the officer who was shot was taken to umc. he is stable and alert. continuing our team coverage we go to abby theodros live from the hospital tonight with more on that officer. started like any other weekday for this officer but a call for a domestic dispute ended in gunfire and landed him in the hospital. a 21 year veteran of the metropolitan police department is in recovery at university medical center after a domestic dispute call went awry. it all started late this morning when the unnamed officer responded to the call at emerald suites. that's where a man unrelated to the initial call approached the fire and shooting him twice in the officer shot back -but the shooter was able to flee the scene. he had a pretty substantial injury under his armpit area. the bullet missed his vest and he'll subsequently have to deal with that for some time. late thursday evening the officer was being treated for non injuries with his wife and son by his side. members of the police force were also standing by - showing their support. : i just came from umc visiting

that child was taken to umc. >> we have bryan callahan joining us live with more information. brian, what can you tell us? >> well, yeah, we're here on the east side of the tuscany casino, that suspect vehicle is sitting about 100 feet to my left. an officer just got out and all these bushes are blocking our view of that from our live location. the windshield of that car and the rear view myrrh are damaged, as you saw in the pictures from chopper 13. i talked to a witness who had just arrived in tuscany to check in. he said he saw 6 to 7 officers running toward the woman. he saw her get handcuffed. woman. he was driving up las vegas boulevard, we ran into the closure following the accident, said he detoured down harmon before arriving here, and seeing that woman get arrested. it left the scene here about 15 minutes ago, but back out here, the officers have recently come out of least unmarked vehicles to walk down, take a closer look at the woman's vehicle here, trying to get an idea of what happened in this accident. likely going to be out here for continuing the investigation
