a trenton police officer was hit by a car earlier this morning. the driver of the car was about a mile away with a gunshot wound. katy zachry is piecing this together for us in hamilton township. katy? >> reporter: investigators are right now talking to the officer injured. they are also about to interview the suspect in this. and this is what you're looking at right now this is the suspect's vehicle. and investigators tell me that he hit several parked cars here on east state street in hamilton township. the driver of this vehicle was shot when police got to him. right now he's in the hospital. he is suffering from non-life-threatening injuries and investigators are about to interview him. but we'll take you back to the first scene on walnut and chestnut avenues not far from the trenton transit center where a trenton police officer who was standing outside his cruiser this morning was hit by this driver. now investigators say the officer's leg was sideswiped. he had a partner at the scene with him and his partner was not injured. back out here li

katy zachry is live for us in trenton. so katy you have more details on how this all happened now. >> reporter: yes, in the last few minutes i talked to investigators who tell me two police officers were here when this happened. at least one of them was outside the cruiser and basically sideswiped by this oncoming car. now the vehicle, that vehicle that sideswiped the cruiser left the scene and was found about a mile and a half away in hamilton township. police tell me the car hit several parked cars before stopping. the driver was injured i'm told. we are hearing he was shot by investigators are not saying if he was shot by police or shot by someone else. as for the officers here on the scene, they were both taken to a local hospital. one has minor injuries. i'm told injuries to his leg. so two officers and a suspect will be interviewed over the next few hours. now, we are going to leave here and go over to the additional scene a mile and a half away. we'll have a live shot from there in a half hour. reporting live from t

a trenton police officer is recovering after being hit by a car.estigators say the officer was hit in the leg and then the suspect kept going. the suspect's car was found a short distance away in hamilton township as he hit several parked cars. the suspect was found with a gunshot wound but it's not clear who shot him. the officer and suspect were not seriously hurt and both are being questioned by investigators. >>> and now to breaking news that we're following overseas. a car on a highway in taiwan captured this stunning video of a passenger plane going down shortly after takeoff. the jet clipped a freeway bridge and crashed into the river below. we have a live picture out of taiwan. this is the search and rescue operation underway in tapei where it's about 7:30 in the evening there. some eight hours after the plane went down with 58 people on board. the latest count is 19 people are confirmed dead 24 are missing and 15 survived. and then we just got this new video showing the damage to the bridge where it was hit by the plane. the witnesses say

it is the second officer-involved shooting in trenton since the fall. nbc10's doug shimell is live in trenton with more on this case. >> reporter: administrators say in the wake of the police cases in ferguson missouri, and in new york and in the wake of the police officer cuts here administrators want to make sure that logo isn't some sort of target. the residents in the few homes not boarded up didn't understand why someone would try to run over two police officers early this morning. the fbi and mercer county detectives are now looking at why 23-year-old jeremiah sanchez allegedly used his car to try to hit the officers and why they shot him in the neck and arm. >> it's a split-second decision these guys have to make. so, we'll go through the walk-through and see what develops from it. >> reporter: last november trenton officers shot and killed a man who allegedly open fire on their police car. all this while the department still still copies with the loss of 130 officers because of budget cuts. are the numbers coming down? >> they seem to be on the

i just got off the phone with trenton police and they told me that that officer who was stuck by a carly this morning is at saint mary's hospital and he is going to be okay. now, this incident started around 1:30 this morning at the intersection of chestnut avenue and walnut avenue in trenton. that's where trenton police were involved in a chase that ended up on the 1700 block of east state street in hamilton township. that's where the officer was hit and where the driver of the car involved in the chase was found with a gun shot wound. that person as well was transported to saint mayor pre's and is expected to be okay. detectives are on the scene right now and are still trying to sort through all of the details. we do not know at this point if there was another person in that car where the civilian who was shot was found or if the officer who was struck by the car was involved in the initial chase. but again, that trenton police officer who was struck by the car during this incident is at saint mary's and he is expected to be okay. detectives are processing all the information right n
