we're at the intersection of broad street and tioga. you can see the tow truck driver is getting rid of debris behind the ambulance that was involved in the crash. the ambulance, i'm told, in a few minutes, is going to be towed from the scene. you can see the black sedan that has significant front end damage. new information i got is that the driver is in critical condition. he was taken a few feet away into temple university hospital because this crash happened right outside temple hospital. the driver is in critical condition. at this time, investigators believe he was speeding, that's because there are very defined skid marks, less than 100 yards from the intersection where this happened. so police believe he was speeding northbound on broad when he was approaching an intersection with a red light. there was stopped traffic. and he veered to avoid the car in front of him because he was going so fast. and when he went into the southbound lane he came head on with the ambulance. the ambulance was transporting a patient here to temple h

this crash happened around 2:00 at tioga and broad at north philadelphia. it was a crash between an ambulance and a black sedan. what police are telling us happened, the ambulance was traveling south on broad. it did have a patient in the back when the black sedan was traveling north on broad which according to police veered to avoid traffic went into the southbound lane and hit the ambulance nearly head on. so you have the driver who was operating that black sedan, hit the windshield and dashboard. he has serious head injuries. he was taken literally a few feet away to temple university hospital. and then a patient in the black of the ambulance suffering from minor injuries also taken to temple university hospital. as jillian mention wed do have a traffic problem in the area because this portion of venango and broad street blocked off. you have several septa buses having to detour around this. we do have investigators out here. this is medic 25. it's a city vehicle, so as long as it takes to go through this wages, broad will be blocked off. reporting live,

at the scene. >> reporter: in the last few seconds, tioga street and broad street, this intersection just reopened. since around 2:00 this morning it was closed off to traffic because that's around the time that we had an accident involving an ambulance, and a four-door black sedan. you can see the video. it's pretty extensive front end damage. police say that the driver of the black sedan he was geoing northbound on broad street when he was approaching the intersection. he came to a screeching halt because he believed he was screaming. he came to a screeching halt trying to avoid cars in front of him. veered into the oncoming lane. they collided. the driver of that black sedan suffering from pretty critical injuries. he's right now at temple university hospital undergoing a c.a.t. scan but we're told he has extensive injuries. there was a patient in the back of the ambulance. and that patient fortunately did not receive any additional injuries than why they were brought to the hospital in the first place. fortunately for the people involved, it happened right outside the hospital. l
