news 4's tracee wilkins joins us live from the brandywine bus depot with more on this year's changes. good morning, tracee. >> reporter: good morning, joe. we're hanging out here because the superintendent will be joining us here shortly to wish the bus drivers a safe year. he's going to make a tour of all the schools here in prince george's county -- well, nearly all of the schools. they're going to be going everywhere today, saying hello to all of the students. this is the second largest school system in maryland. 18th largest in the nation, with 134,000 students. this is a diverse and also challenged school system. while the school system hnas se. some improvements in the last few years, prince george's county is still ranked among the lowest performing school districts in the nation. according to the most recent report, 63% of the county's seniors are graduating. that's below the national average. this year, the system s has a n superintendent, dr. william height, and some changes are coming this way as well. there will be some kindergarten through eighth grade schools this year.

news 4's tracee wilkins joins us live with more on this. good morning, tracee. >> good morning. yes, still not fixed. when this problem started, there were 8,000 students without class schedules. now officials are saying that number is down to just under 2,000. prince george's county's superintendent dr. william hite says the scheduling mix-up on the first day of school has been frustrating for families, embarrassing for the system and he says he's sorry. during last night's regularly scheduled school board meeting, the superintendent revealed that the administration knew about the class schedule issue but ran out of time to fix it and did not have a backup plan. under 2,000 students are still without those school schedules, down from 8,000 mostly high school students. on the first day, students were sent to gyms, cafeterias and other holding areas while the administration tried to fix the problem. the school system says much of the blame rests on the $4 million computer system called school max. the system sorts out schedules and grades and was introduced in prince george's cou
