tracie potts joins us with more from washington. >> reporter: lynn, good morning. herman cain has now won his second republican straw poll, the first one in fll florida and now in kansas city at a women's gop convention. he had been considered a minor candidate, this former pizza executive from atlanta, but now he seems to be gaining momentum. we saw him on a couple of the sunday talk shows yesterday criticizing texas governor and candidate rick perry. apparently perry, his father owns a farm where perry often hunts. at this entrance of that farm painted on a rock was a racial slur. the perry family says they bought this farm in the 80s, they removed it, but there were some anon-miss reports that it was still there recently. cain said that that was insensitive to african-americans in this century. perry now trying to hold on to his lead as a front-runner in that race as chris christie, new jersey governor, is taking a look at possibly running. although some say his record in new jersey, joblessness and education cuts could make it tough. >>> tracie potts for us in

today in the bay's tracie potts is live in washington with more on the story. good morning, tracie. a couple of things happened to create the rally. we saw it in the asian markets and european markets as well. investors were thrilled to hear the european union will bail out greece. the kbhi in groois having a huge effect in europe. it's been affects our markets as well. once we heard news of the bailout t announcement. we saw the markets shoot up, stocks over on the dow over 300 points up by tend of the day. the other issue that happened, the other thing that happened was the commerce department reported that we had 2.5% growth over the summer in the third quarter. so that seemed to have a positive impact and get rid of fears, at least for now, of a possible second recession. now that's not the end of the story because in order to avoid a second recession. in order to get the stubborn 9.1% unemployment rate down. we're going to need to see that type of growth this quarter, next quarter, and into next spring. jon? >> tracie potts, thanks for the washington reports. >> it is 6:44. com

tracie potts has the latest from capitol hill. tracie, good morning. >> reporter: eun, good morning. there's the magic question. senate republicans have already rejected the president's plan and come up with their own promising 5 million jobs by easing restrictions, government regulations on businesses, oil drilling, and a big tax overhaul. depositio democrats, though, argue that tax breaks won't create jobs or we'd have seen them already with the bush tax cuts. president obama talked about some of this in a phone call yesterday with republican house speaker john boehner. boehner says his republicans will consider government money for infrastructure as long as we do it in a fiscally responsible way. he congratulated boehner on free trade deals with colombia and south korea. that will create 250,000 jobs. today president obama and south korea's president lee will travel to michigan, where they'll visit an auto plant there in michigan, a gm plant, that's producing a car that was designed in south korea, the type of collaboration they

nbc news' tracie potts is live on capitol hill with the latest. >> reporter: hey, eun, good morning. this report out of politico. i should say it has not been independently confirmed by nbc news. politico says there were a couple of women, who he was head of that restaurant association, who accused him of inappropriate behavior. they ended up leaving their jobs with a payout that prevented them from talking about it. politico has identified those women but are not publishing those identities. in a response, both written and a statement, a campaign spokesperson for cain said these are inside the beltway media attacks, unsubstantiated, thinly sourced, and since opponents haven't had much luck attacking his ideas, a spokesman said they're now attacking cain personally. cain came out on top of a des moines register poll in iowa over the weekend, 23%, just ahead of mitt romney, who is at 22%. this is the second time in a week cain has been in the news in a negative way. you may remember that advertisement where an adviser was smoking during the ad. cain said over the weekend he does not e
