up next, we go inside the transamerica pyramid. the new owners showing off the multi-million dollar revamp, plus the bay area's new wnba team showing off plans for its locker room and practice space. a number of people experiencing homelessness is skyrocketing. our partners at san jose spotlight report. three years ago, there was a 9% rise in unhoused people in santa clara county. but new data shows a 24% jump. that's an increase of more than 4000 new families without a home. editor of the spotlight says two things are contributing to that spike. the effects of the end of the covid ban on on evictions. so now we're looking at almost 23,100 people who will have been evicted, which is the highest number since 2014. the other thing is we don't have enough affordable housing within the county or san jose. adding to the problem is that many families living in shelters and tiny homes don't have the financial means to move out and transition to permanent housing. so that's causing a logjam, leaving more homeless people out on the streets.

san francisco and now there's been another scare involving falling glass, this time out of the transamerica pyramid which just recently reopened to the public. you can see that the windows are sealed up there where pieces of glass fell to the street below. our sooji nam takes us through what happened. >> we're doing maintenance on the building that risks maybe some debris coming down. >> reporter: the day after shards of glass fell from the iconic transamerica pyramid center along montgomery street -- >> we're asking people to cross or go through the park. >> reporter: -- staff members were guarding the building's perimeters as crews worked to clean up the glass and debris from the incident. a glass pane was being cleaned thursday evening when the glass somehow broke with pieces of the window falling down onto 600 montgomery street. many people we talked to say the news doesn't worry them. >> everything's a risk. you just got to be willing to take a risk. >> i lived in the city many years. i used to come to this great restaurant they had here at the pyramid. when the pyramid was first built

this time at the newly renovated transamerica pyramid. our investigative unit obtained some photos from inside the transamerica pyramid. this is on 600 montgomery. the department of building inspection says the window broke last night while it was being washed. glass did fall below onto washington street. thankfully, no one was hurt. the opening has been secured. you see, the window there and the new glass will be installed soon. this isn't the first time a window has fallen from a high rise in the city. earlier this month, a car was hit by a window that fell on mission street at the salesforce east building. that's across from the millennium tower. a crew was using a crane on the roof of the building when something went wrong, and that window plummeted 31 floors. again, no one was hurt, thankfully. and then last year, we had seven high rises experiencing window failures during our windstorms. well also tonight, back to reality. after yesterday's celebration of a's baseball. the a's are now done with oakland. so what comes next? well, it'
