uc berkeley chancellor said all of us in the uc berkeley family are heart broken to know another promising young student has been lost to senseless violence. neighbors describe leslie as a talented kind young man who was excited about his adventure in france. he posted daily comments about his time in nice on social media. he was participating in a summer local entrepreneurship program in nice. three students were injured. one of them 21-year-old darius madora remains hospitalized with a broken leg. the other two students were released from the hospital. it is not clear yet why nicolas leslie was not reported among the dead immediately after the attack. a vigil will be held for leslie tomorrow at uc berkeley at sproul plaza. we will have more on the investigation into the attacks coming up in about 10 minutes. marianne favro, nbc 10 news. >> a chaotic situation in baton rouge after what is describes as an ambush left three officer dead. plenty of questions about what led up to this violence in a community that's been in crisis ever since the controversial shooting of a black man by officer

student in nice the night of the attack. >> reporter: 20-year-old nicolas leslie is one of 85 uc berkeleytudents who were studying abroad in nice. this was video of his family leaving their delmar home earlier today to fly to france to look for their son. three other berkeley students in the group were injured in the attack. officials say friends of leslie's saw him avoid the truck but lost him later during the chaos. now his uncle is reportedly checking all the hospitals in the area for leslie, while fellow uc berkeley students in france put up posters in nice, hoping to find their friend. >> so we decided to print out fliers, and we've been in touches with the american consulate. we asked them to be -- we officially asked permission to put their number on the flyer and they were okay with it, so i had official permission. apparently one of the police didn't like that we were putting up flyers. >> reporter: he says officers brought him into police headquarters in nice and briefly questioned him about why he was posting fliers. students have been holding prayer meetings and saying the moo
