only 60 percent access va care. i went in and told the doctors, these were my issues from my time in service and they basically went on to verify whether they were legitimate or not after going through about a process of a year with multiple appointments and doctors, i received my first rating and after that i started receiving compensation. i thought because i was fairly young, only 22-23 that was good enough in seeking services and benefits. however there were many underlying issues and i did not seek treatment for a number of them. i did seek to continue my education and most people did not know what was going on. i took 22 units in a semester in college and maintained employment at the university in humboldt state and ran a program for veterans on the side. after graduating december 2011, i struggled finding employment even though i was a community organizer in a rural area and performed a lot of different activities, i always got categorized because i was a former infantry man. they told me you are pretty good

>> following that scandal over wait times the va set a goal of 30 days or less for veterans to get their initial appointment to be seen by a primary carer. here's how regional hospitals are doing. that goal is being met at va hospitals in philadelphia and coatesville. in wilmington, they have some work to do here. the average is much higher, 66 days. wait times for specialty care. the highest in this case is at the philadelphia va where they're waiting 55 days for an appointment there for specialty care and 36 days in wilmington and 29 in coatesville. veterans are waiting for months and months to get a response on their disability claims. according to pennsylvania senator bob casey, pennsylvania has one of the longest wait times in the country. 266 days for a response. he addressed this problem before veterans group in west philadelphia yesterday and said more needs to be done to fix the backlog. >> we do this not just to make a system work better, we do this to fulfill, to fulfill a promise that this government that our country has made to our veterans. >> now, senator casey is sponsoring a bill to address that backlog. it calls on re
