in violent crime over the past six years. oaklandity leaders say the decline is due in large part to the cease fire program. ktvu's allie rasmus is here to explain it to us. >> reporter: how the cease fire program works, members of the oakland police department, clergy members host regular meetings with people who live in at risk areas, areas that had problems traditionally with gang violence. they have the one-on-one meetings with some of the people and they put them in touch with some job services, social services, ged programs and the drug and alcohol addiction services. these one-on-one meetings are supposed to help build trust with the community and also help the people who are enrolled in the program. cease fire started back in 2012 and six years later, oakland police are touting the results of a report that shows that the program has played a role in bringing down the violent crime rate in oakland, reducing the number of shootings by 50% from 2012 to 2017. advocates for the cease fire program say there is a lot of work to do t
