the library of virginia in richmond, the american civil war museum, and the university of virginia center for civil war his three, cohosted this hour-long talk. the title of this year's symposium is ordinary people, extraordinary times. the theme relates to the flagship exhibition that will be opening and our new museum building at historic sugar which is now well under construction. if you have not been out to see it, it is a wonder. exhibit will adjust the big picture of the american civil war and its continuing affects, but it will also highlight the experiences of real people and the effect of the war on real people. in planning for the exhibition and the experience of theater that will be a part of our new museum, we were struck anew by the words of lucy back, a young girl from front royal, virginia who observed, we shall never, any of us be the same as we have been. certainly, while her sentiments were strictly related to her life as a young southern girl, part of the confederacy, the words do have resonance for everyone else that experienced this conflict. weh that observation, ass

we are at the west county jail here in richmond. this is really the only detention facility for undocumented immigrants in the bay area. actually, the facility has a contract with i.c.e. and this is where they jail them. under a new state law the sanctuary state law local law enforcement agencies aren't supposed to communicate when they release undocumented immigrants or really any information with i.c.e. but according to some attorneys here in the county, the county is finding a way around it by tipping off i.c.e. agents about the release dates by publishing them online. in january the sanctuary state law came in effect. on february 18th, contra costa county began publishing the release dates of all inmates, including undocumented immigrants. sanctuary state law sb54 prohibits local law enforcement from sharing information with immigration authorities and typically including release dates. we spoke to an attorney and she said publishing the release dates of prisoners is an open invitation to i.c.e. to pick up undocumented immigrants

the sunset district. we could get it to richmond, but it wouldn't perform well. ouldn't get it over to the subset district. so to adequately supply the west side, we would have to add supplies from sunset or lake merced. and what we found out was that for about the same cost of an awss for the richmond district alone, we can meet the standards of the fire department needed during large fires. what would be the source of supply for the awss? we're looking at the sunset reservoir located in the sunset district. during the 4.8 billion dollar improvement program was completely retrofitted. there's about a $45 million project. the north basin, which is the basin we would pull from contains 90 million gallons of water. that would equal or exceed the existing water supplies that feed the rest of the city. the reservoir is constantly being replenished by the water system, and will receive water within 24 hours of a big earthquake. that's what we spend the money on to make sure we will get water into sunset reservoir and out to the city within 24 hour. the first thing we n
