the ymca of san francisco is currently going through a needs assessment with each branch of our ymca. we will be reporting and getting those findings together in march and april. we will be glad to invite you to come to our breakout sessions, where we will present our findings. the market hayward park, besides doing the programs nicole has mentioned, will do a summer carnival, which we hosted for the last three years at margaret hayward park. we have games, free barbecue, activities for kids throughout the day. last summer, we had over 700 kids from not just the western addition, but throughout the city, participate. we also do a holiday dinner for families in the western addition. this last holiday, we served 100 meals to the kids and families of the western addition. we truly do work with the community to provide services we need in the margaret hayward park. >> i am executive director of the girls 2000 agency, doing business at the hunters point family. we serve both girls and boys. i spoke at the last committee meeting about services we provide. instead of presenting more to you,

the ymca at margaret hayward provides after-school programs that support arts, drumming, hip-hop, and praised vance, family cooking, and spring camp, which helps parents after work during things like spring break. girls 2000 is designed to meet the needs of girls ages 6 through 18 and their families living in the bayview hunters point housing developments. the underlying philosophy is that all children can succeed with proper tools and guidance. they provide youth education, art education, health the cooking, life skills such as nutrition, drug education, sex education, and pregnancy prevention. youth recreation include seasonal sports, friday night fun, cardio boxing, board games, lacrosse, yoga, man softball, and job training. i will introduce the directors of these programs to speak more fully. >> mining is rodney channel. i am the branch manager who is currently operating the programs that margaret hayward park. i want to thank you for your time here. we are really interested in giving the

we do that with the school district, the boys club and the ymca. the connection is the important thing. without the connection and listening relationship, there is no trust. that's what we strive to build. >> thank you. did you want to add something, angela? >> yes, i did, i had a couple of action items. i think this is a good time to add. to officer parillo. there's a lot of great programs. i noticed these programs are sporadic. there's a couple at this school and this school. maybe a year, 2 years. there's maybe one program. not that many programs that we invest in long term. i was looking at this the other day with the contents. if you look at the back. there's a charter of the usfd. violence prevention chart. the most important part for me is the school wide behavior program. what's been found to be the best way to prevent violence is have a school wide program. it has to be embedded in your curriculum. the different ways you create different rules in class and how do deal with that. there's an entire school investment that has to be involved in

the local ymca was able to pull together for the event. another unique thing for the fisherman's wharf cbd is a pier safe program. we have thousands of visitors staying in our hotels. it was important to us that we were able to respond with emergency preparedness. we have an active committee that works with the fire department. we have helped train, over the last five years, over 400 certifications. we have over 100 people on fisherman's wharf who are certified. we do an annual drill around the anniversary of the earthquake where we can demonstrate and practice those skills. it is a year-long program. we have a radio check, where we check in with our businesses on every tuesday at noon. we do that to make sure the communications are well. the people and businesses have really embraced it and they have helped spread it across the board. another area we work closely with is neighborhood organizations. conrad park is a small park at the end of columbus st.. it is a gateway to our neighborhood. we were running into issues with the park. it was

however, during a trip to the connecticut ymca a couple of years ago, luis could not access the indoor swimming pool so luis and carolina decided to take action and not only did they promote awareness of paralysis and disabilities in this community but also made the connecticut ymca accessible for all the disabled. out of this victory, the walk-about foundation was born. the walk-about foundation's mission is twofold. first, to actively pursue a cure for paralysis by helping fund research programs, and second, to provide wheelchairs to those who cannot afford one. what makes the walk about foundation singular ises i drive to make sure that disable -- singular is its drive to make sure that disabled individuals can lead full and active lives. this is due to lisa's character and unyielding belief that people should not be victims of their circumstances. the walk about foundation has not limited its services and generosity to just our nation. last month the foundation provided 200 wheelchairs to hatey. in addition to the 4 hub -- haiti. in addition to the 400 they had already donated last
