i look for when i get on the phone and try to create a meeting. the one thing i will say is i know the deadline from this grant is the 19th it's soon. >> it's actually you should know the deadline was extend to october 12. >> okay. if for some reason it takes time to set up meetings. there are new deadlines in the spring. if for some reason you miss this deadline stay in touch with the website because there are new deadlines that come up. parent teacher association, these are parents and grandparents that live in the neigh

they are great in the community. every time we have had a neighborhood cleanup event, the have been the first to donate their time, their resources, bagels, muffins -- whatever is needed to help at the committee. they are set apart from other places in the district. for many people in the district, java beach service at a second home -- serves as a second home. they will meet up to reconnect. it is a second home for many in the sunset district. pat and buffy our family folks. they have three great boys and their place represents that. they do invite the atmosphere of a family-oriented business. if you go on any holiday, you will see they have this great christmas party every year, kids running around, karaoke for everyone. they truly embody the spirit of having family-oriented restaurants. finally, one of the biggest reasons i wanted to recognize pat and buffy is for the tremendous work in turning around the neighborhood. a lot of people talk about what the benefits of restaurants are. there might be empty storefronts

talking to people is the best way to build communality. we do organize a lot of activities in our neighborhood. the reason why we are successful in organizing all the activities is we have a large shared leadership organization. all of us our volunteers and 11 board members we have over 60 volunteers in our neighborhood distributing on a parent's group or safety team. they are helping with marketing and pr. they are helping us with reaching out and setting up meetings with the mayor. we also set up meetings with the mayor and our city representatives. so, through those organization and volunteers and the committees we get a lot of community building everybody knows somebody else the classic network model. we do have meetings general meetings for the neighborhood and those are we communicate those meetings through the news letter through the yahoo group and fliers we generally get 70 people. the last had 160 meeting. the driver was because we had shootings in our neighborhood. the neighborhood association got a lot of big hitters to our meet
