the sewer system improvement program update. karen kubick. >> okay. if i can get the slides up, please. good afternoon, karen kubick, i'm the director of the capital improvement program and i'm here for the update. to move to the agenda, it's a program status update and i'm going to talk about where we are with our eip's, the condition assessment work and climate change, and give you some updates in our projects that's in planning and design phase and an update on stakeholder engagement and work force development. so the projects are shown here, they're program wide status schedule. we have 33 projects in design phase and two projects that's in construction. these projects are being executed in accordance with the level of service that were developed in collaboration with the commission and endorsed. we're using triple bottom line, particularly on the green project to help us narrow down alternatives so we can have one single alternative. we're beginning to date that test that on treatment plant projects. we've been using it on iep and collection syst

we actually did an update, a seminar update on the code, and i asked people to raise their hands who has worked on mod projects? we had about 30 people in the room and more than half of the room raised their hands. it was kind of exciting. so one of our main things is san francisco general hospital. we have been working on this since 2006. very difficult, complex place to do work. our main issue here is that we have to keep it open. we cannot remove things from service, because it is such a dynamic, busy hospital. not only the emergency care and the beds, but the clinics, the training that happens with the uc staff. so we have to be very surgical and precise when we go in to do any sort of rehab. as you can see, we are spending $9.5 million just in the main hospital building itself. we have accomplished a lot in the last several years, but whatever we're doing is intended to be usable in the future, when the clinics migrate over from other buildings and other locations because the biggest concentration of clinical services for the city. 28 toilets. i am the king of toilets. my next topic is a quick update on elevators. last month in my directors report i talked about the on going issue of elevator maintenance andel elevator failures make it difficult. this has been an issue that has been identified by this council as well as advocates especially senior and disability action. under supervisor kim's leadership, the land use and economic development committee held a hearing on elevator and disability access in single occupancy hotels, their investigation by the department of building inspection and health department and by me and also the disability action. what came out of this hearing was a commitment to the city's budget propose by supervisor kim and supported by our mayor to set aside $250,000 for revolving loan fund and this fund will be available to sro property owners that can take out a loan, fix their elevator and payoff the loan and tap that fund. this is a very important first step to address the needs on the private side on privately owned buildings and this is in conjunction with the mayor

and as you requested supervisor, breed, i would like to provide you an update on some issues that we have discussed at prior gal meetings related to audit recommendations. and in april, i presented two contested recommendations from our audit of the puc's job order contract, program which asked the department to have personnel, outside of the program, review invoices and maintain the proper segregation of duties nancy from the sfpuc indicated that she will work closely with the program staff and cfa to insure that the puc implements an acceptable solution. since then, puc and cfa, reached an agreement, and we now consider the two recommendations closed. and so we are pleased with but what they have brought forward and in february, i presented two contestant recommendations from the audit of the department of public health and the administration of the 2.2 million dollar, contract with kci, usa incorporated and those recommendations asked dph to implement an over all contract monitoring system which they have reported that they did not have adequate resource to do. and (inaudible) fro

so have these tools been updated which means that they're under active development and they didn't get there by accident they're being actively maintained an improved you know car to i os devices encrypted by default now. no and that's one of the things that you have to understand about how this works is dead one of the problems with this particular sort of thing is it bypasses encrypt ssion that you would otherwise think is there most people think if they put a password or a pass code on their phone that that encrypts the phone that's not true all that goes is lost the screen so that you have to put in some kind of a code in order to access it to actually encrypt the device you have to go a step further but the problem with this kind of a tool is that it bypasses even that encryption because when the phone is running it has to have access to the key in order to be able to read the data in order to make it work so if you have a tool like this that's running in the background all the time it has access to data that would normally be locked even if the unit was encrypted. that was karl d
