. >>> topping our news vallejo police are warning people to be extra careful after they use the atm. alex savidge is joining us now. alex. >> reporter: good morning. none of them closed out their atm transactions. that allowed thieves to move in afterward and steal money. this same scenario is played out three different times. the latest crime was yesterday here at this bank of america where we are this morning that is on sonoma boulevard. and in this situation things actually turned violent. police say this woman was taking out money here at one of the atm's about 2:30 in the afternoon. the woman started to walk away and saw that man move over to the atm she had been moves the victim realized she hadn't closed out her transaction and she went over and tried to stop the man. >> on the 3400 block of sonoma boulevard at the bank of america a woman's atm transaction was interrupted and basically what we believe was an attempt to rob her of her funds. >> reporter: and police say in this case the man grabbed that woman by the neck and pinned her against the wall as he took out cash from h

police in vallejo trying to stop a recent surge in violence however the city council is considering a pay cut for police officers. alex savidge is joining us live with a preview of a very important meeting set for tonight. alex. >> reporter: the city council will hold that special meeting tonight and they will discuss a possible cut to both pay and benefits for current and retired police officers. the vallejo police union is pushing back on this. they say this move would decimate an already under staffed department by driving out qualified officers. now the union took out a full page newspaper ad this weekend urging people to attend tonight's council meeting and voice opposition is to the proposed new contract. it would be the first post bankruptcy contract for vallejo officers and force them to pay 25% more for health care and also impose a 5% pay cut. this plan comes as the department grapples with what amounts to a crime wave here. there have been four murders in a week in vallejo and some innocent bystanders have been left dead. >> reporter: bang bang i went to school with her. >>

we're also following deadly violence last night in vallejo. police are out there searching for the shooters in two separate killings. ktvu's claudine wong talked to police. you are back now with details on the investigation. claudine? >> reporter: well, two investigations are underway in these latest shootings as they search for the people responsible. we gotta tell you they say resources are stretched pretty thin. the vallejo police department five detectives and one sergeant who are assigned to all of these cases. it doesn't just include homicide. but when you take a look at just the numbers of homicides, we are seeing more than we have in several years. let's take you through the recent shootings and what we know about what happened. the first one happened yesterday about 3:40 in the afternoon. there was a shooting outside of the kings supermarket on fairgrounds drive. police found there, found a man in his 20s suffering from gunshot wounds. he was pronounced dead at the scene. you can see from the video a large crowd had also formed and that crow

so far, vallejo police have not returned our calls for more information. this is vallejo's fourth homicide in less than two weeks and its 25th this year. >>> continuing coverage now of the bay area cold snap. frigid temperatures contributed to delays at san jose airport. equipment used to deice planes at terminal a malfunctioned this morning. it affected 8 flights and led to delays up to two hours. another machine was brought in to deice the plane. while it warmed up a few degrees today, parts of the bay area are going to be another under freeze warning tonight. motorists are being warned to be careful of icy roads from the freezing temperatures. this morning black ice was reported on the doren memorial bridge along i-280 in san mateo county. the trucks poured sand on the roadway to create tracks for vehicles driving on the slippery road. black ice was reported on 280 near hillsboro where four vehicles were involved in an accident. >>> for the third straight night, air quality officials issued a spare the air alert for the bay area, meaning all wood-burning
