our winter weather team coverage takes us back to the peninsula. chopper 10 was above colonial williamsburg yesterday. the area got more snow than we saw in hampton roads, so the roads are a our jason marks is in driving around in james city county. jason how are the roads looking? the virginia department of transportation (vdot) encourages motorists to avoid unnecessary travel. if travel is a must, drivers should exercise caution while on roads as low overnight temperatures likely will result in icy pavement conditions during the early morning hours. pavement may be especially slick on bridges, overpasses and ramps, which freeze first, and roads with lower traffic volumes and shaded spots. drivers also should be alert for pedestrians walking in roads, especially in more urban areas where most sidewalks are blocked with deep piles of snow. vdot is not responsible for snow removal on 2 or more car lengths between you and the next car don't break hard but gently to avoid skidding. turn on your lights to increase visibility make sure lights and use low

you can see what parts of the hardest hit peninsula yesterday. the main road looks clear, but some icy spots remain. compare chopper 10 - to this scene! people near out weekend's historic storm dropped nearly three feet of snow in some areas. this town in chester county was one of the worst hit areas. officials say snow fell at more than an inch an hour in some parts. a snow emergency for the region ended last night. v-dot teams from hampton roads are helping other areas in the state dig out. crews rolled out yesterday to help crews in northern virginia and lynchburg. these are pictures of them leaving shortly after sunrise sunday. 36 workers left with snow plows, spreaders, and motor graders to help vdot with critical snow clearing operations. they'll join teams already working around the clock to clear out the snow. the winter weather blanketed roads in mathews county and the gloucester area. while the roads begin to clear today, we still saw several car accidents over the weekend. and as 10 on your side's matt gregory will tell you - a piece of
