no competitive races, virtually no campaigns by the incumbents who consider their reelections a foregone code collusion that foregone conclusion -- a foregone conclusion. that brought down the latino voter turnout as a national number. things are very different in 2018. we expect that to change with regard to the competitive races across the country building latino voter enthusiasm. a quick reminder about our most recent national election. a historic turnout of latino voters in that presidential election, 12.7 million latinos turned out to vote. that was a 13% increase. numbers -- by the numbers, you will see the turnout of voting age citizens for latinos in 2012 was 48%, roughly flat for 2016. i want to turn your attention to the number of registered voters. in 2012, nearly 82% of latinos registered to vote turned out to vote. in 2016, more than 83% of latinos registered to vote turned out to vote. if we managed to get latinos registered to vote, they are going to vote. and the obstacles to voter toistration -- any obstacle voter registration has a direct affect on latino voter turnout.
