"eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan is live at city hall to break it all down for us, cleve? >> reporter: jim, the situation for atlantic city finances is kind of like a ship that is singing, and today they got a new bucket so they could keep bail out a little while longer. what i am talking about is over $240 million worth of debt and today they got some of their tax payment received so they decide that they would spend some of that, in paying down a little bit of that debt. about $1.8 million. now, the decision is casino of tough, because they have to prioritize, do they want to pay police officers, firemen, all of the city employees, and maybe not make that payment. because nobody on wall street will go hungry. but it was very important for them to continue to make these payments, so that it shows that the city was still viable going forward. and all of this comes as they're waiting for the state to come in and help them with some money and some restructuring of their debt. now, the mayor of atlantic sit had i a lot of things to say about all of the politics going on between them and trenton, but when it comes down t

i know what happened to atlantic city and i remember when these things happened. he promised he wouldn't use junk bonds to finance the casinos and made these promises how wonderful things would be and then he turned around and guess what he did? he used junk bonds to finance at a 14% interest rate and it went under in spectacular fashion and he did this four times where he promises one thing, he says i'm going to be the best deal, best casino ever and then he makes mistakes. his whole campaign is based on i'm the best deal maker. i know how to negotiate. yet you can show in his business record where it's failed and there are human costs to it. this is what happened when donald trump promised this. or he negotiated that. this is how it hurt me. they haven't been able to grab that message. hillary clinton is not the best messenger. >> that's the difference. i would much rather support a businessman who was enthusiastic than saying if i do junk bonds it will fail and everyone will be out of a job. i have to respect the fact that he went to every step he could to try to make that casino success.
