i am with the labor international union local 261. i was preceded by my brothers who were more eloquent about the details of the project. i can tell you that it is difficult for us to get up here because we have a great deal of respect for supervisor chu, the elected official in district 3. we spoke earlier about the park advocates. for those of you who have yet to find your way, i want to talk a little bit about the men and women that we represent, the working poor, the people who live in this city, the people who are from this community and the people who deserve us to represent them at this critical time. we have three or four opportunities every year to come here and create work for those people. $26.89, that is the number we should be talking about. we have heard $470 million, $270 million, we need to talk about the workers, the people who need your help. we need to talk about the laborers, the carpenters, the engineers. we need to talk about the hotel workers. we are getting killed by these ideological debates. by not moving for

i'm the owner of a contracting business, we're a local union business, local contractor here in san francisco for the last 57 years. of all of the contractors in the land, cpmc and sutter chose us to joint venture six years ago to form a partnership to bring this facility to life. i have never seen an owner so patient with the process in my life. so many of the projects that we start never get to the start line and to the finish line. i know there are many waity issues on your plate here, life safety, seismic, economic, physical, and mental health of the community. these are issues as waity as the ones i deal with every day trying to put people to work. personally, i volunteer to teach a life skill class at the city build academy on evans. i love to do it. provide skill and hope for the faces that i see there, but it also pains me because at the end, they all come up and ask me for jobs that i don't have for them. additionally, for 20 years, i have been a board member of the pacific vision foundation. it pains me to hear the dreamonizing of cpmc when it comes to charity care. we support the l

unions. but if they lose and walker is recalled, a big boost for the state and local workers unions.ancial impact because part of the walker reforms said that workers can choose on their own whether to pay union dice or -- dues or not, rather than have them automatically deducted and if that catches on, that will really limit the power of the unions to bolster the democratic party. right now, a majority of the workers of the unionized workers in america are public employees, 40% of state local workers belong to unions. only 7% in the private sector belongs. so this is like the air traffic controller strike, where reagan faced down the private-sector unions. it is an absolutely crucial race for both sides. >> greta: you say that if he wins by -- if governor walker wins, that's a precursor for what will happen with the wisconsin come november. i guess i am suspicious that if he wins by 2 points, that it will energize the democrats and be within reach and they will really crank it up and work really hard between june 5 and the election. i think in order for him to tell the democrats tha

the board board voted to move forward with a company that is something that local union members opposed. union workers protested and demanded more jobs be kept in the u.s., staff recommend the deal by transit competition, 66% of every car will be built with u.s. parts and pledged to keep 95% of the company domestic. and some board members wanted to delay the vote and have companies resubmit proposals. that motion didn't pass. the vote to move forward was unanimous, some are still concerned with the plan. >> i hate the fact folks in the bay area whose tax dollars we're spending on the cars are going to get cars but no benefit from it. and we'll need to figure that out long before today. >> this process was done correctly. and every sense of the word and we want to make sure we get started immediately. >> the deal is that they'll allow them to build 410 new cars that will be in service within the next eight years. >> and give brown called state budget a quote, screwed up incredible mess. signing petitions for a tax initiative he said will help fix it. the governor's plan helping fund scho

the transit workers union, the two larger locals are already eyeing contract, pending -- are already in contract, pending the first year of a three-year contract. about half of the agency was in open contracts. we estimated concessions on the order of about $14.5 million. but as i will mention later, it did not come to fruition based on how negotiations have turned out. what i am most excited about with this project is despite the fiscal climate and despite the challenges we have, we were able to incorporate a significant investment in the system as part of this budget. and already spoke to this to some extent, so i will not go through it again except to say that we're proposing to fund spending on the order of over 100 maintenance positions to get back to that kind of bread and butter needs, primarily in muni, but also some on the traffic operations side to catch up on and provide a higher level of maintenance that will in turn provide a higher level of reliability. supervisor wiener mention funds for tep. we are in environmental review which concludes next summer. with these funds,
