let's get the latest on this and more from nbc's vaughn hillyard. blayne alexander is standing by in atlanta where we're expecting developments in the georgia election probe. vaughn, tell us more about why the special counsel is asking for this protective order and how trump world is reacting. >> they submitted the file on friday. in the filing they made it clear they're looking for this protective order which would very specifically prohibit the former president from revealing evidence obtained through the discovery process, this during a criminal proceeding is when the department of justice turns over the evidence it has gathered that it plans and intends to present during these criminal proceedings and gives it to the defense counsel. the concern from the department of justice is that donald trump has not only shown a keenness to revealing evidence, but also to putting pressure on potential witnesses. mike pence was one of those this weekend in which he called his former vice president delusional. of course, mike pence may be one of the witnesses

nbc's vaughn hillyard has that part of our coverage. vaughn. >> reporter: chris, that's right. all 19 defendants here in fulton county have now formally surrendered and gone through the booking process. literally defendant number 19 met the deadline of just 90 minutes ago in that last hour, steven lee, he's an illinois pastor, part of the alleged scheme to put pressure on fulton county worker ruby freeman to falsely admit to voter fraud that she did not actually engage in. she turned himself in and posted bond. 18 of the 19 defendants posted bond and are out of jail. one of them, harrison floyd, he is still in jail here as we speak. he has yet to put up bond. for each of these defendants, it's very much finding their own paths forward. we have already seen multiple motions filed on behalf of these defendants. mark meadows has a hearing in front of a federal judge scheduled for this upcoming monday, to move his trial from the state court to the federal court. four others have made such a similar request but we're already seeing here, these defendants with differing interests fro

legal analyst lisa rubin from outside the fulton county courthouse, from the jailhouse, nbc's vaughn hillyard, who is following the trump campaign for us. and former u.s. attorney and msnbc legal analyst, barbara mcquade. the clock has officially run out in atlanta for the defendants to turn themselves in after what has been, and i think this is an understatement, a whirlwind week. what's the latest from there? >> well, chris you know that all 19 defendants have now been booked and released. the latest being steven lee who spoke to our gabe gutierrez with his attorney after his release. steven lee told our folks that the reason that he was the last to post bond is he had trouble raising the money which has been a continuous theme this week. only harrison floyd remains in custody. he is entitled to a first appearance in the next 72 hours or 72 hours from his arrest, and then of course on monday, we're going to see twin hearings of major consequence to the when and where the election interference cases against donald trump are tried. one hearing here in fulton county, georgia, and federal court

joining me now nbc vaughn hillyard and former republican congressman david jolly.ublican voters. it is certainly desantis' issue and led to the curriculum changes and everything else we've talked about. is that really what people care about? >> i think ron desantis is really the only case study of having a successful political win. that was in his re-election bid for governor last year. outside of that, we haven't seen republican candidates windy sigh sive victories on the idea of wokeness. when you look at the new "new york times" siena college poll, when republicans were asked which candidate would you prefer, defeating woke policy in our schools versus a candidate focusing on law and order in the streets and our border, 65% said law and order. the other hard part for the likes of ron desantis and vivek ramaswamy, their idea of defeating radicalwokeism, i haven't talked to a single republican voter that donald trump is -- he created the idea of the 1776 commission to rebuke and shut down the 1619 project by "the new york times." this is a man who by all accounts

nbc's vaughn hillyard is tracking it. so what's the latest? >> we are waiting for trump's defense counsel to put forward their own filing. it's important to note they had initially asked for an extension of time over the weekend, but the judge denied their motion, and so 5:00 p.m. is this deadline. let's be clear, this is not a gag order the department of justice is seeking which would mean that donald trump would not be able to talk about the case, essentially at all. what they are seeking is a protective order, which would prevent him from publicly disseminating or talking about the evidence that is gained by the department of justice turning over evidence as part of the discovery process to his defense counsel. this is done in a criminal proceeding so that the defendants, the legal team is able to build their defense case and that they know what the prosecution has on their side. i want to let you look at two social media posts from donald trump here, though. over just these last hours because he has taken on the department of justice head

. >> here is vaughn hillyard and karol lam. >> vaughn, a lot to sort through and prosecutors first requestedon friday, right, there was a lot of back and forth that has taken place since then, walk us through it. >> a filing that was present bid the department of justice, the prosecutors bringing this case against donald trump. what prosecutors are contending if donald trump if he were to secure the evidence they're turning over to his legal counsel as part of what's called the discovery process that he would share that information that's supposed to be private and only used for the purposes of t criminal trial and that's where this protective order is attempted to be had by the department of justice, now we're waiting a 5:00 p.m. deadline just two hours from now in which we expect donald trump's legal counsel to file a response to push back on that. donald trump has pushed back on this effort on having this protective order against him impeding his first amendment rights. it's important to note that for donald trump he already has a protective order case in the classified documents case. >>

vaughn hillyard reporting from he says he is embracing it. this is what the campaign is about. to look at that picture -- what in your view, having worked for him, what does trump want? >> well, trump wants exactly what he is getting right now. again, it's so astounding to me that his own opponents that should be taking advantage of this moment to paint him as unqualified, which some are doing like chris christie, but by and large the rest of donald trump's opponents who should be condemning are boot licking and blowing kisses at him. some of these -- i mentioned the last time i was on your show, some are gop officials who in 2016 said, donald trump was dangerous because he would incite violence. now they enable him as he incites violence. they make excuses for him. they beg people to sand by the notion that he should be pardoned and forgiven ahead of even being convicted. there was one person on the debate stage last night -- it was mike pence who essentially said, we need to wait and see what happens and see if a convicted person shows contrition. that's what happens in the p

heard from giuliani and that clique was a bunch of mumbo jumbo that didn't mean anything and vaughn hillyard was right, judge howell and the district of columbia confirmed that, today. what she said was, rudy giuliani failed to comply with his discovery obligations, to turn over information to miss freeman and to her daughter miss moss, who are suing for defamation and other claims. so, the judge entered a default judgment against giuliani, finding that the plaintiffs are entitled to recover on their claims. the only issue that is left and out is the amount of damages that giuliani will have to pay. as the coup de grÂce on the way out the door, judge powell said, and by the way, i am ordering for you to pay the plaintiffs legal fees. so look, nothing will refer to miss moss and miss freeman the damage that was done to them, the years of their lives that they lost. but they will at least receive some compensation and maybe a little bit more. the knowledge that rudy giuliani tried so hard to turn them into something that they were not, and he has been exposed and held accountable for doing tha
